Was the Copenhagen Global Warming Summit Walk-Out a Win for the U.S.?

1) Lack Of Personal Responsibility: As a society, we encourage a "victimhood mentality" and an overweening government that never met an issue it didn't want to dive into with both feet; so we shouldn't be surprised that so many Americans expect to be rewarded for failure.

*** Special Offer ***

If GM fails, we've got to step in and keep it afloat. If people snuck into this country illegally, we can't be so hardhearted as to obey the law and deport them! If you bought a house you couldn't afford, you shouldn't be penalized for that when the market takes a bad turn. If you bought a blender, tried to start it in your bathtub, and were nearly electrocuted -- that's not your fault! The manufacturers should have put a warning sticker on it.

We're descended from pioneer stock. Our ancestors explored, conquered, and tamed a continent. They couldn't rely on the police to show up if an Indian raiding party showed up at their isolated cabin at 3 AM. There was no school lunch program on the Oregon Trail. If your buggy whip company was going out of business because of those new fangled auto-mo-biles, you didn't get 20 billion dollars in taxpayer money so you could open up a new branch in China, you went out of business. If our ancestors were alive, they would sneer in disdain at what a nation full of whining babies their descendants have become.

2) Short Attention Spans: Perhaps because of the internet, the stunning variety of news sources, or the complexity of modern society, we've become much less able as a people to follow logical arguments and deal with complex messages.

This has bled over into Congress where they write legislation dealing with issues they don't truly understand. That legislation is voted on by legislators who admit that they haven’t read it and it affects the lives of millions of people who were unaware that such legislation was even being contemplated.

The problem with this is that there are many issues in life that are too knotty to be broken down into a soundbite or a 30 second commercial. Those affairs require more extensive knowledge and deeper thought and consideration than can be placed on a bumper sticker or weaved into a music video. When we lose sight of that fact, utter disasters that have been in plain sight all along for anyone with an attention span longer than five minutes can blindside much of the population.

3) Excessive Self-Esteem: Perhaps because we've spent decades trying to pump up the self-esteem of children in our public schools, irregardless of whether they've done anything to merit it, we have legions of people in our society who have an excessive level of confidence in their beliefs and abilities.

They're just so darn sure that what they believe is right just by virtue of the fact they believe it. Traditions? Codes of conduct? Religious beliefs? Customs? There's no need to even understand why previous generations believed what they did or to question what purpose it served. Just remember that they were racist back then and so they couldn't have had any good ideas.

Of course, we don't look back and say, "Gee? How did they make it without welfare, social security, or an income tax? Why is it that they had a divorce rate that was a fraction of the one we had today? How is it that the crime rate was so much lower? What made the people so much more polite than they are today? If we were in the same situation as the Founding Fathers, could our political leaders step up to the plate and do as well?"

Because we have forgotten the mistakes that convinced our forefathers to adopt the policies and mores that they did, in our ignorance we will be doomed to make many of those same mistakes again.

4) Short Term Thinking/Instant Gratification: Thomas Sowell once said that killing the goose that laid the golden egg can be a viable election strategy as long as it doesn't die until you're out of office and no one finds your prints on the murder weapon.

That is played out in American politics on a daily basis where few politicians think farther ahead than the next election. Time and time again, we have politicians advocating policies that either bring immediate benefits or avoid short-term pain, but are extremely harmful to the country over the long-term.

That is primarily how government has gotten so out of control. A problem occurs. In an effort to get re-elected, politicians rush to create a program to "fix" it. Ten years later, the original problem may or may not have been solved, but the program put in place to “fix” it has caused new issues and costs five times more than it did when it was originally put into place. However, if anyone suggests we get rid of it, there are howls of outrage. Hence, government never shrinks and bad programs almost never die.

Meanwhile, large festering problems like Social Security and Medicare are studiously ignored for as long as possible because we don't react until there's a crisis. Only after the horrific events of 9/11 did we start taking terrorism seriously. It took a bridge falling down to get Congress interested in poorly maintained structures nationwide. The whole economy had to crash to get Congress to become alarmed about quasi-governmental agencies handing out loans to people who couldn't pay them back.

Incidentally, we've already started going backwards on all of these same problems. The new President shows minimal concern about terrorism, nobody is talking about bridges anymore, and Congress has already started encouraging more bad housing loans. That's because the moment a story drops from the day's news cycle, it goes down the memory hole for most people. That is no way to run a nation.

5) Immorality: The default mode of Hollywood is hedonism and we've been told again and again, at least since the Clinton years, that character doesn't matter for our elected officials.

The problem with this is that character does matter -- quite a bit, actually.

Our leaders are corrupt to the core -- and that's not just the ones who are in violation of our laws, which have been crafted in order to allow staggering amounts of corruption to be done legally. The families of politicians are given plum jobs and paid ridiculous sums of money in order to gain influence with legislators. Government earmarks that aid campaign contributors or family members of Congress are common. Chrysler has even been handed over to Barack Obama's union allies in broad daylight. Ethics have become the very last consideration for our government and perhaps it's no surprise given the state of our society.

Civility is dead and buried. We have people protesting funerals and the private residences of citizens. There are perverted gay parades in the streets of San Francisco. The most grotesque, blasphemous, and offensive material imaginable is regularly displayed on the internet and TV and we are drenched in sex from the time we get up until the time we go to bed.

As a replacement for actual human decency and morality, we've turned to political correctness and bloodless legalisms, neither of which is an adequate replacement for doing the right thing because it's principled or virtuous.

The corrosive effects of this decline are seen not just in our government, but all throughout our society in the size of our prison population, the number of unmarried women having children, drug use, school shootings, and even our staggering abortion rate.

Well said, John
The real question is, "what so we do about it?" Common sense has taken a holiday in today's pc world. We must come back to the light, and punish those that keep us in the dark. It starts at the ballot box.

"irregardless" ???

Words have meanings. Come on...

"irregardless:???
seriously, you read an article like this and that is all you can come up with?

Larry, Michal
While "irregardless" jumped out at me, I chose to ignore it because, overall, John Hawkins's article accurately describes what is ruining our great country. I'd like to smack some
Republicans "upside their heads" who haven't had the guts to stand up to the liberal, socialist-minded Democrats.

The short-sighted liberal populace also contribute to our downfall and they are too stupid to see beyond their selfish desires.

Irregardless
leaped off the page and brought the image of my grammar loving wife to mind.

"Irregardless" of that, i enjoyed the rest of the article and thought it was spot on.

Irregardless...

...of the fact that it is non-standard usage, the word has been in the American lexicon since the early 20th century. It is a real word and its meaning is spelled out in most dictionaries.

Now, does anyone have any comments on the article itself?

Liberals Always Invest in Failure

Liberal inability to comprehend that Government bureaucracy as compared to the 'Free Market' is extremely costly.

Every citizen in America has been exposed at some point in their lives to Government inefficiency, whether at the drivers license bureau, dealing with the IRS or trying to make sense of property or school taxes.

Liberals believe this same Government bureaucracy can 'Save and Protect' American industry, that has shown poor judgment and made poor decisions from failing.

Liberal logic always determines that 'Investing in Failure', whether it is a business or a citizen (or illegal immigrant) always trumps investing in success.

America was once the 'Land of Opportuni

Where an American Citizen could be 'Successful' by self determination, hard work, good decisions and personal responsibility.

America is NOW the 'Land of Irresponsibility'.

Where an American Citizen can only be 'Successful' by being part of a 'Collective', working the system, using race, gender, sexual preference etc, to determine 'Collective Benefits' by NOT working, bad decisions and personal irresponsibility.

Barack Obama believes the 'Success' of his administration, will be spreading 'Irresponsibility' throughout America.

Problems / Solutions
While I agree with Mr. Hawkins about our character flaws as a nation, I am struck by the lack of solutions.

How do we, as a nation, go about combating these issues? I would think that a follow up column with proposed solutions would spark great debate.

Regards

Instantant Gratificaton
Is not limited to politicians. Businesss and its focus on the quarterly profits have contributed to the down fall of our economy. Nobody is looking out for what is good for the long term of the company, its shareholders, its employees or the country. How does this decision impact my quarterly profit? Not to mention the loss of productivity due to the need to constantly evaluate and calaculate the quarterly profit.

The investors too are only concerned about their profit this quarter.

Attention Span or Bad Logic?

It is impossible to actually debate a Liberal.

Debates revolve around facts, logic and reason and subjective perspectives based on the aforementioned.

Liberals use feelings as facts or subjective perspectives as facts.

One must also educate a Liberal on what is being discussed, before any discourse can begin.

Further, Liberals suffer from 'dyslexic logic' and 'myopic reason'.

'dyslexic logic' is simply that all facts are seen 'mirrored' or 'reversed' becoming unintelligible and 'myopic reason' is so narrowed by ideology that liberals become intellectual Mr. Magoos.

Liberals will usually 'Consider' both sides of an issue and then settle on diametrically opposed views as reality.

Example: Barack Obama believes abortion is a 'Right' and that 'Right' should NOT be impinged upon.

NOTE to Liberals, impinge means to encroach or infringe on the rights of others in this context.

Barack Obama then states he wants to 'REDUCE' abortions.

This is a typical example of 'Cognitive Dissonance', the foundation of most Liberal "Thinking".

Add "Gullibility" to the List
Stunned: Sure, the ballot box is the answer, but Americans tend to second-guess their better judgments and vote with the liberals on election day. Look at the Bill Russel and Tedisco defeats. Both had huge leads in the beginning, but once the left's propaganda machine started roaring, the electorate submitted to the tabloid mentality.

MNDuck

MNDuck asks, "How do we, as a nation, go about combating these issues? I would think that a follow up column with proposed solutions would spark great debate."

Start by doing these three things.

First, NEVER EVER vote for the same politician twice, no matter what the office. Until we let these clowns know that they work for us and not themselves, nothing will change.

Let your one-term politicians know that their special interest is their constituency and their country, not the unions, lobbyists and special interest groups.

Third, get the damned unions out of the government - all of them.

Feel free to add to the list.

While we're compiling lists...

6. We provide lousy education for ourselves and for our children. The union managed and government funded education system that we have is wrong headed as hell, and I hope we are all able to see and understand that by now.

Our children aren't taught U.S. History any more - now it's called Social Studies. What is THAT all about?

We and our children surely don't know or understand our nation's history or laws any more, including the constitutional limits imposed on government and the protected rights we, the citizens, have saved for us.

And today we have a government that makes and breaks its own laws. (Pssst, that's called tyranny, folks)

As Judge Andrew Napolitano states in his book 'Constitutional Chaos,' "... the positives are carrying the day. Under their way, the government violates the law while busily passing more legislation to abridge our liberties."

Ain't that the truth folks? Can't we all look back at our younger years when we were allowed to do things that we just don't or can't allow our kids do today? Have we passed along freedom to our children or have we corralled them into slavery? Will our children be allowed to succeed as we were able, or will they be controlled and kept in slavery by government regulation and control?

All of our freedoms are important for our continued existence as an independent nation. If we continue to allow this attempt as the greatest republic on God's green earth to flounder as it is floundering now, we will lose it all.

And we will become known as "The Late Great USA" Ooops, that's the name of another good book by Jerome Corsi. There are so many good books out there to read right now, and they all help us understand more about what is going on and what we can do to help correct our nation's problems.

Verita vos Liberabit!

Learn and teach the truth - then go forth and prosper. It's the American way.

Bob
You have presented some solutions that we can do collectively as a group to make the country better.

I guess I was looking for things that we could do to improve ourselves and work on these character flaws as individuals. I believe, therefore, by improving ourselves, our nation will improve as a whole.

Maybe we just lack the character to think we need to improve ourselves.

Kind Regards

Society of Depravity or Greatness?

There are two major perspectives that humans hold when it comes to 'Empathy'.

1) The transformation of Society, to match the Depravity of Humans.

2) The transformation of Society, to match the standards that have produced Greatness in Humans.

Many humans hold the view that their morals and emotional nature should be accepted by other humans and their self-esteem, morals, values and personal identity is based on that acceptance.

Many humans believe that they must measure their morals and emotional nature against certain societal standards that have proven in history, to bring about their self-esteem, morals, values and personal identity to an acceptable level.

Diversity is nothing more than a 'Code Word' that implies - there is NO standards - there is NO moral codes - there is NO right and wrong - the world must accept everyone as they are.

The notion that a particular race or gender will bring about a 'Correct Perspective' on the way the world should be, is nothing more than the doctrine of "Innate Ideas".

That morals and emotional nature exist from birth, by belonging to a particular race or gender is the determining factor in an individuals morals amd emotional nature - this thinking has been thoroughly refuted by philosophy and science.

The notion that the personal experience of an individual brings 'Empathy' to those who have had similar experiences in life, trumps the Constitution and Bill of Rights which has brought about the greatest Society in humankind - is pure and utter nonsense.

Highlander Juan
Not sure how old you are, but this gal had 'Social Studies' when she was in school lo these many moons past (class of '77), though the term was confined to elementary and junior high. I particularly remember my ninth grade history teacher, an elderly Mr Bailey: we had to learn the names of all the counties in Colorado, and their seats, as part of the history of our state. That was the last rigorous teaching, at least about Colorado, that I remember receiving on the subject.

Hollywood condoned LIBERAL LIES!
Mr. Howkins is RIGHT-on since we have accepted the LIBERAL LIES of the Democratic Party, research shows how many social ills are directly linked to immoral behavioral choices !
PLEASE share the following letter:
Dear President and MRs. Obama:

Why would you tolerate these SAD statistics:

Blacks account for 12-13% of the U.S. population--yet they have higher numbers as a percentage of their race in all of the following social ills:
POVERTY-The #1 group trapped in poverty are single female -headed
households--NO marriage--sadly, blacks have a 70% out--of-wedlock birth rate--THUS more will be trapped in poverty! Time Magazine recently had the statistic that we spend $500 billion on poverty-related programs.
STD's --Blacks have higher numbers of ALL STD's -not just HIV/AIDS.
CRIME--We know that black youth engage in higher rates of criminal behavior and on
more black victims--we also know that 70% of the men in prison came from
homes with NO fathers--NO marriage.
ABORTION--We know that since 1973-Roe v. Wade that 50 million unborn babies
have been KILLED in legal abortion--BUT 1/3rd of those-15 million were black!
ALL pro-choice citizens --PLEASE go to http://www.abortionno.org and view the IMMORAL reality--how can any sane person support this atrocity?

We also now have evidence of emotional HARM from casual hook-up sex, Dr. Miriam Grossman , author of "Unprotected" and Dr. Joe McIlhaney, author of "Hooked", they show how casual sex negatively affects our youth because of hormonal interactions leave youth with higher rates of depression and suicide.

Now for the solution--conservatives have funded and want to expand abstinence until MARRIAGE funding so that ALL youth will understand the consequences of that behavior -teach them how to exercise self-control to avoid all of these negative consequences.

American History in High School
My kids had to learn, in order, all of the American Presidents and their parties in 9th grade history class. They graduated in the 90's. They spent one whole 9 week grading period studying our founding fathers and the birth of our nation, so not all are being indoctrinated. And ours is a public school system.

My grandson, in the third grade, has so far, not had any of the global warming science shoved down his throat.

The current history teacher at our high school is an Army reservist. I sighed a little breath of relief when I learned that.

The country has gone downhill since the
60's as a result of the gov't getting involved with the schools.
The used integration not to help black children, but to put the liberal curriculum into the schools.

All kids are born uncivilized, it is our job as parents to produce good citizens, bad parenting was in some cases overcome by the schools, the worse the schools are the more bad citizens are produced and they vote for more goodies for themselves and down we go another notch.

Instead of people learning to look UP to those who became successful and emulate what made them successful, they are now taught to demonize them and suck from the public teat and tax their success away.

This country has never been this divided and the great unifier has made it much worse, for his own agenda.

The framers would be appalled to see how liberals have sullied what they gave us.

All of these points are correct
This column will be made available to the kids I work with and a stack left in the teacher's room. Most, if not all, of my colleagues will agree with every word because we talk daily about these very attributes eating away at the community and student body. Most vote liberal democrat and have yet to see the connection between that behavior and the social mess that is increasing as liberalism does. Columns like this are very helpful in the reeducation of the well-meaning but misinformed.

Another thing is
Appetites have become rights. Rights have become entitlements. Entitlements are for others to calmly provide or be pillaged. It's the spirit of Idi Amin.

So, Hawkins being bloodless
disappoints you? Killing will do your soul better?

Good for you Hawkins, go forth and murder. Create the mayhem your article can be interpreted to condone. Enjoy the hypocrisy of your list.

Rick
Your post is whiny, nonsensical , and responds to nothing in the article; only to some gritty assumed truth in your head that makes you feel morally superior. Ew.

OBAMA AND THE IMAGE OF AMERICA
Why is Obama so obsessed with criticizing America and improving its image in the world? Why has this become the centerpiece of his foreign policy, the soul and substance of the Obama Doctrine? For the answer click my name and read: Obamanization and the Image of America.

Going down the tubes
LOTS is wrong, of course. And the economic disaster that is on its way will really sting. As Doug Casey, renowned investor and government watcher has said, “The government has not only done the wrong things so far, it’s much worse. They’ve done precisely the opposite of the right things. And there’s no reason to believe they’re going to suddenly become rational. By artificially depressing interest rates, and printing up boatloads up new paper money, the U.S. Government, and governments the world over, are guaranteeing an economic disaster for years to come.”

Get out of debt. Be responsible. Stock up on goods.

oldsocialworker, consider this
"As a replacement for actual human decency and morality, we've turned to political correctness and bloodless legalisms, neither of which is an adequate replacement for doing the right thing because it's principled or virtuous. "

Now, try not to consider me.

Will you kindly explain what the "right thing" is?

Do not presume to condescend to me. This "right thing" in context of the last parts before and after it show malice aforethought.

You also have the gall to suppose I'm being superior, when I do far less than Hawkins, or many writing here today.

My opinion, is that Hawkins foments malice, and he does not offer any solutions, save "right thing". What caused my response was his writing bloodless just before rejecting that as being part of his "right thing".

That, by any focus upon logic, can create an opinion that Hawkins condones murder.

What the USA was
I have met many legal and yes some illegal immigrants but one common theme ran through their comments to me. THEY CAME TO AMERICA SO THEY COULD HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO IMPROVE THEIR LIVE ON THEIR OWN MERITS. They were from around the world Europe, Africa, Middle east and Asia. Now they wonder why did they work so hard when our government and pols will give them what they desire without having to work. No taking responsibility for our own actions. We have elected a bunch of rich idiots.

AliveInHim CO Jun 2, 2009 - 7:06 AM EST

I'm a bit older than you, and I was raised in the east and educated in the government schools, but I do clearly remember my U.S. History class and my English class, and how much work was involved in maintaining good grades. And nothing was free - everything was built on your own efforts. No credit - you had to earn wages to have money. No owed class grades - you had to earn them.

I am now back in college, studying for another degree, ostensibly majoring in finance, but along the way I'm studying economics, U.S. History, and Political Science. This summer I have ten books I'm trying to have read by the end of August, most are history and/or constitutional topic books. I am determined to climb out of the ignorant dolt world and get back into the consciously competent world.

Something happened around 1937 that started our big swerve from our constitutional government to a progressive government. It seems from what I have learned so far that a major part of our problems have to do with the multinational bankers and financiers and their hugely negative impacts on national governments around the world, including our own.

We have a lot of work to do to recover our republic from the Marxists, and I want to help. I'm pretty good in IT and business matters, and now I need to learn or re-learn some basics about running our own country - something our lawless government elected officials have failed to do for us while we were happily living our prosperous lives in America. Boy, have we been asleep!

I really hope we can live through and survive this traumatic period in our nation's history. This is the worst time for our republic that I can recall.

As I said, we have a lot of work to do.

Rick MN Jun 2, 2009 - 7:55 AM EST

Rick, the 'right thing' is probably impossible to define, but it's like pornography - you recognize it when you see it.

Does that help?

Rick from MN

I certainly do not speak for Oldsocialworker - I do respect her and think her insights from the 'Trenches', are always cogent and truthful.

If she said to me, what she said to you - I would thoroughly examine myself.

She works trying to save as many children as possible and her knowledge is from the 'Heat of Battle' and NOT theoretical nonsense.

What to do?"
Stop going to see movies filled with liberal propaganda, stop watching tv shows filled with liberal propaganda.

Start writing letters to corporations on record as contributing to Planned Parenthood. Tell them you no longer buy/use their products or services until they withdraw contributions and support from all such organizations.

Start reading books like Basic Economics by Thomas Sowell so you cn recognize the fallacy of the socialist/statist "solutions" being foisted on us by our government.

Research for yourself subjects such as "Global Warming" to so you recognize how false most of the claims are about it and it's newest iteration --"Climate Change.

Start reading the U.S. Constitution.

Learn to recognize spin (both "left" and "right") and become a more informed citizen.

Do a little research and read for yourself what people like Margaret Sanger (founder of Planned Parenthood) wrote about "race" and the superiority of the white race (her contention, not mine).

Finally, be willing to stand up for the truth and go on record for it. Put a bumper sticker on your car such as the one that shows there have been 45,589,993 babies murdered in the war on the unborn since roe v. wade in 1973. Contrast that to 1,137,000 - the number of soldiers who gave their lives in defense of our country during the civil war, wwi, wwii, korean war, vietnam war and persian gulf war.

Facts are our weapons in stemming the descent into Statism that our country is on. Learn then, use them--with courtesy and respect--but use them. This is not easy, it is not fun, it does not "feel" good. But the alternative is unthinkable.

No problem with Oldsw - Retired.
I'm not giving her the what for.

I make a very logical case, I'm not whinning, I'm not lying, and there is a discussion here, for those who consider, thoughtfully, the fact of my opinion.

The fact is laid out in my previous post.

Highlander Juan et al

I applaud you in your pursuits!

We need more Patriots like you!

Never grow weary in doing good.

For approximately thirty years, I have set aside 4 hours per week to study subjects that I have little if any knowledge about. I have read books about everything from the 'Chinese Mafia' to the design and history of the 'Buffalo Nickel'.

It never fails to amaze me on just how little I know.

My personal 'Hobby' has been studying the way the human brain works and Artificial Intelligence with computers.

Fortunately, I have a personal friend who is a Medical Doctor, who has the same hobby - we enjoy our conversations and pursuits.

I suggest you add Paul Krugman to your list of economics facts.

Consider more than two in fact. There are so many schools of thought regarding economics.

Then if you've an actual question of statistics go to the Dept of Treasury web site to read them.

One question you might have is what effect tax cuts and raising taxes have on the adjusted gross income (AGI)of Americans.

When you see that Reagans first tax cut started an immense deficit, and he subsequently repealed nearly all of it, and then went on to raise taxes higher, you might conclude that its effect on the economy was neglibile. I think that.

What I found interesting was that AGI under Reagan and Bush time frame, compared to Clinton time frame shows a much higher AGI for Americans under Clinton.

That with raised taxes. Interesting.

Copletely agree, and I'd add a few
more:

6) The so called "non-judgmentalism", which allows any aberration pass unchallenged, out of fear of being of derrided as ----
7) The non-judgementalism's equally evil twin, the "open-mindedness" ---
8) "cultural relativism", whose institutionalization in schools and universities has removed any form of critical analysis in social (pardon the expression) sciences, and allows any other cultural or civilizational arrangement to trump the heritage of this society which, hair in the nose and warts, is still the best social arrangement in the world ---
9) ... and more to add here...

Joel NV Jun 2, 2009 - 8:16 AM EST
Joel, regarding children's education, I agree completely with your comments.

Even when the 'overlords' deem it unlawful, all education starts in the home, and our children's education is our own responsibility - not the responsibility of the state.

The Department off Education needs to be disbanded. Immediately - if not sooner!

BTW, government officials are not really overlords - they are public servants. They work for us, and when they screw up, we have the option of forgiving (a Christian trait, I admit) or firing their sorry ar$es.

I think we have come to a time when we need to do more firing, rather than forgiving. They've really screwed up this time.

Really?!
"and allows any other cultural or civilizational arrangement to trump the heritage of this society "

You think American's allow other cultures to trump our own?

I don't want to take you out of context, so I'm asking for clarification.

Good writeup but...
One trait that is destroying our written communication skills:

IRREGARDLESS???? Please, get a dictionary.

Rick from MN

Your premise "Appears" to be based on the fallacy that 'Free Speech' is injurious to society.

That the 'Madness' of humanity is NOT individual decisions and actions, but rather caused by the words and actions of others.

Human Nature is such, that humans will look for anything and everything that has some semblance of agreement with their own thoughts and personally held opinions.

Dr George Tiller's murder is a prime example.

The notion that anyone who opposes 'Partial Birth Abortion', is somehow guilty by association in his murder.

Perhaps, some have a superior thinking process than others, but causality is a difficult pursuit.

"I can calculate the movement of the stars, but not the madness of men."

Retired Geek VA Jun 2, 2009 - 8:24 AM ES

Thanks for your comments. I'm supposed to be retired also, but have learned (to my joy) that retirement is just another job description.

Like you, I love learning and growing. It's the only way to live one's life. I've know people who actually stopped doing things when they retired. They die shortly thereafter. Sad.

I've traveled a bit internationally, and there is no place on Earth like America. We have the best life on Earth. I think that's what attracts the Marxists - they know a good thing when they see it.

Now, let's see... getting Obama and the Progressive blood sucking traitors out of office as soon as possible...

Step 1...

CHARACTER FLAWS
This has to be a great article: The most serious point is: Is anybody taking the time to listen and understand the coming consequences? Or are they taking the time to undermind the intent of the article?
That is the real question. The future results are out there for everyone to see.Just remember we are all in this together and the consequences felt by one will be felt by the others.NOBODY IS EXCLUDED!

Joel-De Oppresso Liber
Public Education

I know that I am unlikely to convince you that public education is important common good. BUt consider this every industrialized nation in the world provides a free public education. In fact so does most of the developing world today. Free public education is essential to upward mobility and it absence is the surest route to classware. People without children pay for those who have children and then those children become productive tax paying members of society who in turn help to fund programs like social security and medicare. It a generational thing. Of course, if you choose not to avail yourself of the public schools which inspite of all the criticism are in fact quite successful.

In most states school districts are run by elected Board of Education members. It is one of the most local of local government entities and those local Board make most decisions. The majority of the funding for public schools is local as well. There are 16,000 school districts in this country how grass roots can you get.

While there are many fine religious schools, one thing that they cannot provide to students is an opportunity to interact with people from different cultures and with different religious views.

Public schools prepare students to interact in world and in a nation populated with people from different cultures and backgrounds. One of the reasons that schools are expensive is bacause they serve all including those students with severe challenges and special needs. Back in the day before these kids had the right to an education they were often locked away in institutions in a kind of survival of the fittest model. Not my vision for this country.

Anybody Surprised?
It should surprise no one when Obama rewards failure. This blogger captures it best...http://theblacksphere.blogspot.com/2009/02/obamas-war-on-achievement.html And he rips Obama in a FUNNY way!

George Washington
Of all the dispositions and habits which lead to political prosperity, religion and morality are indispensable supports. In vain would that man claim the tribute of patriotism, who should labor to subvert these great pillars of human happiness, these firmest props of the duties of men and citizens. The mere politician, equally with the pious man, ought to respect and to cherish them. A volume could not trace all their connections with private and public felicity. Let it simply be asked: Where is the security for property, for reputation, for life, if the sense of religious obligation desert the oaths which are the instruments of investigation in courts of justice ? And let us with caution indulge the supposition that morality can be maintained without religion. Whatever may be conceded to the influence of refined education on minds of peculiar structure, reason and experience both forbid us to expect that national morality can prevail in exclusion of religious principle.

It is substantially true that virtue or morality is a necessary spring of popular government. The rule, indeed, extends with more or less force to every species of free government. Who that is a sincere friend to it can look with indifference upon attempts to shake the foundation of the fabric?

Can We Settle this?

Main Entry:
ir·re·gard·less Listen to the pronunciation of irregardless
Pronunciation:
\?ir-i-'gärd-l?s\
Function: adverb
Etymology: probably blend of irrespective and regardless
Date: circa 1912

nonstandard : regardless
usage Irregardless originated in dialectal American speech in the early 20th century. Its fairly widespread use in speech called it to the attention of usage commentators as early as 1927. The most frequently repeated remark about it is that “there is no such word.” There is such a word, however. It is still used primarily in speech, although it can be found from time to time in edited prose. Its reputation has not risen over the years, and it is still a long way from general acceptance. Use regardless instead.

John Adams
"Because power corrupts, society's demands for moral authority and character increase as the importance of the position increases."

"We have no government armed with power capable of contending with human passions unbridled by morality and religion . . . Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other."

Conservative Revisionist History
Here are some facts:

Nixon created the department of education
Dwight D. Eisenhower was on the executive board of planned parenthood.
Ronald Reagan deregulated the banks leading to the S and L scandal.
George W. Bush gutted the SEC and other leadings regulatory agencies and leadning to the worst banking crisis in our history.

Ronald Reagan who is the folk hero of conservatives raised the deficit, raise taxes in his later years, and formed a commission to save social security all things that can get you killed by conservatives today. If Reagan were running today he would be attacked as too liberal.

Bulls-eye
Wow. I would rate this article a 10 if I could. Dead on.

You can add to that golden parchutes, hand picked corporate boards, the revolving door between government and military contractors, no bid contracts, legislation written by corporate lawyers and then shopped around to some cash strapped and usually conservative house member.

Facts???
Facts??? What is the old saying that is true: There are statistics, darn statistics, and lies. I apply this to facts also: there are relevant facts, irrelevant facts, and lies. Too many people today use the latter two of these; delibertly or because of ignorance, stupidity, and brain-washing provided by our public schools, universities, and the "news media"!

Speaking of short attention spans, any possibility you could ever stay on topic, or are you just a Pavlovian bowwow, that no matter what the topic you run off at the mouth with some tiresome bit of anti-Republicanism. I'm sure you're sitting there with a little twitching bump in your shorts thinking you're all manly and provocative, but you're really nothing more than a little Chihuahua sitting there busily licking your anus.

Gimmie, Gimmie, Gimmie

Just another example of how Liberals are screwing up the country.

A Democratic Republic only works...
when the citizens of the Republic are engaged in industry, husbandry and thrift.

You have to be INVESTED in the system for it to work. If you provide nothing, then you should receive nothing.

It is a myth that ALL citizens and residents pay taxes. There are millions that do not, although they file paperwork, which is not the same as PAYING taxes.

Others believe themselves ABOVE the law and use various devices to cheat, and evade their civic responsibilities.

Marriage, establishing a homestead, taking stake in industry, are the normal rites and rights of adults.

"Getting it on," "bumming a ride," "crashing at someone's pad," "sponging," and other slang terms for immature behavior, are signs of immaturity and youth.

If you are immature, and cannot be held responsible and called to account for your actions, if there is "always" an excuse, then you are NOT FIT to vote, or exercise ANY of the rights of adults. Those individuals should therefore remain a "ward of the state" and kept occupied and out of the way of the real work of adults.

JMO51
You are wrong or exaggerating most of your "facts." Your a lib. Libs won't know the truth until the judgement day.

The Dept of Education was signed into law by Jimmah Carter.

Planned Parenthood was against abortion at it's conception (pun intended).

The S and L scandal was totally conflagrated by the Democrats in Congress and their insistence on giving sub-prime loans to those who couldn't afford them.

How in the hell can you say GWB gutted the SEC. The biggest deregulation of the SEC was in 1975 at the insistence of the Democrat Congress. OBTW, we'll always have a difference on what value regulatory agencies have.

Ronald Reagan had a cold war to fight and win. He helped stave of one of the greatest threats to world peace of all time.

You democrats, of all people, can't complain about a deficit until the person has been in office awhile, otherwise, BHO has screwed the pooch already. Of course, you'll blame GWB right through the entire BHO administration (4 years max).

Please state facts, not "facts."

A Nation’s Character Reposes…..

...in it’s female citizenry. In World War II the stoic behavior of British, German and Japanese women in the face of horrific suffering and privation allowed their societies to function and their nations to continue to exist. The courage of American women to leave the shelter of home and marriage to work in manufacturing gave the nation the comparative advantage that won the war. The courage and determination of these women set an example for men and if nothing else shamed them into doing their duty. Contrast this with the Sex in the City/Oprah enthralled Gen X, Y, & millennial women. Look like a linebacker, dress like a Bangkok streetwalker, speak and act like a merchant seamen on shore leave? No problem, hook up on the internet. Get pregnant and don’t have a reliable man? No problem, the state will step in and you can whine incessantly about being a single mom. Too lazy to go to school and develop the skill set needed to earn a living? No problem, dump the kids with Mom, serially shack up with who ever will have you and vote Democrat.

IRREGARDLESS
Irregardless is not an English word. Use irrespective or regardless in that context.

This article...
is the most unarguable piece of writing I have ever read. It is true to the core. I wonder how many people actually realize it is true to the core?

And as a note to how our government got to where it is today...we have full-time law-makers, what a ridiculous concept. Our founding fathers were part-time law-makers and put together and ran the most efficient nation in modern history.

JMO51
"You can add to that golden parchutes, hand picked corporate boards, the revolving door between government and military contractors, no bid contracts, legislation written by corporate lawyers and then shopped around to some cash strapped and usually conservative house member."

Why on Earth would you be worried about any of that?

Our nation is bankrupt. Our borders are being invaded on a daily basis. We have drug cartel wars now filtering across our borders. Our Education system is pitiful -- to put it nicely. We have no new sources of energy to sustain our ever-growing needs -- we instead have a "dream" of alternative energy. We now have nitwit politicians trying to manage the financial industry, the auto industry and are right around the corner from taking over the medical industry.

Our legal system is a complete and total mess and we're being strangled by our own laws -- which continue to mount on a daily basis. We've got a Social Security system that is such a mess and so far in debt -- there is no way it's ever going to be resolved. The State of California is almost completely underwater and soon to be followed by NY, NJ and Michigan. Our prisons are bursting at the seams and some areas are resorting to releasing prisoners back to the streets because they can't afford to keep the prisons running any longer.

I could go on and on but for the character limit of this post. But suffice it to say -- our entire country is falling apart and you are worried about "golden parachutes" and who is being hand-picked for corporate boards and the like?

My goodness.

One of my sons finally gave up on finding a good American woman as a wife and married a Philippine girl. She was brought up that the family was important and that her main job was to make the family happy, fix good meals, and keep the house clean instead of running around and spending her husband's money.

They are quite happy.

Others are finding the same type of wives. Those American girls who aren't getting married can't understand why. One woman in our church (38 and still single) can't understand why she can't find a man who is willing to have more than one date with her - when she insists on telling every man she meets exactly what he can and can't do every moment she is with him. And she won't believe anyone who tells her the problem.

Jason
If you have to ask that question it is obvious that you are young, have little experience, and what experience you have is all wrong.

The only fix
Utter collapse. That's it, that's the only way to fix all of this. When our government becomes so debt ridden, our dollar so worthless that even they cannot continually prop up all the freebie programs, then will everything get fixed.

Modern Americans never do anything until it is too late. It's too late to stop inflation, now the Fed is talking about it. It's too late to save Social Security, but no one will touch it until 2016 when it finally stops taking in more than it pays out, same with Medicare.

We need it to come back and bite us, and bite us hard, to demonstrate just how bad an idea it is. Nothing is a better teacher than reality.

...of the fact that it is non-standard usage, the word has been in the American lexicon since the early 20th century. It is a real word and its meaning is spelled out in most dictionaries.

Now, does anyone have any comments on the article itself?
***********************************************
I have heard this word repeated for years and knew it was said to ne a 'non-word' and don't use it myself, but have no problem with it.

The fact that it is what the first posters noticed about the column shows the mindset of some people. For more than eight years,GW Bush was called stupid, uneducated, etc. by nit-pickers who hated him anyway.

Sure,he did not have perfect command of the English language, and admitted as much. Many southerners ,myself included, also do not. We speak with a slangy, laid back jargon, but usually when we say something, you can rely on it being relevant and true.

Enter Barack Hussein Obama. A smooth talking, (as long as his teleprompter tells him what to say)shuck'n'jive brother with street cred.

He talks so pretty. He charms so well. I would not believe him on a stack of Bibles. How many lies has he already told and everyone just overlooks them? If his lips are moving,he is lying.

Bush did not outright lie to the American people, that I recall. I may be wrong, but I don't think so. He was ridiculed by much lesser people than he is.Yet,they love the Liar-in -Chief,we have now.

Imagine a World without Liberals

Imagine a World, where an 'Individual' can own private property that will NOT be taken from them.

Imagine a World, where an 'Individual' can work to provide for their own family and NOT have the results of their hard work and 'Good' decisions, stolen from them and given to those who refuse to do the same.

Imagine a World, where Individuals are NOT 'Punished' for working hard and those who refuse to 'Work Hard' are rewarded.

Imagine a World, where everyone has equal 'Rights and Protections' under the U. S. Constitution and Bill of Rights - instead of 'Special Rights' and 'Protections' for some, but NOT others.

Imagine a World, where a man and a woman can join together as 'One' and fulfill the design of the Creator to procreate, without being attacked, vilified and declared abnormal.

Imagine a World, where children are taught in Schools skills that will help them 'Survive' in a hostile world, instead of learning how to place a 'Condom on a Zucchni'.

Imagine a World, where an Individual is 'Judged by their Character', instead of being heralded for their 'Lack of Character'.

Imagine a World, where defenseless little babies who have survived an abortion and are separated from their"mothers" and struggling to live, are given aid instead of being set aside to die of thirst or starvation in excruciating pain alone and crying in terror - because the most powerful man in the World - Barack Obama - believes that when a woman 'Contracts' for a dead baby - they deserve a dead baby.

We actually read
A lot of you have identified the non-word use of "irregardless" and contrary to BoB_C, it is not a word at all. What this does tell us, is that we conservatives don't have as much of an attention span issue as libs. We read, we comprehend, and we digest. We didn't take it as truth, because a good conservative writer put it out there. That, my friends, is the important part of all the comments about the non-word. Good job by all, except maybe the author for forgetting to have someone proof his work.

John there is so much more

We no longer make truth a priority. We do not even flinch in front of a politicians lie. Our memmories are not that short.

We no longer care about our liberty. We are no longer willing to die for it.

We do not care about life. This government should have been and would have been overthrown on the day Roe vs. Wade won if we had been a people with a passion for life. A passion for justice. We were to worried about the latest socialist crisis. The population bomb.

We do not worship the Creator. We have decided that we can make our own set of rules to live by. Which can change on a daily basis.

We no longer respect parent's rights. Government schools are usurping the parents role. Not because parents are unwilling to parent but because the government, in order to become more powerful and reach the socialist UTOPIAN dream, must brainwash our children. Brainwash our children into a one-world religion free of God. So we are becoming less than human.

Sex,football, sex, football, sex, football. Food. How many men are willing to stand for what is right? They are way too happy being hedonists. My daughter calls the teenage boys in highschool "women". Why have men grown so effeminate?

Ours today vs. theirs back then
"If we were in the same situation as the Founding Fathers, could our political leaders step up to the plate and do as well?"

How might that turn out?

Great Column John.
Excellent column. But someone is correct in saying that irregardless is not a word. Regardless is a word and conveys the meaning you seek.

Benjamin Rush
"[T]he only foundation for a useful education in a republic is to be aid in religion. Without this there can be no virtue, and without virtue there can be no liberty, and liberty is the object and life of all republican governments. Without religion, I believe that learning does real mischief to the morals and principles of mankind."

Gouverneur Morris
"[F]or avoiding the extremes of despotism or anarchy . . . the only ground of hope must be on the morals of the people. I believe that religion is the only solid base of morals and that morals are the only possible support of free governments. [T]herefore education should teach the precepts of religion and the duties of man towards God."

Wow...if is obvious that with your lack of an answer that you don't have a good one.

"[Why] should not the Bible regain the place it once held as a school book? Its morals are pure, its examples captivating and noble. The reverence for the Sacred Book that is thus early impressed lasts long; and probably if not impressed in infancy, never takes firm hold of the mind."

1. Lack of Personal Responsibility: Octomom, Mama Obama and other Liberal Welfare Mothers.
2. Short Attention Spans: Idiots who voted for Hope and Change, all 70,000,000 of them.

3. Excessive Self Esteem: Whiny Liberals like Sophie, Moronio, TR and Shorts who brag ENDLESSLY about themselves while having LITTLE reason to do so.

4. Short Term Thinking/Instant Gratification: Kneejerk Do Gooder Liberals who shovel OPM on ANY problem.

5. Immorality: Murderers like Ted Kennedy, Rapists like Bill Clintons, Racists like KKK Byrd and Hal Drunkahue.

How a Liberal Obama wants America

1) Liberals accommodate the Citizens who refuse to provide for themselves, by stealing from those Citizens who do provide for themselves and 'Spread the Wealth'.

2) Liberals redefine 'Perverted Behavior' as good, so that those bound by perversion can have 'Self Esteem'.

3) Liberals declare that 'Good is Evil' and that 'Evil is Good', in order to destroy any moral codes, values and the idea of right and wrong.

4) Liberals perpetuate Racism and Bigotry as necessary to achieve 'Equality' and therefore bring about 'Social Justice'.

5) Liberals are against 'Equal Rights' and 'Protections', provided by the United States Constitution and Bill of Rights for every Citizen in America, because they 'Feel' that certain races, genders and sexual preferences should have 'Special Rights and Protections' other citizens should not have.

6) Liberals believe that a 'Certain Class of Citizens' (babies), should have no 'Rights or Protections' in order that another 'Class of Citizens' can kill them.

7) Liberals show 'Empathy' for criminals, rapists, murderers but NO 'Sympathy' for the victims of those criminals.

8) Liberals feel that America's enemies, who have 'Sworn' to kill and destroy all of America's Citizens should be treated with 'Honor and Respect', even if that means the 'Destruction of America'.

9) Liberals view America's veterans as potential terrorist who must be constantly monitored. At no times do they treat them with 'Honor and Respect' except to pay lip service during a photo op. (thanks Russ)

10) Liberals are 'Ashamed' of America, because its Citizens have created the most powerful and free Country in the history of mankind.

11) Liberals believe that 'Socialism', which has caused over 100,000,000 deaths by murder and starvation, is the 'Best Approach' for 'Change' in America.

I am also concernes about the
ideals that immigrants being welcomed into this country hold. We do not have room for those that do not have a passion for capitalism. Socialists those that do not love our Constitution should not be allowed to come in.

third paragraph paraphrased

Students used to be taught to emulate and respect success. Now they are urged to demonize success and turn to government and the public teat for the good life free from education or effort.

Its not exactly character flaw so much as attitude. Its difficult to determine just how much of character is innate and how much instilled by culture and peer pressure. Attitude and the actions of the go along to get along plastic people are powerfully affected by surroundings. The MSM, Hollywood, tv and the antics of role model newsmakers in high and highly visible positions are cheapening and weakening the standards and attitudes that carried this country to success. Many of the trolls post we are headed out of darkness into a new era of light. Fairness, an easy life of free bubble up and rainbow stew will be available for all. Merely tax the rich and spread the wealth. This persistant vision has ensnared shallow thinkers since the dawn of recorded history. It has never worked. I see no reason it will work now.

Oh well, it was fun while it lasted. There is some hope. After all, the losers of WWII have re-built from the destruction of 1945. It took 2 generations of deprivation and grueling hard work. Ruthless allocation of education and cultural rewards to the capable contributors. Life under socialism is not bad for engineers and doctors, at the cost of stagnation for the lower classes.

For Jason

Two key components of the overwhelming success of bourgeois societies is a dedication to material success and a focus on two parent families raising children. Throughout history societies that value material success and familial stability have trounced societies that did not place equal emphasis on these values.

Barack Obama Thinks Freedom is Precious

Barack Obama thinks Freedom is Precious, so precious that it must be 'Rationed'.

Poll on closing GITMO

"Americans are overwhelmingly opposed to closing the detention center for suspected terrorists at Guantanamo Bay and moving some of the detainees to prisons on U.S. soil, a USA TODAY/Gallup Poll finds.

By more than 2-1, those surveyed say Guantanamo shouldn't be closed. By more than 3-1, they oppose moving some of the accused terrorists housed there to prisons in their own states.

In the survey, Americans were inclined to accept the argument by Cheney and former president George W. Bush that the detention center had made the United States safer. By 40%-18%, they said the prison had strengthened national security rather than weakened it.

Those who want the prison to remain open feel more strongly on the subject that those who want to close it. A 54% majority of those polled say the prison shouldn't be closed, and that they'll be upset if the administration moves forward to close it."

Right on!
This is definitely the most inarguable piece of writing! I think the first step on the "road back" is personal responsibility. This includes having a set of values. It's the basics. Everything else flows from that. My family is old-country Polish. They may not have had fancy educations but they came to this country for a better life and MADE one! And they had values, took responsibility for themselves AND their children, and gave us kids a solid life with love and values. Many of us kids now have fancy educations and live better than they did, but boy we had real values instilled in us and they won't die. Political correctness gets us nowhere. I've always wondered why our lawmakers don't have term limits and why changes made by the different administrations aren't for the long-haul. What good do policy changes make if they're going to be overturned the minute someone new gets into office...and purely for the sake of overturning the previous administration's policies. Government is not in touch with the people. Government is self-serving. oiy.

Higlander Juan of 8:31
If its any consolation, home schooling has doubled in the last 8 or 9 years, and no end in sight. Public Charter schools are a way to get tax money out of the hands of the PC union-dominated PC education complex, and they are increasing too. I work at one, and we are leading a slow but on-going revolution.

The trend to alternate schooling is led and more and more involves upwardly mobile people. People who realize education is the upward path won't put up with the schooling provided in many places. Another factor is schools dominated by anti-social elements which the public school system refuses to control. More and more, public schools are becoming a place for losers. Intelligent caring parents at every economic level look for alternatives. This is why Parochial schools in DC have so few Catholics as a per cent of the students.

Gratitude and Virtues Generally!!
Cicero, Roman Philosopher made a profound statement that went more or less like this: "Gratitude is the Greatest of All Virtues, if not the Mother Of All Virtues."

This is indeed a profound statement, and makes perfect sense. If a person has no gratitude for all the blessings in life, they rarely develop other virtues such as love, kindness, respect for others, taking responsibility for themselves, a work ethic, etc. That is the primary problem in this nation today, and it is a direct consequence of a socialistic governmental policies, Hollywood, The Music Industry, and especially the Socialistic Government Public School System.

When you do not work for what you have, you have no respect for what you have, and you become an ingrate. Welfare programs have created a culture of Un-Gratefulness and Disrespect, and a generation of folks with no work ethic.

And, now we have a president, who has never earned one thing that he has, and is totally ungrateful for the country which offered him every opportunity in the world.

Obama is the product of a society that has no gratitude for America's greatness, and the people in this country that made it all possible. Obama and his minions have no virtues, and it all begins with their lack of gratitude for having had the opportunity to live in the Greatest Country in The World, and it became this great nation, because our forefathers, and our ancestors realized that they were blessed to live in the USA.

Joycey wrote:
"Why have men grown so effeminate?"

-- It's because we've spurned our Creator. When we do that, we subjugate His image within us. In men, that is tantamount to rejecting the manhood within, because the Almighty chooses to express the masculine side of His glory through men, and the feminine side of His glory through women -- and He loves and rejoices in both. It's up to us to acknowledge this truth and live in conformity to it. Or not.

You say no to God, you say no to manhood. Simple.

But the rejection of God is the worship of Lucifer. And Lucifer is effeminate. Vicious and malicious and dangerous and depraved -- but effeminate.

Lucifer is a liar and a cheat and a conniver and a sneak and a backstabber.

Effeminate.

He sold the first woman a bill of goods, she bought it, and he has been manipulating women everywhere ever since. Same lie. Same bitter consequences.

Now women imitate all the worst traits men have displayed, and they butcher their own children. Choice, I think they call that.

Lucifer has also deceived men into abdicating our responsibilities before God, toward one another and to love and protect our women and children.

So instead we embrace our own lusts and pleasures and thus lose the eye of the tiger and the heart of the shepherd.

Effeminate.

Obama is the perfect president for this generation of girly men: He does not stand up to the nation's enemies, but is himself its enemy; he does not protect our borders, but talks very pretty and makes nice with all the bad boys.

To quote from "A View From the Bridge:
"He sings, he cooks, he could make dresses. …"

It is in dictionaries only because stupid people keep using it. Every time someone utters that pseudo-word, the IQ of the nation falls a few more points.

If enough people started saying plertybugglenit ("of or pertaining to the gross domestic product of the nation of Gabon"), Merriam-Webster would eventually claim that is a "word", too.

I think it's wonderful that several commented on "irregardless". You can tell it's a conservative blog based on that alone.

Very good
Analysis by Hawkins. Right on the money. Problem is the social calamities he describes accompany the dissolution of all empires and, like brain cancer, are irreversible. There is no way to return America to the muscular, ethical, rugged individualism of its middle years. It is fat, bloated, with hard arteries, liver spots, and high cholesterol, and this "president" is hell bent on promulgating and enfranchising all the ills Hawkins decries.

If, we were to split like Rome, at least one half of the American empire would endure for a while, and given how long Byzantium outlived the western Roman Empire, it's an excellent idea. But an America governed and overrun by liberals can not long endure and we conservatives will perish along with it.

I never said that I found the Soviet Union particularly appealing. But when you talk about the Soviet Union, you are talking about it's government, not it's people. Do you honestly think that everyone who lived there was having the time of their lives living under the valueless hammer and sickle? And many Russians at the time were religious.

I value thinking for myself, making up my own mind on various issues, not following the ideas of my government, or a bunch of pre-dark ages goat herders.

I asked a liberal one time (he was raving about the rights of a criminal) why he was more concerned about the criminal than the victim.

He told me that the victim had plenty of sympathy from family and friends already. Besides, the victim had recovered from his injuries and losses and therefore no longer needed sympathy. The criminal needed the attention now as a result.

For Jason

Please accept my assurance that I was not trying to place words in your mouth. I drew on the Soviet comparison simply because that was the most completely atheistic society I could think of. Again, I sense a real conflict with contemporary American religion, is there a particular social issue that you feel oppressed by?

Good job.

The current mess is not even the tip of the iceberg. Considering the oncoming misery, i can only believe that Obama wants massive crisis to assume massive power. He believes, and has surrounded himself with those who believe, that a good crisis should never go to waste.

Time will tell. Discussion with the trolls is re-arranging chairs on a ship going down. Smart Jews left Germany in the 30's. It may well come to that here. Smart billionaires are leaving New York and California now for greener pastures. Nevada, Tx, Fl and Utah are benefitting. How peculiar most of these states have no income taxes. If things get tough all over, they will just go where movers and shakers are welcome. They are already doing their investing off shore.

Politically Correct Utopia is an ongoing dream. A perfect culture under a perfect government is achievable just as soon as people are perfect. I prefer dealing with reality, results, and principles shown to work, not perfectly, but effectively.

Liberal Obama is spending millions to relocate to this country thousands of Muslims marinated in hate for Jews and America from Gaza. He is importing people who have been indoctrinated from birth with the concept that killing oneself by suicide bombing is a ticket to paradise with 72 virgins waiting for your pleasure.

Maybe Obama will give more details when he gives his full American apology speech in Cairo this week.

Haste makes dumb!
Make that blank, not black in my last post. You should see my red face!

LIBERALS are destroying America
Check this out --
"The American people will never knowingly adopt socialism. But under the name of ‘liberalism’ they will adopt every fragment of the socialist program until one day America will be a socialist nation without knowing how it happened... I no longer need to run as a Presidential candidate for the Socialist Party. The Democrat Party has adopted our platform." - Norman Thomas, six-time U.S. presidential candidate for the Socialist Party, 1944.

1944. Wow.

Pistol - Homeschooling
You said there is no end in sight on this.

Unfortunately there is. Several European countries (Germany in particular) have banned it since the students need to all get the same education. In California, recently, a judge ruled that the students needed to get alternate education to what they were being taught at home. (He had to back off but he tried.) A school recently (saw the info yesterday) is requiring all students to take one day of homosexual training with no excuse for missing. And it is to start at age 5. A judge on the East Coast (Florida, I think) has ruled that even thought home schooled children are doing better on tests, etc. than public school taught children, that the kids need to recieve alternative teaching so the kids can make up their own minds about things like religion.

So I think I'm seeing the end - unless we change our government.

Sorry, Jason
I thought my answer was self-evident. If you had any experience in several different life-styles including a Christian one, you would know what was the best. Since you don't, you fail to see the answer. That isn't my trouble or fault - it is yours.

I guess in your model a gay person cannot be a citizen. Don't ask don't tell means thay can't serve in the military and they of course can't marry.

Plus if a persons gains citzenship by owning land and they lose that land or they get divorced is that citizenship then revolked. What is the status of the young 20 year old in college studying to be a doctor, a precitizen?

Your visiion of Democracy is akind to that of ancient rome. It is the providence of an elite class.

Just Words
Two of them come to mind. AIN'T and now,IRREGARDLESS.
Both have been in Webster's Dictionary for decades,so they are WORDS.

There are many words we have come to accept that aren't even in Websters because they have evolved from circumstances, such as 'Borking ' someone.

That means to throw someone under the bus because you don't like their views on a subject when they have been appointed by a Republican president.

You so-called elitist who think words are so important ,can't see the forest for the trees. How you say something is not nearly as important as what you say.

You are right Obama inherited a big mess. The Reagan Era has finally come to a close a complete and utter disaster coming to a close. Everything that Obama has had to contend with has been inherited and yet just over 100 days into his tenure you are talking about succession.

My prediction is that in eight years, Obama will fix many of the problems that you are so alarmed about including our borders. He will help guide us to the energy independence that Republicans spoke about but did nothing to fix. All I would ask is that you stop listening to the propoganada on fox news and talk radio and give this extraordinary leader a chance to fix up as you point out the utter disaster left to him when he took office in January.

O won't fix anything as there is
no real money.

Send the following letter to Sens.:Judge Sonia Sotomayor is unfit to serve on the Supreme Court of the United States because she sees herself as a political activist first and a jurist second. In a speech in California in 2001 she disparaged white male judges, saying, "I would hope that a wise Latino woman with the richness of her experiences would more often than not reach a better conclusion (as a judge) than a white male who hasn't lived that life."

In a current case from the New Haven, Connecticut, fire department, Sotomayor has ruled from the appellant court that job applicants' loss of promotion after succeeding on a test designed to be race neutral was "thorough, thoughtful, and well reasoned," because no black applicant had achieved an acceptable score. That seventeen (17) "white" test takers had succeeded, including ONE HISPANIC, the test was thrown out by the officials in New Haven and no promotions granted to anyone. Such activism shows Sotomayor is less interest in minority success than enforcing that success by any means FROM THE BENCH.

On the Second Amendment, Sotomayor is anti-gun as revealed in "the right to possess a gun is clearly not a fundamental right" (US v Sanchez-Villar, 2004). This opinion is exactly opposite of the recent US Court ruling supporting an earlier verdict in Washington,, DC, that affirmed the right to bear arms as fundamental as any rights enumerated in any other amendment in the Bill of Rights.

Sotomayor was only following her own philosophy that appellant courts are where "policy is made", which she claimed at Duke University in 2005.

This Obama nominee, as with many others, is out of step with Main Street America, out of step with Supreme Court rulings, and not qualified on her legal history or personal beliefs to be a Supreme Court justice. That she is of Puerto Rican descent and struggled to make her position in life is immaterial.

Obama Inherited Problems?
So Bush was King and Obama is his son? Who knew?

Joycey
Do you think the people who come over the border legally or illegally who mow our lawns, pick our fruit, clean dishes in resturants, work two and three jobs to make ends meet are socialists. These people are no different that the people who left Ireland or Italy or Poland and who struggled to make a better life for themselves. We have a real problem with our borders and as we have seen 8 years of Republican leadership did not fix the problem. But lets not for one moment suggest that these people come her to collect welfare. No they come to work because by their standards the pay is good and the work is available and we all benefit from the cheap labor.

The reason we have not solved this problem is that the nativists conservatives are clashing with the corporate conservatives. That is why the issue went no where. Lets not forget that is was the great one Reagan that granted amnesty, something wignuts happen to just forget.

Simon
You can't pin this all on Bush. It starts with the Reagan Revolution, the contract put out on America and all those Republican Members of Congress who talked a good game but did squat.

Now it is Obama's turn to try his approach. If he is successful we will have a long Democratic Majority. If he fails, a new generation of conservatives will have a chance to try their ideas. My money is on Obama.

For Jason

Please accept my assurance that I was not trying to place words in your mouth. I drew on the Soviet comparison simply because that was the most completely atheistic society I could think of. Again, I sense a real conflict with contemporary American religion, is there a particular social issue that you feel oppressed by?

renny
I agree with you that Republicans dug Obama a big whole to dig his way out of. But one things for sure had Republicans remained in power the whole would be getting deeper. Complex programs require more than the simplistic solutions we say under Republicans.

Its gonna take some time, but Obama will turn things around.

A treasured relic awarded by members of my AAU basketball team in Texas. The word was made popular at the time by Pistol Pete Reiser, a fine baseball player whose shortened career led to padding baseball outfield fences.
A Texas ranger named Frank "Pistol Pete" Eaton was the first use of the nickname i have run across. He didn't get his nickname in any game. He was invited to join the rangers at an early age after he went into the lawless Cherokee Strip and took out 5 outlaws who had shot down his father.

Sad but true
Unfortunately, all that John Hawkins says here is true. Many of us have taken a "hunker down" approach to the future. The best that can happen is for government to pass us by. We can turn off the television and quit going to movies; we can avoid confrontation, lest our anger erupt violently. The other fellow's rights might be infringed, but we sigh with relief that nobody has bothered us - YET.

How else can political corruption, tyranny, and fascism survive in the United States of America?

JMO51 - NY
I really hope your post was satire.

"Everything that Obama has had to contend with has been inherited and yet just over 100 days into his tenure you are talking about succession." Poor little boy Obama!

He also inherited a problem that the Democrats caused with persuading banks and mortgage companies to give mortgages to unqualified buyers. Neither Obama nor any Democrats in office have taken responsiblity for their actions, nor will they. They enjoy blaming Bush too much. Real Men stand up and admit their mistakes and don't lie everytime they give a speech. I'll add Pelosi to that list.

Do you think that a newly elected President believes that being President of the USA is a walk in the park, never inherits problems, spends $3 Trillion Dollars, presents Utopia to the American people and Voila, the job is done.

I have lived in this wonderful country for 69 years, served it and have been proud of it and you bet I would take up arms and join in succession before I watch it become a Fasist Nation.

JMO51
"You can't pin this all on Bush. It start with Reagan..."

Actually, it started with the CRA in the Carter Administration. The CRA was further expanded under the Clinton Administration and the Democrats fought regulation of FannieMae and FreddieMac.

Further, it was Alan Greenspan, Lawrence Summers and Robert Rubin, who fought against derivative regulation during the Clinton Administration.

5 Conservative Character Flaws
This article should have been called "5 Conservative Character Flaws That Are Destroying America's Future"

Because over all Liberals have been decrying these tendencies for years and their voice has been falling on conservatives tin ears.

JM051, You stated:
"These people are no different that the people who left Ireland or Italy or Poland"

I believe this to be an unfair comparison. The Polish immigrants never stole identities. The Italians came in legally and the Irish didn't falcify documents.

And you said: "But lets not for one moment suggest that these people come her to collect welfare."
I agree, but it's why they don't leave. Can you explain the term Unemployed Undocumented Worker?

Wow...
How am I foul mouthed?

I thought you middle class Christian Americans were all about freedom. The words I use are just words. That is all they are...just words.

It seems that liberals and conservatives want to limit my freedoms. There is no room for political correctness, and that includes limiting my freedom to say what I want, so deal with it.

-- Well, there ARE many such. So your point is what?

Anyhow, "children" have always known that "gay" people "excist," once they attain to a certain age. What is it that you are so desperate to "teach" them, therefore? To think as you do? Why?

Very young children do not "know" that "gay" people exist, because sexuality is not a part of their natural experience or awareness -- unless some fool or pervert attempts to force matters and rob them of their innocence.

Is that what you're about?

Older children learn on their own that “gay” people exist. And if those children are properly taught, they will avoid that trap. If they are not, they will fall into it. In any case, they do learn that “gay” people exist. Want to tell us what it is exactly that you’re so desperate to add to the equation?

You wouldn’t happen to have an agenda here, would you?

Re: JMO51 - You couldn't be more wrong
"While there are many fine religious schools, one thing that they cannot provide to students is an opportunity to interact with people from different cultures and with different religious views."

Both of my children attending a Roman Catholic elementary school in Virginia. Their classmates included catholics, muslims, non-catholic Christians and Buddists. They came from India, Pakistan, Thailad, and Europe. If anything, they have had more of an opportunity to interact with these different cultures because such discussions are not taboo as they are in public schools.

Jason, you stated:
"includes limiting my freedom to say what I want"

Sometimes it's best to hold back our true feelings. Do your parents tell you honestly how proud they are of you?

JMO51
Illegals are coming here because of Welfare. Because if it were not for Welfare -- our society's ball and chain would be out doing the jobs the Mexicans are doing!

We've come-up with every form of public subsistence imaginable AND we've come-up with every program under the sun to send our young people off to college. And so when you have millions setting on their butts collecting Welfare of some sort and millions more sitting in classrooms -- we've got a huge void to fill in the workforce.

To think that this problem is caused by businesses wanting "cheap labor" is absurd -- not to mention not using your head. Mexico has always been at our border, their economy has always been far inferior to ours and businesses in the U.S. have always sought ways to reduce labor costs. And that being the case, why didn't we have this problem 40, 50 years ago and beyond? The answer is simple: 50 years ago we didn't have a Welfare class and we weren't trying to seat every nitwit who struggles spelling his/her own name -- in a college classroom somewhere.

Stop paying Welfare, end all these insidious "education" programs and there won't be nearly as many jobs available -- for the Mexicans to come here for.

Shorts says that 'gays' …
"… are people like you and me … "

-- Except that they are not, are they, Shorts? Their sexual proclivities are unnatural, remember? That's not "like" me. They experience sexual attractions toward people they should not, and they actually engage in sex acts with such. That's not "like" me.

Is it like you?

Now, said practices might not mean much to me personally, except when those who engage in them want to force me to approve them. In so doing, they turn their sexual acts into political actions. At that point, it all becomes public and forces me to make statements and to take a stand, right? Either that, or just accept passively whatever these self-obsessed radicals want to impose. Is that what you prefer I do?

And yes, my parents tell me how proud they are of me on a somewhat regular basis.

And to anyone who has a problem with my filthy language...political correctness is a two way road. Don't complain about people being too PC and the complain about it when people use words that you claim to find offensive.

"And to anyone who has a problem with my filthy language...political correctness is a two way road. Don't complain about people being too PC and the complain about it when people use words that you claim to find offensive"

If you believe that your vulgar and obscene language is equivalent to politically incorrect speech, then you have problems which cannot be fixed.

"irregardless" and "bloodless"
The fuss over "irregardless", a word, incidentally, which I am too good ever to use myself, reminds me of the moment on "The Simpsons" when Dr. Nick Riviera accidentally starts a fire in his office with a gas cannister and complains in disbelief, "'inflammable' means 'flammable'??".

And "bloodless" in this context is not an incitement to violence. Rather, it invokes that piece of chicken on my cutting board: dead, drained, and at someone else's mercy.

Now, trolls, resume your pointless bickering.

What to do about it?
Do what the libs did. Infiltrate the education system with teachers and administrators of a more conservative bent like the socialists did with their liberal leaning people.
Then use stealth to get conservatives into the media and tv and movie business.
If parents weren't so whiny and expecting handouts in the name of fairness, we would not have such a whiny bunch of young people to carry on the whiny, gimme, gimme traditions of these last couple of generations.
We need to get to the young people.

Either that or ship all of the socialism fans to hard core socialist countries and just drop them there with no money and no help from home and then see how they like it. See if their attitudes change.

You forgot one...
Common Sense. No one has any common sense anymore. I doubt if anyone under the age of 30 can even tell you what common sense is.

The term "politically incorrect" is used to refer to language or ideas that may cause offense, among other things.

Jason the Monkey

African hunters know how to trap 'Monkeys', which is a staple in many communities in Africa.

The Hunters first 'Find or Make' a hollow log.

The Hunters then drill holes in the log just big enough for the monkeys hand.

The Hunters then drop food through each hole.

When the monkeys who are looking for a 'Free Meal' discover the log, they insert their hands grabbing a handful of free food, which makes a fist, which is now larger than the hole.

When the Hunters arrive at the log, the monkeys are terrified - but refuse to let go of the free meal.

Thus, the monkeys sell their freedom and lives for a 'Free Meal'.

This analogizes the methodology of Liberals and their captors.

NOTE: It is important to notice that the 'Log' which holds the 'Free Meal' is hollow.

"...Liberals have been decrying these tendencies for years and their voice has been falling on conservatives tin ears." [sic]

You're joking, right?

Liberals have been the Great Enablers of these flaws, though I concede that their leadership does not display the second, a short attention span: they have plans to undermine our institutions and upend this great nation, and they are focused on achieving them, regardless of how incrementally.

With the Community Organizer in the White House and Pelosi and Reid running Congress, however, mere increments are no longer necessary: the American peoples (deliberately plural) are ready for a "Great Leap Forward".

And you know how bad it has become when even "Pravda" is lecturing us on our Marxism.

Feeding Trolls----

can sometimes develop the premise of an article. Our usual cadre of annoying trolls seems to breakdown into two basic groups, GLBT activists and union brothers. The union brothers are typified by weak logic and poor rhetorical skills. The substance of their posts usually revolves around Bush sucks, and happy days are here again. The GLBT activists are usually more rabid, resort to invective more quickly, and generally demonstrate a real hatred of traditional American culture. A portion the posts here today offer clear support of Hawkins assertions about the cultural rot afflicting the country today. The more some people vent, the more they seem to discredit their own causes.

HERE IS THE SOLUTION
MNDUCK,
You stated that we needed solutions to what the author outlined as very real and threatening problems that America is facing. The number one thing that we as American citizens can do is elect politicians that are honest and decent. You can say what you want about President George W. Bush, but he is a decent and honarable man. Not one scandal erupted concerning him throughout his administration (other than the things that people made up). I really miss seeing he and fist lady Laura's honest and sincere faces. Ethical people are decent and honest to the core. What we have in the White House now are two individuals who have NO moral or ethical bone in their body ( I can tell the truth about them because I am black). The entire administration is full of the same type of people. This country is screwed.

In the video, an associate of Abdul Haq, or perhaps Haq himself, is seen standing in front of al Qaeda’s black flag while issuing threats against civilians and Chinese personnel attending the 2008 Olympic games.

The Treasury Department explains: "Under Haq, trained terrorists planned to sabotage the Olympic Games by conducting terrorist attacks within China before the Olympics began."

Now remember Saddam had voiced his intentions to aquire nukes. He had WMDs and used them. This was no secret. In fact the Clinton administration is on record stating that Saddam was a threat to the U.S. and the world.
Al Gore, Madelyn Albright, Ted kennedy, et al, all stated that he would use nukes if he aqurieds them ans should be taken out. All before 911. How soon the liberals forget.

I would suggest you read "saddam's Secrets" by general Georges Sada. One of Saddam's confidants who later exposed the tyrants plans.
He admits WMDs were moved to Syria nd that the U.N. inspectors, including Hans Blix, were inept, corrupt and actually assisted Saddam by turning their heads.

Objectivity is the key my friend if you seek the truth.

Personal Responsibility Has New Meaning
Personal Responsibility has new meaning in our Country thanks to Obama and Congress and in the state of Taxconsin thanks to Governor Doyle. Let's see, how many of my fellow citizens and illegal non-citizens am I personally responsible for:

$50 billion plus for the UAW and now they want me to buy a clown car to help them out
$100 billion plus for AIG, Citigroup, and the other inept yahoos
Trillions of dollars paying for mortagages that people can't afford,
Paying for credit cards that people can't afford,
Paying for food stamps and housing for families that have been on welfare for generations,
Paying for child care for people who do not work and never plan to work,
Paying for cell phones for those who can't afford them
Paying for health care for those who do not chose to pay their own way,
Paying for education that graduates 50% of most inner city kids

Where is their personal responsibility...

Republican Party
We need to send this message to EVERY single representative and senator in the Republican Party and remind them of elections in 2010 Here is a clear simple message from the heartland to the sorry excuses for conservatives that run the Republican Party:.. We do not want leftist-lites. We want principled and outspoken leaders that do not give a damn about the good opinion of the corrupt press or foreign princes or the approval of the "other side of the isle." We do not want politically coreect euphemisms and gestures. We want you to go for the jugular, we want you to expose the corruption, uncover the deceit, shout out your condemnation and outrage and hit them again and again and again. We want you to get mad at the trillions in theft and act mad. Do not pull your punches and do not back down from the fight. We want you act like Patriots and save this country, because the consequences, despite our wealth and despite our power, are the same as they were at our founding

I've never asked for anything from the government.

I save 15% of what I earn.

And I'm what you would call a "socialist."

BTW, "irregardless?"

Yes, Richard, "Irregardless"
It is the Austrian word for "regardless". Obama will confirm that.

Jason, I'll field your question
Its Judeo-Christian values that inspired the creation of schools and hospitals. The Ivy League colleges (our original institutions) were all started by churches, as were the country's first hospitals. Free people (as declared so in scripture) being able to produce goods or provide services for personal profit led to the prosperity that America has clearly enjoyed and grown accustomed to. Our collective prosperity has trickled into the world market on many levels, espcially attracting people worldwide over to our shores to have new lives. Take that God-given freedom away "for the greater good", and we lose the abundance and subsequently prosperity.

The beauty is, one doesn't have to be Christian or Jewish to enjoy the fruits of the ideologies in practice, just as we all benefit from and enjoy what God provides whether we believe in Him or not. That's the way it is with the Judeo-Christian tradition.

Dear oldsocialworker
You should be writing for Saturday Night Live. In "Austrian."

Well, Richard
Now I feel funny AND diverse! Now I'm sure there is a F and D surplus tax coming my way...

Mr. Hawkins
Pretty good list.

I would only add "apathy" or "complacentcy".

Something along the lines of, "Since I'm not drowning, the ship can't be sinking".

Excessive self esteem?
When I saw the category of "excessive self-esteem", Rush Limbaugh and Glen Beck immediately came to mind.

short attention spans
Many Americans seem to have very short attention spans. Have we forgotten $4/gallon gas? Last summer we seemed ready to rid ourselves of our addiction to oil (and not just "foreign oil"). But once the price of oil went down again our priorities have changed. Someday we will have alternative sources of fuel and sustainable energy sources. Let's just hope we don't end up buying it from the Chinese.

Today's problems: inherited from Reagan?
I think not. The recession was caused by a MASSIVE misallocation of funds by lenders and borrowers, brought on by the Community Reinvestment Act.

That law was pushed and signed by Carter, and put on steroids by Clinton, whose Treasury officials threatened banks who did not meet their quotas of "qualifying" loans.

By the way, a "qualifying" loan is one to a borrower who stands only a slim chance of being able to pay.

That, pushed by ACORN and codified by Democrats, created a whole new class of home "owner." New borrowers flooded the market, causing a massive wave of home-building to supply the new demand.

The demand also pushed home prices into the stratosphere. Those who already owned homes were able to leverage newfound "equity" (in reality just paper equity caused by the Carter/Clinton/ACORN bubble) for second and third mortgages to finance extravagant lifestyles. Can't pay cash? Just take it out of the ever-increasing equity of your house.

SYNDICATED COLUMN: Mr. Obama: Resign Now
With Democrats Like Him, Who Needs Dictators?

We expected broken promises. But the gap between the soaring expectations that accompanied Barack Obama's inauguration and his wretched performance is the broadest such chasm in recent historical memory. This guy makes Bill Clinton look like a paragon of integrity and follow-through.

From healthcare to torture to the economy to war, Obama has reneged on pledges real and implied. So timid and so owned is he that he trembles in fear of offending, of all things, the government of Turkey. Obama has officially reneged on his campaign promise to acknowledge the Armenian genocide. When a president doesn't have the 'nads to annoy the Turks, why does he bother to show up for work in the morning?

Obama is useless. Worse than that, he's dangerous. Which is why, if he has any patriotism left after the thousands of meetings he has sat through with corporate contributors, blood-sucking lobbyists and corrupt politicians, he ought to step down now—before he drags us further into the abyss.

........

Obama is cute. He is charming. But there is something rotten inside him. Unlike the Republicans who backed Bush, I won't follow a terrible leader just because I voted for him. Obama has revealed himself. He is a monster, and he should remove himself from power.

Housing Bubble continued...
Every bit of the current economic morass came about because of the gigantic, enormous, impossible to exaggerate MARKET DISTORTION caused by the ACORN-sponsored CRA enticing millions of unqualified buyers into the mortgage market.

Trillions of dollars have been wiped out. Where did it all go?

Travel to the faraway suburbs of any major metropolis and take a gander at the vast tracts of new homes for sale. In many of these new exurban subdivisions, construction was summarily stopped on several homes, which were simply abandoned in whatever state of construction they were in. All of this overbuilding is a monument to hubris, the stupidity of men who believe it's all right to tell their constituents they're getting something for nothing.

Obama is up to his eyeballs in this mess--he was one of the lawyers suing banks to get them to loan to unqualified borrowers. He was the tip of ACORN's spear--and is even more so now.

What he has inherited is a crisis of his own making--his and his buddies' over at ACORN.

And all I asked...
Was how Christian America was the best culture, and I got an onslaught of insults, which forced me to defend myself.

I still haven't gotten an answer to my question.

Obama Wants Uighurs Released in America

Obama Officials at Odds Over Releasing Detainees in U.S.

"Attorney General Eric Holder and National Intelligence Director Dennis Blair have said it's possible some Guantanamo detainees would be released in the U.S. but Solicitor General Elena Kagan strongly disagrees.

Of the 240 detainees remaining at the prison, 17 are Uighurs, Turkish Muslims from Western China, who have been cleared for release.

Attorney General Eric Holder and National Intelligence Director Dennis Blair have said it's possible they would be released in the U.S., but Solicitor General Elena Kagan strongly disagrees.

Kagan filed a brief with the Supreme Court on Friday arguing that the Uighurs have no right to come to the U.S. "outside the framework of immigration laws."

...Kagan supports an appeals court ruling that overturned a federal court's decision to order the Uighurs released in Washington."

UPDATE: The Obama Administration has sent 'State of the Art' laptop computers and trainers to teach the Uighurs how to email etc. in hopes of having them released in the United States.

Uighur Detainees at Gitmo Compare U.S. to Hitler
America is twice as bad as the Nazis -- that was the harsh accusation by the Chinese Muslims, also known as the Uighurs, held at Guantanamo Bay.

Now that Barack Obama owns a Car Company

Senate Poised to Pass 'Cash for Clunkers' Bill
Sens. Debbie Stabenow, D-Mich., and Sam Brownback, R-Kan., introduced an amendment Tuesday that would set up a program that allows consumers with older, less fuel efficient vehicles to trade in their "clunker" for a voucher worth up to $4,500 toward the purchase of a new car.

There is enough
blame for the mess when Obama took over to cover virtually every DC politician who has served in the last 40 years. About all that is open for discussion is the degree. Trying to identify who shot John the worst or the oftenest is pointless. Obama and crew have the helm, the engine room and are charting the course. So far as i can see, they are extending and amplfying every mistake every president has made since LBJ. Deficit spending? Obama is setting new records. Rewarding failure? His bailouts are unprecedented. New agencies? Car czar, Net czar. There is no connection betwen the beautiful responsible appealing things he says, and the damaging things he does. Some posters here see us heading for Utopia. Personally, i think we are going to get creamed. Its painful to bet against America and the American dollar, but Soros and i have both made money doing it. I plan to save what i've made. It may be worth something again some day.

Have a look in the mirror
And see who might be contributing to shorter attention spans. Of your 24 "articles" published here this year, all but 4 are laundry lists. Why not see if you can write an essay without bullet points or numbered paragraphs.

I usually don't say this to anyone because I really try to be a lady but "Shut up you idiot."

Common sense
Wherefore art thou? Certainly not in the Democrat party and certainly not in their followers. Common sense would have told them Obama would be the worse president this country has ever had including Jimmy Carter. Talk about excessive self esteem. Obama has it coming out his big ears.

Bruce, MN, Tax Pawlenty is definitely
a piece of work.

Our property taxes go up every year. Service fees go up every year. Are you telling me your county or city hasn't asked for a levy during Pawlenty's terms? You don't drive a car? You don't fish? You don't hunt? You don't use parks?

What other fees can you think of that have gone up in recent years?

Reread the Reagan years, you'll discover that after 1981's deficit making tax cut, Reagan raised taxes many times. Check for yourself.

My point is that raising taxes is not actually called for by just Democrats. It appears even a Republican can be responsible with the nations budget when reality kicks them in the head.

Answer this without presumption Retired.
"As a replacement for actual human decency and morality, we've turned to political correctness and bloodless legalisms, neither of which is an adequate replacement for doing the right thing because it's principled or virtuous. "

Now, try not to consider me.

Will you kindly explain what the "right thing" is?

I know what the "right thing" is. I have morals.

Use your logic and tell me why it's Ok to call for an end to "bloodless legalisms"?

Do you not understand what a bloodless legalism refers to?

What is Barack Obama Smoking?

HAHN, Germany — As President Obama prepared to leave Washington to fly to the Middle East, he conducted several television and radio interviews at the White House to frame the goals for a five-day trip, including the highly-anticipated speech Thursday at Cairo University in Egypt.

In an interview with Laura Haim on Canal Plus, a French television station, Mr. Obama noted that the United States also could be considered as “one of the largest Muslim countries in the world.”...

“And one of the points I want to make is, is that if you actually took the number of Muslim Americans, we’d be one of the largest Muslim countries in the world,” Mr. Obama said. “And so there’s got to be a better dialogue and a better understanding between the two peoples.”...

Barack Obama had another 57 state brain fart - according to the Pew Research Center there are 2.3 million Muslims in the United States.

There is over 1 Billion Muslims in the World.

Indonesia: 200 million Muslims. India: 156 million Muslims. Pakistan: 150 million Muslims.

Holy Crap
I almost cannot even bare to read this guys articles anymore. There is no one with a more distorted view of the world than John Hawkins. So having self-esteem, gay parades, and not using religion to determine logic based problems leads to a society crumbling, eh? LMAO he said something about how it is wrong not to deport illegal immigrants because it is the law. I guess if the law was changed then he would become a supporter of amnesty. If he didn't he would just show the contradictions present in all conservatives. The prison population is so high because Republicans do not want certain drugs legalized so many people are in jail for marijuana or we sent to prison for a petty crime but already had a drug offense on their records. America is in the toliet because of unwed mothers and abortions? Is this guy Mr. Coulter or something?

It is these kinds of people that made me vote for a Democrat for the first time in my entire life and turned me into a liberal from a pretty strong conservative. I do not agree with all the ideas and foundations of liberals, but I refuse to be in a category with John Hawkins, Ann Coulter, Rush Limbaugh, and the rest of you morons on this site.

Great Work,John
I agree with every one of your points. It is good to have a sensible, tell it like it is, young man who isn't afraid of a backlash from the left.

It always shows me we conservatives are on the right side when those on the left disagree so vehemently with us.

We are rotten to the core.
America and the West are imploding. We live in a mass consumerist society that encourages instant gratification and total disdain for our neighbour. In this dog eat dog society that we have carved out for ourselves, we believe that the eternal key to fulfilment and happiness is promotion, a bigger car, a second house, like minded friends (who scrutinize your life and plan how they can take some of that which they seek from you and onto them.).
We go to church / synagogue to pray in fellowship on Saturday / Sunday and screw the same people we sing our praises to the Lord with on Monday.
In order to compensate for our immoral behaviour, we take drugs to numb our minds from the soul destroying work we are forced to do. Our creativity is stifled in making senseless targets which have to be met so that our particular company yields the biggest profit.

Maddoff, Black, Skilling, Maxwell don’t know when to stop and get caught. Ask someone how rich they want to be and they don’t even know. The relentless, almost manic desire of Jews to get to the top of their chosen profession so that they can exert their will and their values upon nations and people… and the meekness of Christians who follow starts the rot…. and then, we bomb the s**t out of other nations who threaten our core values? We tell them that we love democracy and that we are here so that you may become like us.

The Islamic world awaits, they hardly need do anything as society breaks up from within. They watch as the cleverest scientists are engrossed in making weapons even more effective (destructive), as the most astute bankers cream off profits and threaten the collapse of capitalism, as the smartest politicians bow to the multi nationals desires, as we gorge ourselves with revolting foodstuffs resulting in massive obesity giving way to diabetes, heart disease, strokes, cancer and then we ask doctors to fix us for a price .
Pass me the cocaine!

100% Liberal
Fortunately you have perfectly described the profile of those who voted for B O.

But unfortunately you have also described a large enough % of those who voted against him.

When the obituary of a country which used to be named America is written these things will be added to your list as the things which killed this former Republic.

1. Unchecked GREED.
2. Lawyers and teachers without true ethics or knowledge.
3. Abortion.
4. Allowing the tiny minority composing the sexually confused to dictate a way of life to the other 95%. We are so stupid!
5. Envirtonmental extremism.
6. Racial activism.
7. The nutering of America by the extreme feminist movement.
8. Abandoning the Judeo-Christian heritage.

Read the "Pravda" article about America's plunge into marxism.

A russian actually had the cheek to make fun of us because we were stupid enough to elect a man to lead, who is destrroying the fabric of the nation faster than any of us thought possible. Even those of us who expected it "someday."

grammar, friend, grammar
Anyone who uses the word "irregardless" instantly loses my credibility. Graduate 6th grade, pal, come on...

Another dumb Nigel
Nigel must have gone to one of those DC schools because he doesn't even know irregardless is actually a word. Look it up in the dictionary, its there. So let's see, Nigel believes something that isn't true just because he thinks it is true it must be so. Sounds like Nigel is exactly the prototypical Dumbed Down American about which this article speaks

Words, Just Words
I have heard this word repeated for years and knew it was said to be a 'non-word' and don't use it myself, but have no problem with it.

A smooth talking, (as long as his teleprompter tells him what to say) shuck'n'jive brother with street cred.

Rowly
'Bush did not outright lie to the American people, that I recall'
