Huckabee Was the Inspiration for the Twisted Character in My Novel

Poll
Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

While doing publicity for my new novel “The Apocalypse Directive,” a number of interviewers asked me who served as the inspiration for the Evangelical President of the United States who professes to speak directly to God and so twists his Christian faith, that he is preparing to carry out the most heinous act known to humankind?  Other than stressing that it was not George W. Bush, I mostly left the question unanswered as I moved on to the next subject.

Mike Huckabee’s renewed, juvenile, and un-Christian written assault on former rival Mitt Romney compels me to admit that it was he who served as the inspiration for the evil character.  When is enough, enough for this guy?

In promoting his new book, Huckabee has decided to take Romney to task, not only as a way to settle an old score, but to fire a warning shot across Romney’s bow in preparation for the 2012 Republican primary.  Aside from the fact that we are all desperate for a breather from the just completed election, is this the type of behavior that should be exhibited by a Baptist minister?

According to published reports, Huckabee is still miffed with Mitt because he is successful, because of their past rivalry, and most of all, because Romney did not make a congratulatory phone call after Huckabee’s primary win in Iowa, of which Huckabee writes was “a sign of total disrespect.”

Gee, maybe Romney was just a bit down after the loss and forgot to call.  Or maybe, after Minister Huckabee continually smeared his Mormon faith, Romney saw no reason to be disingenuous with a man who never showed him or his family any respect.

Whatever the real reason, Romney seems to have made the right decision not to call.  At least, based on the fact that Huckabee continues to pile-on the former governor of Massachusetts with lines like, Romney was “anything but conservative until he changed the light bulbs in his chandelier in time to run for president.”

When asked for a response, Romney spokesman Eric Fehrnstrom said Huckabee was acting small.  “This type of pettiness is beneath Mike Huckabee.  If we’re going to move the party forward, we need to offer more than personal recriminations.  Unfortunately, in this book, Mike Huckabee is consumed with presumed slights, and he seems more interested in settling scores than in bringing people together.”

Mr. Fehrnstrom is wrong.  Obviously, it’s not “beneath Mike Huckabee.”  In case he has forgotten, let me remind the Romney spokesman of a Huckabee classic.

On the last day of 2007, this “man of God” decided to hold a news conference to unveil a nasty and negative ad aimed at former Governor Romney.  An unsavory ad that was devised and filmed by Huckabee in the midst of the Christmas holiday.  But wait.  As Huckabee got to the podium to announce the ad campaign, he had a Machiavellian change of heart.  “No,” he decided basically on the spot.  The ad would not run.  Of course, his change of heart had nothing to do with being “Christian” at Christmas-time and everything to do with trying to get the media to do his dirty work for him and run the ad for free.

During that same primary campaign, there were reports that Huckabee told a Pastor that God speaks to him.  In recounting all of this to an Evangelical friend of mine, the friend responded, “The tiny man who runs Iran and wants to wipe the United States and Israel off the face of the earth, also says God speaks to him.  No Christian should use the Lord as a cheap campaign gimmick.”

From that conversation sprung the Huckabee-like character in my novel.  What if an ultra-religious former governor became president and twisted the Christian faith to fit his own demented needs?  How would our nation and the Christian faith react to such blasphemy?

Should he want to read a fictionalized defense of Christianity and religion, I’d be honored to send Mike Huckabee a signed copy of my novel.  Hopefully, he won’t blame Mitt Romney for the hauntingly familiar character.

Spot on...
Thank you for this article. It's good to see that others besides myself see Huckabee for what he really is: a snake-line politician.

Nonsense....
Your entire article is nonsense. You act as though Romney is some kind of angel and Huckabee is the deranged Christian fanatic. You make it sound like his book is all about bashing Mitt Romney and it is not. You would know that if you read it.

If Mike had wrote the book and not addressed the issues surrounding Romney, Thompson, Dobson, and others, you guys would have called him disingenuous and/or a coward.

You and other Romney people keep trying to paint Mike Huckabee as a Preacher or Pastor for the sake of marginalizing him but you fail to mention that he has not been a Pastor for over 20 years. And even when he was a pastor, it wasn't as long as he was served as Governor of Arkansas, which you guys always seem to miss.

I wonder though, why do you always paint Governor Huckabee as a Pastor but refuse to paint Mr. Romney as a Bishop or Stake President. Do you have a double standard to which you judge people or is it just stupidity on your part?

No
it's not judging, on my part anyway, I just didn't like the way Huck partnered with McC to sandbag Mitt, and by doing that sandbagged the other candidates. I never got to choose from the field, when my primary came around. There's a higher standard expected of someone that is Christian, we know them by their fruits. I was never comfortable with Huck and
if the book is anything like it's been reviewed
it is petty. What I saw in one debate was
Mitt taking the hits with grace while McCain and Huck smirked.

Now you are sounding like a liberal
You have stereotypical views. So Romney who supported gay marraige and 50.00 abortions was Mormon-like. He went against his church's views. Did Mike Huckabee turn Arkansas into a theocratic state. I doubt it. Arkansas votes Democratic in its local and state congressional and senate races. It is a state that is 75% democrat and they voted for Huckabee twice. Huck served for 10.5 years. Good Luck trying to win election without the Christian right. They volunteer for your elite snobish party. The GOP is like congress. They say they represent the people but they are at a diconnect. Good luck in 2010 and 2012---A revolt is starting.

I agree
All I can say is that I was so relieved when McCain didn't pick him for his vice-president. I don't think many of Huckabee's followers understand how power and publicity hungry/needy Mike Huckabee is - his actions have shown that repeatedly. Especially when a few days before McCain made his VP pick - he and a few other evangelical leaders basically told McCain that they and their followers wouldn't support him if he picked Romney. It just reeked of self-interest. Huckabee is one of the reasons we have become so divided in the Republican party. And he is using his religion in a twisted way to do it.

One more comment
Romney vetoed the same sex marriage law which was then taken to the Mass. Supreme Court where they overruled him and put it into law. As to the abortions - he changed his mind on that and has since become pro-life - and isn't a huge part of being a Christian mean to be humble enough to realize when we've made mistakes in the past, to repent, to change, and to become a better person? Looks to me that he has done that. And yes, as I've read, he did serve his church in leadership roles, but, unlike Huckabee who was paid for his services, Romney did it without pay, freely giving of his time to serve & minister to those in his congregation, while also working at his "day" job to provide for his family. That's an incredible commitment!

Strongly Disagree
Mr. MacKinnon,
I strongly disagree with your analysis and misrepresentation of Gov. Huckabee. I believe he would have been a great candidate but it was obvious that the press favored McCain and Romney and discounted Gov. Huckabee (eg one of the numerous debates as an example). It is interesting that you can crawl into the man's soul and see all of his motives so as to judge him so completely.
As for Huckabee smearing Mormonism, I have not seen that. Many evangelical Christians view Mormanism as a cult not as a Christian denomination.
If the GOP cannot find their true direction, maybe its time for a Conservative party that represents conservative values. I, for one, am tired of moderates who are more like Democrats than Republicans.
I personally believe that Gov. Huckabee was a successful leader in Arkansas and stayed true to his Christian principles. Sorry you cannot see that.

Huckbots just don't get it
It has nothing to do with Romney. It is all about the petty, mean character of the ugly man Huck.

I see he is now undermining Sarah Palin. He told a joke about her not being vetted, and on his show last week he played a David Letterman clip mocking her.

He has an ugly treak the way he turns on his rivals. What makes me puke is when he uses the words honor, truth, honest, but doesn't live it. Of all the candidates he had the most problems with ethics. For heavens sake, it took a law suit to stop him taking the furniture from the Governors mansion. He's an ugly man with an ugly personality and I wish he would just go away.

And Barbara, I'm Sorry Some Evangelicals
...cannot see beyond Huck's dimples, boyish grin and evangelical-speak. MacKinnon is correct; there is something twisted about Huck--and Mitt brings it to the fore.

Anything dealing with Mitt and Huck becomes envious, snotty, snide, and juvenile. Anything but Christian.

Your blind allegience to Huck and aversion to all things Mormon should keep the Dems in power for another 20+ years.

Huck NEVER misses a chance to diss Mitt; the push to keep Mitt from VP, the rip on Mitt on Huck's first FOX show--and now in the book. It's a very unattractive quality.

It does open the window to his heart. And it ain't pretty.

Some people have speculated that it was Huck people who tried to destroy Palin and blaming Mitt. It's certainly Huck's MO.

Your point of view is hypocritical
I can’t believe that you would make such a big deal out of something so petty! And basing an evil character on Huckabee… You should be ashamed of yourself and look at what YOU are doing to further divide the Republican Party!!! Politicians have to be competitive and will say things that may not always be the nicest against fellow politicians. Negative things are said by ALL candidates in ALL parties. That is just how it works. Did Hillary say bad things about Obama and then turn around and support him? How many awful things have Republicans said about President Bush during this campaign?

Conservatives values are quickly vanishing in our country. We are fighting a very liberal media, education system, and a selfish majority that is against moral values. The only hope we have is to unite Republicans, not further divide them.

I can honestly say that I had no bias towards either MR or MH and both would have made excellent contributions to our county. I may not agree with 100% of everything they stood for, but the good far outweighed the bad. I would support either in 2012!

One thing I will say is that you obviously are not well informed, because Mr. Huckabee was an excellent and well respected governor. He is not the evangelical hypocritical lunatic you make him out to be. Also, he is the only Republican that speaks about proactive, not reactive solutions and he seams to really know what the middle class people are facing. Huckabee spoke out against this worthless bank bailout, because it had no accountability a lot of pork for the tax payers to pay for. Now it is becoming all to clear that he was right. It hasn’t helped the economy, but it certainly opened the door for major businesses to get a government handout at the tax payer’s expense.

Shut UP none of you read the book yet.
"if the book is anything like it is reported.." You guys are lame and objectively retarded. Nothing we hear "reported" is anything like it is. Read the damn book and get back to me. You might still hate him but sheesh. Don't waste our time. Specially you Mackinnon.

wow
Douglas MacKinnon: Needs to get over it.
Romney is the biggest flip flopper since Kerry.
While he was governor of Mass look at all the liberal things that were allowed to take place. Romney needs to give up on the notion of being President.
Romney is a liberal in Republican clothing.
Huckabee is good people.

wahhh
Good grief, McKinnon.

Huckabee had a beef with the way Romney shifted on major issues during his political career and into the primary. Lots of poeple did. You disagree with him and think his accusations are unfair and his methods distasteful. Fine.

But for goodness sake:
1) Read the book first, then make judgments about it. That's generally the way a rational discussion goes.
2) Stop insinuating that a minister is somehow out of bounds if they aren't contrite and sheepish. Jesus cleared the temple of moneylenders in anger. Huckabee is a christian, but he didn't come into this race claiming to have the messianic cure to humanity's ills (in fact, the candidate who did is now president-elect). He's a politician and I have no problem with him going hard after other candidates. Stop whining.

Whatever You Believe About Romney,
....Huck is not "good people" when it comes to Romney. He's just not. His words and actions speak for themselves.

Maybe good politics--chopping competitors off at the knees--but not good people.

And I don't believe it's even good politics. I'm one who liked Huckabee in the begining. But these mean, poor-me attacks on another Republican, after the primaries are long over, reveal a flawed character.

Sure Hill attacked Barack; that's what you do in the primaries. But she isn't attacking him now wahtever her private feelings.

Not so, with Huck. He cannot let it go. It's not just this book; it's a long list. If you don't remember, you haven't been paying attention.

Huck is an attention hog with deep-seated insecurities...a poor ambassador for Christ, IMO.

Open Season on Christians...
Clearly if a politician also professes to be a Christian than there are no limits to what can be said about them (see Sarah Palin).

Huckabee was absolutely without question the most qualified Republican running (see Stacey's comments in Reply #4).

If people took some time to read up on candidates instead of adopting the characterizations provided by tv and talk radio they might actually cast an informed vote.

In Gov Huckabee's book 'From Hope to Higher Ground' you will not only learn what the man has actually done (you know actually achieved something, an 'anti-Obama' if you will) but also what can be done to bring this country back to greatness.

MacKinnon - this is a bitter hack job, cherry picking quotes to support your attack on Gov Huckabee.

I find it laughable that a question regarding actual doctrine of the Mormon faith is reported as 'Mormon-bashing'... if it's true, is it bashing?

Excellant Article
I was an early supporter of Huckabee. Though a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, I was not a Romney supporter because I felt he had changed his positions too frequently. I was impressed with Huckabee's speaking style and most of his positions.

Then I saw the real Huckabee emerge in the primaries. I saw a man who used anti-Mormon push-polling and anti-Mormon rhetoric to rally voters against Romney. No, it wasn't his main argument and it wasn't brought up all the time, but it was enough to show that it wasn't a fluke. If Huckabee had restricted his criticisms to Romney's positions, I think he would have done better. However, his rhetoric turned many away from him permanantly.

In the end, we were left with McCain, who was obviously not the guy we needed in this election. Though I still have problems with Romney, it is obvious to me that he would have been the most competitive candidate to debate Obama on the economy and how to fix it.

Amen, Matthew
Huck's taking cynical advantage of all the anti-Mormonism in Iowa is enough to kill any desire I might have had to see him as president.

This is not a man of honor. He was a man w/o money who had to play the dishonor card to get as far as he did.

And he wants to bad-mouth Romney? Huck is a man of low character and none of his blind supporters on this thread can change Huck's record. His actions speak for themselves.

Huckabilly
Huckabilly wasn't a good choice for the Republican Presidential nomination either. Maybe only slightly better than the RINO that we got. Either would been far safer for the future of our country than the arrogant, socialist-Marxist, anti-American clown who was elected. Mitt Romney is a good business man and a great American Conservative who would been a fine choice for president in 2008. Perhaps in 2012, Americans will have had enough of the leftist government which will ensue from the democrat executive and legislative branches. And then perhaps we'll come to our senses and return to the principles of our founders which have served us so well for over 200 years and have made us the shining light of freedom in the entire world.

So... what happened?
Recurring theme - "I supported Gov Huckabee and then..."

I'll tell you exactly what happened - Ed Rollins.

Chip Saltsman was running a national campaign on a shoestring that was the envy of anyone paying attention. Then somebody decided they needed a DC veteran to run things and it was the beginning of the end.

As stated, Gov Huckabee's appeal was his forthrightness and positive approach. He let Rollins change all that. Joining a long list of politicians that don't truly trust voters, he was convinced he could not win without going on the attack.

While I still carry a great deal of admiration for Gov Huckabee this turn of events was disheartening as it was clear that a) it was not very effective and b) it moved the focus away from positive solutions.

Romney? - I don't trust him any further than I can throw my house.

Umm, ...
... Mr. MacKinnon? I have a question for you. Did you read Gov. Huckabee's book or did you just look over someone else's review of it?

The reason I am asking is that you would have had to read through quite a few pages before coming across any critique of Gov. Romney

Is there anything in your novel about those pages?

Here is what Time Magazine wrote about DO THE RIGHT THING:

"But for all the sharp words Huckabee has for his fellow Republicans, score-settling is not the major thrust of the book, Huckabee's sixth. Rather, Huckabee, who now hosts a weekend show on Fox News, spends most of the pages celebrating the grass-roots success of his surprisingly successful campaign and laying out, again, his vision for the future of the Republican Party, which includes instituting a national sales tax to replace the income tax and renewed focus on health-care prevention and education."

Did any of that make it into your novel, Mr. MacKinnon?

Tadpole
The US has had two "Born-again" Christians at the helm. Both were total failures. I think the GOP would do well to take a pass on the Huckster in 2012, but since Obama will probably win then anyway, might as well throw you second string loser to get wiped up by the Big O and keep your first string for 2016.

Mean Streak
Huckabee's got a huge mean streak that he camouflages with his apparent phony charm. He's a jealous, spiteful man who desperately wants to be President and is now taking the next 4 years to get his face all over the media. His TV show is nothing but a shameless 4-year stump for 2012. Fox - wake up and get him out of there! Why should he get his own show? Why not Giuliani, Romney, and whoever wants to run for Prez?

Mitt is the BEST!
It's about time someone recognizes that Mitt is undeserving of Minister Huckabee's petty, childlike poison he holds for Mitt. This is a big boy challenge, not for the weak and jealous. I personally would not have congratulated him either. He lied coming out of the West Virginia primary saying the wind was behind him, only because John Mccain threw his no chance of winning votes behind Huckabee. Mitt had 47% needed 50%. Went to Florida primary and got slammed with the TIMETABLE lie that did not exist. The Mormon issue is pitiful. How terrible to use this wonderful Christian man's faith against him, by a Baptist minister???? Mr. Huckabee needs to look long and hard in the mirror. Watch out it might just shatter, Huckabee. Thank you for your response in defense of Mitt Romney, we at comMITTed to Romney think the world is truly missing out on this man's leadership, and will do all we can if he choses to run in 2012!!!!!!!

Mitt ,Huck & McCain
I was never a big fan of John McCain, but the worst I ever saw him was at one of the debates. He was so snarky , condescending and nasty towards Romney,I actually felt sorry for him.

Then he and Huck teamed up on Romney. They had a deal between themselves and it was ugly. I like Huck, but not as a candidate. As a comedian.

My candidate was Thompsom,so my feelings towards them had nothing to do with my vote. I voted for McCain in the end. Not for respect, but for the love of my country and he was safer than the opposition.

I didn't trust Huckabee
from the beginning. He seemed more like President Logan from the TV show 24 than a sincere Christian. But anyone who says that God speaks to them is a phony and gives themselves far more credit than they deserve. Besides, today God only speaks through His inspired word, the Bible, and I'm not sure Huckabee is listening on that channel either.

By the way, his Fox show is very annoying.

Mitt Romney Class Act
If Huckabee is the example of Christianity, count me out. Whatever happened to keeping religion out of politics? Huckabee is such a petty, vindictive man and would stoop to any level. Huckabee just needs to be in the spotlight at all times to feed his ego. Makes me think that he must be awfully intimidated by Mitt to stoop to such levels on a continual basis. Sorry, Huckabee is not in the same class as Mitt Romney and I for one wish he would slither back under the rock from which he came. Thank you Douglas MacKinnon for the article.

Governor Huckabee suffered far

more attacks from Governor Romney than he delivered.

McKinnon is a liar. He knows Huckabee never brought up Romney's mormon faith during the primaries.

Morons who believe McKinnon also believed barack obama.

Romney's supporters just can not

take it. They constantly whine like a bunch of big babies.

Thank you Mr. MacKinnon
Huck holds a grudge like a dog with a bone.

Every time Mitt's name is mentioned for any position Huck has to bash him.

If Huck does not have a personal grudge against Romney then I am afraid the motivation is more sinister. He learned in the primaries not to attack Mitt's religion directly. But he may see it as a spiritual calling to take out the Mormon anytime, anywhere.

The only way to test this is to send up another high-profile, successful Latter-Day-Saint for public office and see how Huck reacts.

We who supported Huckabee understand

the fear of those who support other candidates. It is the same fear that inspired the attacks on Governor Palin. It is the fear that their candidates cannot hold a candle to Governors Huckabee and Palin in so far as goes policy and charisma.

They are right to be afraid. However, their fear does not justify the scurrilous character assassinations of the two governors in which they engage.

Sure, Eddie, sure
"Huckabee never brought up Romney's Mormon faith during the primaries."

Huckabee: Do Mormons believe Satan is Jesus' brother?

http://www.npr.org/blogs/news/2007/12/huckabee_to_romney_ar e_jesus_a.html

Mike Huckabee ...
is laughing up a storm over this food fight, if he has even bothered to read any of it or have it reported to him. MacKinnon's slash piece is really a joke, right? It couldn't be funnier if he wrote it as parody. The real give-away line is the eyeball-popping revelation that God (no, not THE God -- yes THAT one) talks to Huck. Of course He does, because Huck talks to Him. It's called P-R-A-Y-E-R. Did I spell that slow 'nuff? Want to have even more of a conniption? It's really the Holy Spirit that does the talking. He talks to me, too. LOL.

Folks, all kidding aside, this is a sad commentary on the total lack of understanding of what Christianity is and isn't today. There are scales over many eyes and a hardness of heart that is very saddening. The Church (the universal body of true believers who understand doctrine as the early church fathers -- those who walked with Jesus or were not far removed from him -- taught it, long ago began embracing anti-intellectualism, to our detriment. These "illuminati" fruitcakes started us on the road to where we have come today.

Mike Huckabee is a decent man who loves God and understands who He is and Whose he is. You cannot hurt him with these attacks. We do need to actually read his book before firing away. Otherwise, you are breaking several of the Ten Commandments.

Huck is not a decent man
Huckabee is a complete fraud of a real christian. Would Jesus attack Romney the way Huckabee has? Isn't jealousy sin? I hope Huckabee repents of his foul ways and learns what humility is.

Eddie too
In order to be fit to carry Huck's jock strap, he must have first have something worthwhile to put in it.

So far, she's showing her true colours as a very petty and very bitter 'man'.

George W. whose hero is Jesus
His behavior almost all trough 8 years have insulted his hero. Yes, making Satan dancing with a smile as never before, now leaving the nation in shambles in every aspect of human values. While murdering thousands for the sake of oil!

My hero remains that of Ron Paul!

CHRISTIANS CAN DISAGREE
THOSE WHO CONGREGATE BUT IGNORE THE TEACHINGS OF JESUS CHRIST THEN YOU ARE DECEIVING YOURSELF.
DECEPTION AND FRAUD IN THE NAME OF PEACE AND UNITY WAS AROUND WHEN THE LORD AND SAVIOR WALKED THE EARTH. GOOD WORKS OF MAN ALWAYS FALL BECAUSE IT IS AGAINST THE WILL OF GOD. SIN IS A
RESULT OF CHRISTIANS TURNING AWAY FROM GODS WILL
IT IS SOMETHING THAT CAN BE REPENTED BUT IS ALWAYS ALIVE THROUGH THE LIGHT OF JESUS FOR THE GLORY OF GOD.IT WHY FALSE WITNESSES ATTACK THE WILL OF GOD.

political laughingstock
Mike Huckabee is a very small man. I think his own mouth and book prove the point. He really has turned into a laughing stock. He has zero credibility. Every time Romney's name comes up, Huck has a knee-jerk reaction that is just laughable and oh so predictable.

Let Me Get this Straight
Mike Huckabee's unchristian assault against Romney? Hardly. Romney gave tacit consent to gay marriage and opened a Pandora's Box that we're still dealing with. He signed $50 abortion into law. He lied about seeing his dad march with MLK Jr. He sounded full of it when he spoke of pulling off to the side of the road to weep when he heard blacks were being accepted by the Mormon church.

It seems the honest and Christian thing to do would be to point out what a snake-oil salesman Romney is. Only the NAALDS Mittwits could get all in a tizzy over the "floating cross" and his declaration that he was a "Christian Leader." Tell me, when Romney said he was a tax cutter, did that mean all the other Republicans weren't? Of course not! But that matters not to the Mittwits, who were certain that such tactics were "bigoted."

Give me a break. Romney's another corporate fat cat who inherited wealth, and has exhibited such a lack of spine on abortion, guns, and gay marriage as to be incredible. Huckabee built himself from the ground up, and fought abortion, fought gun control, and promoted covenant marriage.

One of these guys is a Northeast Liberal hiding in Conservative clothing. The other is a dyed-in-the-wool Conservative.

Stoic: You give yourself away with Mitt.
...and gay marriage. Not even an issue when Mitt was for giving gays civil rights. Who doesn't? Mitt's PAC gave $200,000 to Prop 8. How much did Huck give?

Mitt came out in favor of a US Constitutional Amendment in favor of traditional marriage.

Yes, you indeed need to get your facts straight.

Mountain Girl
Uh, gays already have civil rights. You can't kill them, you can't steal from them, and they have the exact same abilities as any other law-abiding citizen to do as they please within the confines of the law.

As for Prop 8, I find it ironic that for you guys it always come back down to a question of money. His PAC helped fund Prop 8. I commend him for that. However, he was in an immediate position to nip this in the bud as governor of MA, and imitate Andrew Jackson and dare the judiciary to enforce their decision. Instead, he cooperated.

This article is disgusting.
Mike Huckabee wrote a book of 240 pages. Two pages mentioned other people from the 2008 campaign. Many people have asked Mike Huckabee what he had against Mitt Romney; therefore, he tried to explain in this book in a paragraph or two. The rest of the book points to solutions for the success of the Republican Party in the future. Mike Huckabee made a comment in the primary about the Mormon religion, that was a true statement by the way. He apologized to Mitt right away, and he was on Larry King and apologized to the Mormon people. For him to mention Romney in this book has nothing to do with the Mormon faith. For the Rombots to claim that Romney lost because of his religion is just using that for an excuse. People don't trust Mitt Romney because he has changed his positions so many times. When he lived in Utah, he was pro life and against gays. When he ran for the Senate against Ted Kennedy, he was pro-choice and for gays. Even Ted Kennedy said that Romney had no principles and would say anything to be elected. He ran for Gov. and told the Republicans for Gays, that he would be a better friend to gays than Ted Kennedy, and he was. Gay marriage was enacted in Mass (without Romney fighting against it in anyway) during his tenure. Romney even told the judges that they would be fired if they didn't enact gay marriage. This same man two years before the Pres. Primaries is all of the sudden pro-life and against gays. He is not trust-worthy. He will say anything to get elected.

He told McCain as an economic advisor to support the $700 billion bailout. Now he is against the GM bailout, which is good, but people forget that his decision to back the original bailout was not a Conservative position. You can't trust Mitt Romney on anything...another day, another decision, or election 2012!!

Don't believe all the garbage and lies you hear from this author or the Rombots about Mike Huckabee.

The weasel is turning on Palin
Huck is turning on Palin now. Forget the past with Romney. He is turning on Palin now. I saw his last show showing the David Letterman clip of Sarah being blown up. He told a "joke" about Sarah not being vetted. He is trying to make a fool of her because he sees her as a threat.

Huck and the huckbots are fools because he will never be a leader with any standing among conservatives. Huckbots think he is great because he goes to their church but he is not honest, doesn't tell the truth and has no honor. How can they support this weasel who had to have a lawsuit to stop him taking furniture from the Governors mansion. He had more ethics problems than any other GOP candidate. So why do the good huckbots park their brains at the door and support him.

He complains that conservative Christian leaders won't support him. Well he got that one right.

Huckabee - The Classless Act
I'd like to respond first to Jodale who astutely points out that Mitt Romney served as a Bishop and a Stake President for his church. Jodale questioned the difference between this and Huckabee's job as a Pastor, here it is...money. Bishops and Stake Presidents perform all the duties of a full time preacher/pastor. They listen to confession, they look after the members of their congregations (in the case of being Stake President - SEVERAL congregations), they attend meetings, perform marriage ceremonies, funerals, etc. The one thing they don't do is get paid for their work!! They serve because they believe it is their opportunity to serve God. Most of them keep full time jobs in addition to their duties at church. Somehow I can't see Mike Huckabee doing much of anything without getting paid. Another difference between the two is that Mitt Romney never used his Christianity as a means to win votes while Mike Huckabee referred to himself as the "Christian leader" repeatedly AND did what he could to disparage Romneys faith at every turn. Worse than that was feigning ignorance to the Mormon faith after he had spoken at an anti-mormon rally in Salt Lake City. He knew EXACTLY what he was doing. There are a lot of evangelicals out there who have been misled about what Mormons believe and Huckabee played to their ignorance.

To those who continue to call Mitt Romney a flip flopper - you really should do a little research. I have no problem with his changing position on abortion, listen to his reasoning - I believe he is sincere.

Mike Huckabee stokes the fires of class envy - a typical liberal tactic, yet he has the audacity to accuse Romney of not being conservative. I'm sorry that his feelings got hurt when Romney didn't call him but I agree with the author - I wouldn't have either considering the tactics he used to win Iowa. The man is a deceptive jerk, he's vindictive and a little bit scary!

MacKinnon is a classless act
He obviously hasn't read Huckabee's new book.

Because he simply parots a published review. ("according to published accounts".

What this is, is an anti-christian novelist looking to smear people of faith, borrowing form the left's cheap and totally classless bag of tricks. Can anyone say, RINO???

CLASSLESS ACT
YOU SAID A LOT OF BULL

More hate
I understand if everyone is upset with Mike Huckabee. His new book sounds a bit heated and he has made it clear that he doesn't follow Romney's idea of conservatism (a point in which I tend to agree, though maybe not to the same degree as Huckabee). It is well to criticize the man if you feel he is doing more harm than good. But to use him as a model for the anti-christ is ludicrous. We already have a perfect model-a supposedly Christian man who says he is humble but is nothing close to either Christian or humble. What's more is he will soon be our President. Make him the model-he fits better.

Thank you for revealing this...
I have to read your book now! Huckabee has always creeped me out and you put the nail on the head. Blasphemy is the perfect word to describe it. He is obsessed with himself and by his actions, he shows that God doesn't speak to him, but satan. It is satan that is divisive and tempts us to hold grudges, be envious of others and to not forgive. He can't stand Romney, because Romney is so successful and extremely intelligent, and so obviously blessed. Huckabee is obsessed with running in 2012 and Romney has already said it is highly unlikely that he will run again. Huckabee needs to get over himself, everyone else did a long long time ago.

Bashers to the left, bashers to the righ
Has anyone noticed that the Mormons this year have been bashed from the right and left? Romney is blamed for Gay marriage (actually Supreme court mandated it in MA) while contributing $200K to Prop 8. Now Mormons are losing their jobs, having their tires slashed, and sacred edifices vandalized for their support of prop 8, while the Mormons continue to be persecuted by Evangelicals for being "Non-Christian". If you think this will unify the party, think again. I think Mormons would love to find a party that appreciates them and their principled stands. I'm amazed at some of the openly bigoted (and shockingly uninformed) anti-mormon comments above.

MacKinnon is a Classless - READ BOOK 1st
"Or maybe, after Minister Huckabee continually smeared his Mormon faith, Romney saw no reason to be disingenuous with a man who never showed him or his family any respect."

Thanks for stirring a religious war. Catholics, Mormons, and Evangelicals can get along great...just look at the marriage ammendment in California. (where I am from...we can get along great)

Huckabee only said 1 thing about Mormonism and it was a question and the answer to the question is TRUE so how was that a smear? And how is that continual? There is NOTHING else.

Where is your journalistic integrity?
Go read this: http://www.spj.org/ethicscode.asp

You should be ashamed of this divisive piece.

Disgusting piece of writing
As if the creation of a fictional character is somehow definitive of Mike Huckabee!! All MacKinnon is confessing is that he hates Huckabee. And hates him enough to break his radio silence as to who inspired his fictional, twisted, evil, Christian, villain President. What a cheap shot! What a complete lack of integrity for a fiction writer.

I think MacKinnon is fooling himself (and a lot of readers) by telling everyone that Huckabee was his "inspiration". And, oh, that Huckabee has only himself to blame for it, being evil and all. So evil, in fact, that this otherwise noble author MacKinnon would never have pointed his wiggly little finger at him. Oh, please. The only inspiration here is the obvious HATRED MacKinnon has for the man. The man himself is irrelevant to what revelation follows from there.

Furthermore it should be pointed out that MacKinnon is evidently listening to something far more dangerous than the voice of God. At least on this matter he is listening to his own twisted heart without the slightest twinge of a conscience.

Maybe if MacKinnon apologized to Huckabee, God would whisper in Mike's ear and tell him to forgive the guy. But what are the chances of that happening?

The apology, I mean.

A calculated attack from the left
This is a full blown out attack on Mike from the left that has it's roots from the huff post.

This is a very well calculated attack against Huckabee and the republicans. On teamsarah.org here have been multiple forum posts bashing him, I am sure as some feeble attempt to drive a wedge in the republican party. They have even said on teamsarah that Michelle Malkin started this article. I hate to say that, but the left is using our site to advance their agenda and I think it is wrong.

I like Mike, and everything he stands for. This article is spin has no basis in fact. Give me links to factual statements and/or video of what he said, and I might consider this true. But as it stands now, your post seems very trollistic in nature.

HERE IS SOMETHING REVEALING:

This post idea it is almost an exact replica of one I found on the huffington post that was ironically or coincidentally published TODAY. Imagine that! You and the huff post came up with the same news line on the same day. Exactly where do you get your information? It seems, maybe...the huffington post! Your cover is blown, dear republican haters.

Mike Huckabee is a great man, who overcame many obstacles to become the Governor of Arkansas. Obviously, you are not aware of that.

UPCHUCKABIGOT
Huckabee is so bigoted he can't even help himself. He is too stupid to realize that the only thing in his book anyone cares about is the few paragraphs on Romney. Huckabee can barely contain his jealously of everything Romney has: wealth, an education, intelligence . . . a family that weighs less than a 747. Huckabee is a painful reminder that overweight, inbred, redneck, fools still proliferate in the midwest, where they reduce the whole party.

spin, lies, attacks
This is a huff post initiative and spin.

On teamsarah.org, the trolls have come out with the same thing, just different themes.

It is all about bashing huckabee. Why?

Because he is becoming very popular with the conservative group, and the left will try to cut him off at the knees, just like they tried to do with Sarah.

The left is more corrupt than I ever gave them credit for.

Christian Prayer
Dear Mr. MacKinnon,

First of all, let me say that most Christians I know are passing around an email that is asking for prayers for President-elect Obama. They're praying that he will be successful - that he will develop a sensitivity to the lives of the unborn, to the serious dangers our nation faces from enemies abroad, and other things of that nature. There is a recognition that, for whatever reason, God has allowed us to choose for ourselves a president that could be our undoing. And we need to pray for him - and for us.

Recently, Romney proposed some serious ideas regarding the automobile industry bailout - all good ideas, very sensible and probably something most Americans would support. Although I did not support Romney - I thought he was too weak and almost effeminate - here is a man who has brougbt substance to the table, even after being rejected. I may change my mind about supporting him next time around.

But Huckabee? I never thought he had much substance, sorry to say. A good entertainer who was in over his head - similar to the man who will be the next President. What bothered me about him was something small, something telling: his jokes about the birds he shot while hunting. As a sometimes-hunter, I never joke about an animal I'd killed: I offer it my profound respect and thanks, the way some of my ancestors did. Disrespecting the dead is unseemly, and I lost all respect for Governor Huckabee. I hope he will find something else to occupy his time in the next couple of decades, other than politics.

Like his treasonous, recidivist, lying,

Huckabee as model for MAcK book

This Mac kinnon op/ed is an attack on Huckabee as a man for writing a book about the campaign that sees Romney as a victim. Huckabee and Mc Cain were targets of a massive negative ad campaign by Romney mainly on illegals and amnesty during the primary. Romney was a late comer to pro life as he had backed abortion in the past. In fact one ad not run by Huckabee but a conservative group showed Romney in 1994 attacking Reagan and Bush. Others criticized Romney bu tno one ran as many ads attacking opponents as did Romney. As for the Mormon faith, Huckabee did not attack him fo that. Mccain's mother did in an interview say Mormons were coorrupt, maybe about the 2002 Olympics.

How can we win with this...
Wow! I don't often comment on threads like this. It was startling to me to come here, a supposedly conservative blog-site and read the comments.
It is interesting how we can all be "conservatives" and say such awful things about one another! With friends like these who needs enemies, maybe. I could understand if a liberal were taking pot-shots at a Republican, but fellow Republicans saying all sorts of extreme and unkind things, and trying to stir up even more animus?
Most of the Townhall writers seem to be talking about how we conservatives can work together to make our country better.
MacKinnon obviously wants to sell books and make money from taking shots at a very good man who he does not understand. And I think this time TownHall made a very unwise choice to stir up anti-Huckabee sentiments or anti-Romney sentiments. We just do not need this type of diatribe now.

This is what is wrong with America. While conservatives (of whatever religion) are fighting one another, and even stirring up a level of hatred, which it looks like from the comments is coming far more from Romney supporters here than from Huckabee supporters, the liberals will be laughing at our divisiveness -- and WINNING again.
If we want to bring the Devil into this conversation, he must be laughing.

Peevish, Vindictive, and Petty
Until yesterday, I had been neutral on Governor Huckabee. I was neither a supporter nor a detractor. After reading some of Governor Huckabee’s latest comments, I am off the fence.

A man this peevish, vindictive, and petty and should never be allowed anywhere near the presidency.

His outrage over the non-existent phone call may even indicate a pathological condition.

Governor Huckabee is acting like a petulant child! His behavior is very unattractive.

(No! I am not now nor have I ever been a Governor Romney booster.)

Huckabee's ability to Govern
ON the Christian thing, .."by their fruits you will know them".... even the mob is "nice" to some people. Huck is charming and funny, but will use whatever tactic he needs at the moment to get what he wants. I had the opportunity to drive thru Arkansas, the state both he and Clinton governed for sometime. I am quite surprised by the poor roads, terrible rest centers and of course the educational rankings. Coming out of Virginia and Tennessee, it was quite shock. Is that what we really want for out nation? Even at the basest level, we can do much better!

"What if an...
secular-religious former Senator became president and twisted the Christian faith to fit his own demented Islamic needs? How would our nation and the Christian faith react to such blasphemy from an Islamic?"

Looks like we are about to find out.

A Different God?
A new book out titled, "A Different God? Mitt Romney, the Religious Right and the Mormon Question" goes into detail about Huckabee's petty, vicious anti-Mormon attacks against Mitt Romney during the campaign and even after.

It shows the complete lack of Christian love and true moral character Huckabee has. The book is definitely worth reading!

MacKinnion is right!
I'm not afraid to admit that I supported Mitt Romney. I was very upset when he pulled out of the race. I'm a protestant who had no qualms with his Mormon faith. He has faith in God, and that is good enough for me, my Jewish friends have faith in God, they don't believe in Jesus Christ, but they have faith and worship, good enough for me. Thats the faith they were raised with and the key for me is that's their faith.
Mike Huckabee is supposed to be a man of faith, who is supposed to love his fellow man. He is not a very good example as far as I am concerned. It was very obvious to me that he could not hide his hate for Mitt during the entire primary process. He tried to smear him over religious differences, and attacked him unfairly over his wealth and positions. Thats politics, you do what you have to do to win. Someone should tell Huckabee that the election is over now, and continuing this petty smearing is growing old with alot of people. I have never heard Mitt Romney attack Mike Huckabee personally, In fact I thought Mitt handled all the baseless smears being tossed his way with extreme dignity and class, something one would expect from someone with faith and character.

Did anyone here actually ...
... read the criticisms that Gov. Huckabee leveled at Gov. Romney (and all the other GOP contenders) in DO THE RIGHT THING? I've been looking over the comments and I have not yet seen anyone excerpt what was actually written in that book.

I have yet to see one excerpt from the book that takes Gov. Romney to task for his Mormonism. If such a critique was written in the book, can someone please post it?

INSANITY....
Alright people, show me 1 example of Huckabee using Anti-Mormon rhetoric, other than the one interview in which asked about Jesus and Satan being brothers, which he publicly apologized for. Name me one other time. This whole situation is media driven to increase their ratings and you people are giving them the power. The Kool-Aid flows free these days.

WAKE UP!!!

Is that why Trucker's Magazine voted Arkansas as the most improved road system and praised them in several articles? I guess going from 48th best in schools to 8th best is not good enough for you but most would see that as progress compared to most of the country's lack luster performance.

More Romney lies and drivel. I think it might be time for a refill on your Kool-Aid. I am sure Mitt has more.

Huckabee's demeanor and ethics
Coming from Oklahoma, here is a column that sheds more light on Huckabee's irrational anger as governor of Arkansas

http://www.tulsaworld.com/opinion/article.aspx?articleID=20 080126_7_G6_spanc12121

As for ethics, he was investigated by the Arkansas Ethics Commission for pocketing tens of thousands of dollars of campaign money for himself and failing to report it. The commission also found that he failed to disclose tens of thousands of dollars he took from a non-profit, accepted over $100K in gifts, kept furniture from the governor's mansion, and spent state funds to wipe out computer drives in the governor's office when he left.

His career has been in politics or religion. He is a self-dealer who is able to pursuade and charm the gullible and easily blinded into following him. That is what people like him do and how they make their living.

I'm curious...

Did you read the book or are you basing your assumptions on cherry picked quotes taken out of context by a media person with an obvious agenda? People should really take offense that the media is feeding them garbage but then again, people continue to just eat it up or drink it up is probably more accurate.

More Kool-Aid please!

Frankly
The Wimpublicans had no candidate who could even marginally have been made to resemble a conservative. (Not that any of them would want to.) Even GWB managed to mimic conservatism better than any of those guys.

Thanks to the brilliant, genius, oh-so-much-smarter-than-everyone elites in the Wimpublican party (aided by the RATs and the RATmedia), conservatives had no one to vote for - as is shown by the fact that Sen. Tantrum McScamnesty received some millions fewer votes than GWB'04.

Ethics lies....
Huckabee was cleared of any wrong doing in all cases of ethics violations, except for one case. That particular case was later over-turned on appeal. So up until 2008, he was cleared of all ethics complaints, which were filed by Democrats.

This year he was given a written reprimand because of not disclosing donors to a fund, but he had disclosed that list when he was indeed asked to. Even after the list was turned over, no further complaints were filed. So basically he got into trouble for not voluntering to provide the names of donors to a fund before someone asked him for it. Ooooohhh, let's lock him up and throw away the key. He is the evil christian boogey man.

Get a life people.

Neither Huckasham or Romney is the answe
If we are going to move Conservatism forward neither of these guys are right for the job. Romney brougyhtsocialized medicine to MA and Huckabee is no Conservative and loves to raise taxes (I live in AR and have experienced it). I like Huck's fair tax plan, but it can be pushed by a REAL Conservative not Huckasham. Let's get some real Conservatives for 2012 and push real Conservative values and see how we fare.

This is what happens
when one forgets individual liberty. We start voting abortion, gay marriages, smoking, and who knows, next week for lying.

Marriage certificate of the state. A case can be made why not to enter into it as one embraces the state in a threesome. Just one of the issues to think about.

Liberty is not about those things, it is about the freedom of one to have a choice in all those things. Thereby being held accountable to our Creator and not our government.

Oh, for hypocrites. Or is it legalistical religious fathers of old returning.

HUCKABEE IS A POPULIST AND A PHONEY
You are right on Mr. McKinnon. Mike Huckabee struck me as being very disingenuous, petty, and downright un-Christian.

I try not to judge people, but this man put himself out there to be scrutinized and I came away very saddened by his actions/words/pettiness towards the other candidates. No, we do not need a Mike Huckabee in the GOP. I was really flabergasted that he showed up on Fox. I have watched the show and just was left shaking my head.

When will people see this guy for what he is.

Nothing about Willard is genuine
Willard Romney spent millions here in Iowa for 18 months prior to the Iowa Straw Poll and then the Iowa Caucuses. Nothing he did or said was genuine and was documented over and over again making it up. I recall a radio interview where he later said the host set him up with a hidden camera when he moved on to New Hampshire. He knew it was there, a full-size video camera out in the open with the red light on. Iowans detected the phony stands this guy took just prior to running. We didn't properly screen Obama.
http://www.massresistance.com tells much about Willard the actor.
I'm not for the "Open Borders Huckster" either.
We are now the Whig party.

Fruits not souls
My Christ tells me that the Lord will be the Final JUDGE.Is a catholic who voted for a pro-abortion candidate any more "sinfull" than a Person who belongs to a religion that some say is a Cult? Or a southern preacher who uses division and greed to constantly advertise himself? All of the candidates we as conservitives had were not perfect but all could be better than what we have elected. Yes WE elected (HIM).Lets shut up and not judge the souls of people and judge the fruits of thier labor.not by reading or buying "thier books" or supporting thier TV show, but by reading and studying the one Book that means anything. Most of the comments are very judgemental and mean spirited, which to me says that they come from the head and not the heart. If you believe that the BIBLE is GODS WORD and that the fruits of this nation have been a BLESSING FROM GOD you will realize that we must come together. Not by compromise but by the Knowkedge of HIS TRUTH. You know "RIGHT from WRONG". As a firm believer that this country was founded on Judao/Christian Values I think it is time to come together, and do what is RIGHT=(CORRECT),not right as in right wing. This blog attracted me because I felt cheated by candidates and a party that selected Mc.by political manipulations. That was WRONG and all of us know it.The "right" wing must become the Center again. If you dont understand this and would like to let me know and I will blog an explination you might understand.

Yes!!
Wonderful to see that there are those who see through this sham of a "preacher". What about all those investigations into Huckabee's unethical behavior in Arkansas? Talk about breaking one of the TEN COMMANDMENTS, "Thou shalt not swear false witness against one's neighbor".....Remember the "anonymous" mailings in several of the states during the primaries, smearing Mitt and his religion? Oops, we find out....Huckabee's campaign had connections to the cowardly villians.

This guy is a dirty politician and should be kept far far away from the presidency!

GOP equals Guaranteed Old Pettiness
The 2012 campaign for the GOP nomination is on already with the sniping between Huckabee and Romney and their mau-mauers chucking their spears. Why don't they just face off mano-y-mano, say what they have to say, get the personal animosities out of the way and burn, never mind, bury the hatchets?

Why won't they? If they burned their hatchets, petty grips and stopped going personal, they'd have nothing else to offer. Huckabee's yet to explain why he can't disavow his association with the likes of John Hagee, whom I'm not convinced has dropped his anti-Catholicism. And Romney has and will remain an empty-chested man with a hollow head for ideas. No heart for the common working people and no brains when it comes to new ideas, despite all his slick make-overs; such as his supposed "prolife conversion."

I didn't vote for Obama, but I switched back to the Democrats because the GOP keeps offering up more and more hollow candidates. Republican stupidity made Obama look like a world beater. And all they can offer afterwards is more petty bickering.

Mitt Who!!!

Huckabee
Just who do you think you are to demonize Huckabee? Those of us who are believers and take God seriously in our lives know that where will always be those who oppose anything that "smacks of Christian walk". We assess you and your agenda, wondering who you are trying to influence by your novel, thus depicting Mike Huckabee as the devil himself!Making fun of this man and his beliefs shows an intolerance for any other view than your own!

steven
Congrats. you now switched to the new u.s.a The Universe of Saul Alinski

Douglas
If any one got sandbagged it was Mike H. All of the big tlak show hosts ragged him out for months. Most of what they had to say was only partially true. They did a great diservice to this country by taking him out at the knees before we got to see who he really is. I warned people that Romney or McCain would go down in flames just like Bob Dole. Moderates don't have enough difference between themselves and democrats so they don't win. So lets do what people like this Douglas Mackinnon is telling us to do and lean more toward the left and not win another election for 40 years. We at that time may have to fight another Revolution to take back our country.

Are you a true believer in Jesus Christ?
Sir, If you were a born-again Christian, saved only by the grace of God through His One and Only Son Jesus Christ's death on a cruel cross, and his resurrection from the dead; and his living in Heaven, now, as an intermediary for all who believe in Him; and, if you then had God's Holy Spirit living within you, and you were truly walking IN the Lord, then you would also have God speaking to you-- personally. It's not an audible voice, but one that you hear within your revived spirit. The fact that you disbelieve Gov. Huckabee about his "hearing God" speaks more about your own non-relationship with our Heavenly Father!!!

X Romney Supporter
Douglas, Look, I was a big Romney Supporter but I seen something said about his record as a Governor so I looked it up and the things I found out shocked me, I was nobody told what all he did? It turns my stomach. I will never support Romney again. Do yourself a favor and look up his Record, otherwise taking up for him just makes you look bad.

Wrong Way!!
By reading Mackinnon's article it's obvious that if we are starting this pro Romney push directly after the rear-end beating we just witnessed then we are going the wrong way. If Mackinnon, Hugh Hewit, Loria Ingrahm and others start pushing this guy on us again conserivitives will get their rear-end kicked again. Romney was rejected because he has 0 convictions. Or if he does have convictions they change when the need calls for it. He's a nice guy, good husband and provider but not a president. We need to be looking at new blood. Palin, Jindal, or others that maybe we don't even know of yet.

Christians
Do Christians believe that God speaks to them? Yes, His voice speaks through the Holy Spirit. Do Christians believe that Mormonism is not Christian at all? Yes, mostly because of their beliefs about the bible and Christ.

These are legitimate statements based on one's own belief system. Last I checked, this country was founded on freedom of religion, not necessarily AGREEMENT of religious practice. I am a Christian, but I recognize that not all are or will become Christians. If a Muslim rejects Christianity then that remains their right and I am not offended by their rejection or characterization, especially if I feel it to be untrue.

I have to say that if one wishes to reject Huckabee, let it be on the same policy positions by which one accepts another candidate. This demonstrates more thoughtful consideration than rejection for religious belief.

Wrong Way!!
Mackinnon, Hugh Hewit, Loria Ingrahm, and others need to stop pushing Romney on us. We rejected him once and we will reject him a second time if he runs. We got our rear-ends kicked because the concervitives were not listened to. If we push Romney again we will get out rear-ends kicked agian. Romney is a nice guy, good provider but not a president. He has no convictions that last. If he has convictions about anything just wait 2 or 3 years and they will change. We need to look to new blood, Palin, Jindal, Newt, or others that we maybe don't even know of. A new Reagan that is unkown but is warming up in the bull pin.

try to elect
anyone as a conservitive without evangelicals outside of utah. reagan would not have been elected without the evangelical vote .the double standard of the romneyites will destroy the party

Divided We Fail
We don't need the left and the media to attack us we have people within our own ranks to do their dirty work. When is it wrong to disagree with Romney and have an opinion that may not line up with your own.

Why is someone's faith called into question when you don't agree with their positions? I don't ever recall anyone questioning Thompson, Guliani or McCain's faith when disagreeing with them or statements they made.

Huckabee is a straight shooter and will fire out his thoughts, agree or not with him. Because he made some statements about Mitt doesn't make him unchristian, faith has nothing to do with it! This is not a matter of faith but a matter of opinion. Sorry Mike's opinion frustrated you, but don't ever question his faith because of it!!

it's plain the republican inteeligentsia
don't want us !let them get romney elected with out us then !!

Something to think about....
when speaking of Christians........from C.S. Lewis:

"Lewis wrote his book Miracles in 1947, before most Christians were aware of the emerging philosophy of naturalism, which says that there is a naturalistic explanation for everything in the universe.

Naturalism undercuts any objective morality, opening a door to tyranny. In The Abolition of Man, Lewis warned that naturalism turns human beings into objects to be controlled and turns values into "mere natural phenomena" that can be selected and inculcated into a passive population by powerful Conditioners. He predicted a time when those who want to remold human nature "will be armed with the powers of an omnicompetent state and an irresistible scientific technique."

Sound familiar?

Pleeeease
Tell me this isn't a nightmare scenario.

There are lots of us who could never support Huckabee and there are lots of others who would never support Romney.

Please get Huckabee off his soapbox presidential pre-campaign on Fox.

MacKinnon book
The Huckster is just that. Snakey. From swipes during the primary debates to teaming up with Juan McCain after Mitt won in WV, to running that Letterman clip of Palin (uncalled for), he's not someone I'd be proud to support.

How important are Governors Huckabee

and Palin to America? Read and observe the tactics of their detractors.

Are these tactics the types used by opponents acting in good faith?

While both Governors have made mistakes (as has every politician), they are clearly not the evil villans their irrational detractors display.

Something in both of them strike fear into the hearts of some of their opponents. I think it is their ability to make contact with people. It is a rare gift in politicians and for the GOP to have two (maybe even three with Jindal) available for national office bodes well for its future.

The trouble is that politicians, including Romney, always seem to have these "moral epiphanies" in just the right way to advance their political careers. Which makes you really doubt their sincerity.

Romney was pro-life before he ran for Senator of Massachusetts.

Then when he ran for Senator and debated Kerry, he said he was against overturning Roe v. Wade.

Then when he ran for President, he said he was pro-life again.

Just once, I would like to see a politician have a "moral epiphany" on a deep moral issue in a way that actually HURTS his political career.

Mitt against the rest
I agree with TEA PARTY and others; You'd think that Huckabee would use this time and his new show on FNews to better advantage. This book and his TV interviews just serve to make conservatives revisit Huck's unChristian behavior toward a fellow Republican and Christian (of a different flavor). Why was it the moderates: Giuliani, McCain and Huckabee that joined forces against Mitt? Why did Giuliani, realizing he was out of the race, scurry to the McCain camp after SC, and say, "How do we stop him?" The "him" meant Romney. Mitt Romney is heads and shoulders above the other Reps. If he had been the nominee, the electorate would have had a clear choice. I hope and pray that it is Romney vs. Obama in 2012.

That all depends how Obama performs in his first term. If he ends up like Jimmy Carter, with an approval rating comparable to Bush's, then the GOP should put their best candidate forward in 2012. Otherwise, I agree with you, they should punt in 2012.

I vote Libertarian at every opportunity, and I voted for Barr in the most recent election. However, I voted for Huckabee in the VA primaries, in spite of his social conservative positions, for the following reasons:

#1 - He was the only candidate of any consequence who supported the FairTax. Giuliani and Romney (the other two former executives in the race) both dismissed the FairTax out of hand and revealed by their answers on the topic that they had not even bothered to give it serious consideration.

#2 - He had been a successful governor (chief executive) for over 10 years in a state with a Democratic legislature and still managed to leave the state in better fiscal shape than when he took the job, while improving the social services and infrastructure (which as a Libertarian is where I believe those issues should be addressed - at the state and local levels).

#3 - He is head-and-shoulders better in front of a crowd or camera than all the rest - including Fred Thompson. One of Bush's greatest short comings has been his inability to successfully make the case for his positions. Huckabee would not have that liability.

Because I was pulling for Huckabee for the above reasons, I was quite tuned in to the fire he was drawing from his competitors. And from my perspective, it was Romney who took the most cheap shots and came off as campaigning mostly in the negative. Had he stayed above the fray and run on his executive credentials with a clear vision for what he wanted to do, he might have done better. But he seemed to miss no opportunity to slam and mis-characterize Huckabee's positions and record. So, I think Romney gave as good as he got.

I look forward to reading Huckabee's book. I don't think I'll bother with MacKinnon's.

You don't have to look very far for that. Let me give you an example from someone you should be familiar with from MA. His name is Mitt Romney. Go back and review what was said about Romney in the primaries. I saw numerous newspaper articles and blog posts which said they couldn't support Romney because of his faith. Many said his chances at the presidency would greatly improve if he would just renounce his faith like Kerry had done. Instead of renouncing his faith, he went to Texas and gave an excellent speech on faith.

Huckaphony
He's creep.

Huckster
I remain furious with Huckabee for serving as a hit man for the southern Baptists, who will not accept anyone whose theology is not consistent with theirs. I know these people, from my years in Alabama, and they believe that Catholics are not Christian, and they ridicule Methodists, which is my denomination. I am a social values and fiscal conservative, but I'm sickened by the faith test administered to Romney... Time and Newsweek cover stories about Mormonism as a cult, TV documentaries portraying Mormons as murderers...As a result, I have two PHD non-religious friends who told me at an election Eve party, " But Mormons have all those wives!" Just ignorant.
Mormons are the most successful religious group in America with the least incidence of social pathologies, the strongest families, and the highest incomes. (That's as a statistical group, so bigots, please don't write about some dissolute Mormon you know who is not devout and doesn't follow the strictures of his church.) As a teacher in Virginia, I was thrilled to have LDS students--respectful, talented, bright and ambitious. Romney has an awesome resume and not a bone in his closet, much less a skeleton. After an in-depth interview, he was characterized as "incandescently bright" by one NY Times reporter. I supported Romney too late, and I'm sorry for that. I surmised that he was too perfect for the general public to warm to, and that they would think he's a phoney, because no one can be that wholesome. Maybe so. Maybe a candidate needs a history of cocaine use and bad grades after affirmative action generosity, an angry, unpatriotic wife, and a host of thugs and felons as pals to be accepted by contemporary voters. Don't know. I just know that Huckabee set about to deprive Republicans of our most qualified and attractive candidate, and he seems poised to to be re-dedicate himself to the same agenda for 2012. Sickening.

Congratulations Galltelfa
You and I have something in common. We both voted for a candidate for president that lost. I'm glad to hear your opinion. Here's mine on a couple of the things you mentioned.

Flat tax - oh puleeze, every election some candidate promises to get rid of the evil IRS and replace them with a Fair tax, Flat Tax, VAT, etc. It never goes anywhere. Congress doesn't want to give up the power to give tax breaks to their contributors.

2. We have very different views about who is the best on camera. The two that in my mind that stood out in the debates were Giuliani and Romney. Huckabee to me was just one of the crowd. He seemed likeable but not that impressive. At times on Fox I have seen the pettiness and vindictiveness mentioned by others. On the positive side, I thought he gave a good speech at the convention this summer.

Methodist
Why would any christian rip on a methodist? Is it because they wrongly believe that mormons are christian? Maybe, maybe not. It's probably a little more. Its probably because ANYONE who isn't faithful to God's Word as revealed in the bible either doesn't know it or knowingly contradicts it. Either choice doesn't glorify God.

Even before his book
I felt Huckabee was petty in the way he acted during the debates. I am sorry to see Fox has him doing a program (which I will not watch.)

Ind Observer
Yes, if you take a defeatist attitude on a policy change you will certainly be defeated. I am a member of the Americans For Fair Taxation (FairTax.org) and this is a key issue for me. Most of the pioneers in modern history were the people who ignored the conventional wisdom that "it" couldn't be done. Columbus and Bill Gates immediately spring to mind. And if memory serves, although a little cloudy, Ronald Reagan (reviving a JFK theme) suggested that lowering tax rates would increase tax revenues and calling the Soviet Union out in front of the world would bring about their demise. I believe he was right on both counts.

So, if you are willing to settle for the IRS continuing to terrorize the American citizen and allow congress to further limit our freedoms through the tax code, you go right ahead. In the meantime, I'll be doing what I can to bring about real change - a return to individual responsibility and liberty - by supporting the FairTax.

Had Romney supported the FairTax he could have had my vote. Also, he might have won Iowa, where the FairTax folks all got behind Huckabee. Hard to say how many votes that was, but they were being brought in in busloads.

"Its probably because ANYONE who isn't faithful to God's Word as revealed in the bible either doesn't know it or knowingly contradicts it. Either choice doesn't glorify God."
Amen to that!
And I disagree with MacKinnon on this one. While, yes, Huckabee was being a little petty, he has it right on about Mormons not being Christians. They are polytheists, believing in many gods, not monotheists, belief in one and polytheism contradicts the Word of God. And NOW is the time to STOP uniting with the ungodly, immoral's, compromisers, Bible misinterpreters, and lukewarm's and start taking a bold, hard stand against them and their agenda to make the church a melting pot for all beliefs and lifestyles. Methodists, for instance, are accepting of homosexuals and their lifestyles while the Bible states clearly it is an abomination to God. WAKE UP PEOPLE!

Huckabee
In all probability the only reason McCain was able to secure the Republican nomination was Huckabee staying in the race. Even though he was out of it he remained in just so he could scuttle Romney's chances, which he did.
You have to wonder how the elction would have been different if the Huckster had got out when he should have.

Beth
Just out of curiosity, exactly what segment of the American public is not by your definition "the ungodly, immoral's, compromisers, Bible misinterpreters, and lukewarm's"? If there are enough of these righteous people to make a go of it without teaming up with the rest of us heathens, why haven't they already selected a winning candidate?

Galltegfa
Unfortunately there aren't enough of us that are NOT in one of those categories. That's the problem America faces. The majority of so-called "Christians" have turned away from the Bible and the God of Israel and followed after the lusts of their own flesh and the strange gods of this world. It isn't a matter of whether a Republican or Democratic Party runs this country, it's a matter of Biblical morality verses self-morality. America doesn't have a political problem, it has a moral and spiritual one. Ohhhhh, I feel a BLOG coming on! LOL!

Galltegfa
Sorry I got your name wrong last time. If you love the fair tax, good for you. Being pragmatic, I highly doubt it will ever happen. My business is defending taxpayers who are being "terrorized by the IRS" Thanks to the IRS, my business is still flourishing. Every year congress passes tax law changes which confuse the public and make my services more valuable. Imagine that, I have never donated a penny to a political candidate but congress keeps my business going strong.

If the day ever comes that we can find a congress that is more interested in the country than their own selfish agendas, the fair tax might get some traction. If that happens, I will find a new career. However, as it stands I'm afraid I will have a lot of disappointed customers if I eventually retire.

It's been nice chatting, but I've got to run. I've got a few cases to finish up today. Good luck.

Ind Observer
(Should you revisit the board later on): You clearly have a disincentive for seeing the FairTax pass, so it comes as no surprise that are comfortable with the Status Quo. You'll have to forgive me if I do my best to facilitate your finding a new line of work.

Attacked his Mormon Faith??
When? Where? I remember a reporter asking him once what he thought of Romney's religion and Mike admitted that he didn't know very much about it, but said "don't they believe Jesus and Satin are brothers?" And if you know anything about Mormonism, that is exactly what they believe. Jesus and Lucifer are the elder brothers to all of us. So someone please give me an example of Huckabee attacking Romney's religion.

Beth
And which Christian denomination do you suppose is actually reading the Bible correctly? Which translation are they using? Which divinity school do their ministers attend? If their take on things is so clearly the correct one, why are they having such a difficult time proving their position? Why can't all the different Christian organizations get their heads together and arrive at some consensus on what the final truth is? If all of these people are praying for direction, why aren't they all hearing the same answer? I'm confused.

Blame Huckabee for Obama's victory
OK, so you didn't like Romney, so I hope you love Obama, because that's what you got because your messianic-complex Huckabee edged him off the road. Hope you like Muslims better than Mormons, because that's who funded most of Obama's campaign. Hope you love infanticide, because that's what Obama supports. Hope you support all manner of peculiar marriages, euthanasia and stealing from working people to give to deadbeats. Hope you are OK with bailing out incompetent CEO's who have the "good taste" to use YOUR tax money to take luxury vacations and arrive in their private luxury jets with their tin cups to beg for YOUR money from the Congress. Hope you agree that if you live frugally, stay in school, marry the other parent of your kids you should be polite to indigent spendthrifts who breed like rabbits at YOUR expense. That's the agenda of the left, and if you don't believe it, take a trip to Europe, especially Scandinavia, where it is politically incorrect to excel in school or at work because it makes others "feel bad." Buy gold, because your dollars, your retirement is going to buy less as the government waters down the value of our currency. Those of you who paid your mortgage dutifully are going to chip in to bail out those who played like the grasshopper in the fable. The new wisdom is that grasshoppers are cool and the hard working ant is a fool.

Thank You
To all of you Huckabilly's out there whom we can thank for providing us with President elect Hussein Obama!
Your devotion to a man bereft of many of the Christian values he espouses are what we can attribute the coming 4 years of a socialist president. I hope are truly proud and thankful for that which lies ahead for our country. Had it not been for Pastor Mike, we may have actually had an man (Romney) that could led us out of the economic mess we are in. Now we have a socialist president to reek havoc and Mikey on TV. What could be better!

Gee, no 11th commandment issues here! :p
...I just hope the personality conflicts get out of the way soon while the real discussions and debated on the directions of the conservative movement begin.

Exactly what in my post is a bold faced lie that I should be ashamed of???? Those were my personal feelings and observations, my beliefs regarding an issue. You may not agree with them...thats ok... but you are way out of line with your response dude! You ask for just one example of Huckabee questioning the Mormon faith and then you give an example of exactly that. He apologized for it yes, but was it necessary for him to question faith during a campaign in the first place? That wasn't media driven, those were Huckabee's own words out of Huckabees own mouth! So now... who's drinking the Kool-Aid??

Huckabee doesn't deserve to lead
His conduct has been unbecoming of a leader of a conservative party.

Romney can't ever be a cradle-to-grave conservative. Before he actually took on the responsibility to govern he was unwilling to take a political stand against abortion and many other social evils. He was a "keep it at church" moralist. When he got in behind the Governor's desk in Massachusetts he had to take responsibility for government policy.

When the chips were down Mitt said, "Not in my name," and refused to put his name to the expansion of the Pro-Abortion agenda. He drew a pro-life line in the sand and never looked back.

He opposed Same-Sex "marriage" in Massachusetts, but previous governors had appointed unworthy justices who overruled him. All he could've done at that point was martyr himself over the issue by refusing to allow the Executive Branch to issue same-sex marriage licenses. Then the Democrat Super-majority in Congress would have impeached him for failure to execute his duties as governor.

Anyone who tries to blame Romney for Massachusetts without ever pointing out that the Democratic Party in MA had more than enough votes to override his veto at any time is being either ignorant or disingenuous. People who give a pass to the Socialist Democrats that run MA simply because they have to find an excuse to attack Romney - these kinds of people worse RINOs and CINOs than Romney ~used~ to be.

President Charles Logan
Huckaphony has always reminded me of this creep from the "24" TV series.

What the...
RINO's striking again here I see. I have read many of Huckabee's works and watch his show regularly and I have seen NOT a single instance of this character trait you, Douglas, bestow upon him. Huckabee, like so many of us, is human and capable of faux paux or missteps, but to be portrayed by you as juvenile, ill willed snake in the grass only serves to show your true colors. Huckabee is a REAL conservative republican and not some wishy washy RINO Democrat wanna be. You've just lost a reader! NOW GET BACK TO WORK!! Millions of illegal immigrants on welfare are depending on you!! ALL HAIL THE HIGH LORD CHAIR MAOBAMA!!

Galltegfa
It isn't about any particular denomination having it "right". It is about those who, irregardless of their denominational affiliation, take a stand for what is actually written in THE BIBLE in black and white. Homosexuality is called an abomination - don't think that needs further interpretation. Murder of the innocent (which is what abortion is!), theft, adultery, lying, greed, malice, deceit, indecency, envy, slander, arrogance, and foolishness are all listed as wickedness. God's Word is CLEAR when it comes to morality and there is NO NEED for interpretation about these issues.

Arkansas citizen that has had ENOUGH
I lived under Governor Huckabee in Arkansas for all those long years. I am truly ashamed to think of it now, but I voted for him. Boy was I an idiot. I voted as a loyal republican and conservative, believing that he was the right conservative choice for our state. As his terms went on I came to deeply regret my votes. He is at heart a liberal on many issues, maybe not on social issues (which are very important to me), but on all the others. He ruled as a liberal with big government his pet theme. When he ran for President I was sure that people would see through him. All too many people looked at his 'christian' credentials and jumped on his bandwagon. Many still blindly hang on. I guess they just don't understand that a man cannot honestly claim to be a conservative while at the same time planning to expand government in program after program.
Since my eyes were opened, I have come to recognize the huge ego and power hungry soul of Mike Huckabee. Don't trust him. Please! He is one who's words may cry "Lord, Lord" but his heart is far from him. He is out for his own glory. There is soooooo much evidence of this.
Most of the people, by far, that I know here in Arkansas refused to vote for him for President. To us he is a joke that has insinuated itself onto the national stage. We're not laughing.

interesting
as a Christian liberal i would have voted for him.

he certainly is better grounded in his beliefs than palin.

Beth
If all these things are so clear, why are there so many differing opinions on whether they are immoral? Are some more wicked than others? I don't suppose you'd put arrogance and foolishness on a par with murder of the innocent, would you? And what about murder of the not-so-innocent? Who gets to decide where to draw the line on that? Are you opposed to homosexual thoughts and tendencies, or just the actual act, or is it when two homosexuals wish to marry? Aren't we all tempted by the "wickedness" you listed? And how do you know when you've crossed the line? For example, how do we know when we're only looking out for our own best interests versus when are we being greedy, arrogant, malicious, etc? I'm just not so sure this is as cut-and-dried as your post suggests you think it is.

Hmmm
This article makes no sense. Perhaps there are two Mike Huckabees because the convoluted picture that the author paints of Huckabee is nothing like the man I voted for or see in the media everyday. Huckabee is the new voice of the conservative movement. Perhaps the author is just jealous that the new mover and shaker is not his chosen one.

A lot of people just don't pay attention
but some of us do.

Interesting , Huck.
I wanted to vote for Huck , but my Christian
beliefs would not let me. I want a Pres. whom will do what is right ,not what is Acceptable.
I want a Pres. that believes in the Constitution
and Free Capitalistic Trade . Fair and Equal.
Preachers should stay home and preach. God will take care of his people, He always has and He
always will.

Mormon? or Christian?
The only comments I remember Mike Huckabee making during the campaign is when Mitt Romney kept referring to his "Christian faith" and Mike Huckabee, the only one to do so, corrected him, as he should. Huckabee said that Mormonism is not part of the Christian faith... and he was/is correct!

Patricia
I'm not a member, I was raised Episcopalian, but the official title of the Mormon church is "Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints." I suspect they think they're Christians. Who gets to decide? Using what criteria?

huckabee mackinnon is right
huckabee was and is jealous of romney.huckabee should be ashamed of what he said and acted during the campaign. there isnt anthing christian about him then or now. huckabee is so full of himself he doesnt realize or does he? that romney was a threat to winning not only the nomination but the presidency so with the help of huckabee the msm managed to get him out of the race for he was a threat to their messiah bho. msm should be given credit for huckabee lasting as long as he did in the race coz he wuz just so cute and funny. huckabees still afraid of romney or he wouldnt be trashing him now in his book. thats a good repub for you.after the nomination romney campaigned and spoke for mccain like repubs should be doing not bashing. romney would have and will make a great president.

good plot- wrong role model
So Doug, are you over reacting to Huckabee's alledged actions to promote sales of your own book or not???
You have a pretty good prophetic story in the works.. but I think you picked the wrong man for the star role.. This role rightfully belongs to Barack HUSSEIN Obama...Barack is difinately the man who has come posing as a Christian while he blasphemes Christian ministers, the Bible and Jesus...Meanwhile he subtilely brainwashes the masses into believing he is the messiah or the return of Jesus..I am inclined to believe as Farrakhan does, he is the return of a messiah for sure but not Jeus.. He is the return of Monammed complete with the prophecied name HUSSEIN that Mo. said he would bear in his return..
Jesus said I am He that was alive and was dead and am alive foreever more.
The beast who counterfeits Jesus is the one WHO WAS, and IS NOT and YET IS.-Rev. 17:8..Translated, this means Mohammed who WAS (alive) and IS NOT (alive) and YET IS means (he has returned ).
Far out??? Not nearly as far out as portraying Huckabee a gentle and honorable mas as the monster you protray him to be..

Galltegfa
A sin is a sin. There are no varying degrees of sin, so yes, all these things listed are equally unrighteous and immoral. People don't agree on immorality listed in the Word because they are either ignorant of it or want to add their own spin on it to suit their own selfish and lustful agenda. And yes, it is as cut and dry as I have stated. True, we are ALL tempted, but temptation is not a sin. It is when we act upon those temptations that it becomes a sin. And God says there is no temptation that we face that He has not given us a way to escape from. The choice is ours to reject it or dwell upon it and thus take action after it has taken deep root! 1 Corinthians 10:13 says "No temptation has seized you beyond what people normally experience, and God can be trusted not to allow you to be tempted beyond what you can bear. On the contrary, along with the temptation he will also provide the way out, so that you will be able to endure." James 1:12 - 15 says "(12) How blessed is the man who perseveres through temptation! For after he has passed the test, he will receive as his crown the Life which God has promised to those who love Him. (13) No one being tempted should say, "I am being tempted by God." For God cannot be tempted by evil, and God himself tempts no one. (14) Rather, each person is being tempted whenever he is being dragged off and enticed by the bait of his own desire. (15) Then, having conceived, the desire gives birth to sin; and when sin is fully grown, it gives birth to death."

Galltegfa (cont)
The good news is that there is a way to be forgiven even if we do give in to those temptations! 1 John 2:1 says "My children, I am writing you these things so that you won't sin. But if anyone does sin, we have Jesus the Messiah, the Righteous, who pleads our cause with the Father." He pleads our cause for us because He was and is our atonement, our sacrificial Lamb. If we repent of our sins and accept Him as Lord and Savior, He pleads our cause for us to God if we in our weakness give in to our temptation and sin. Of course, this also does NOT give us a license to keep on sinning. Repentance means to "turn away from". So we turn away from our sins. But we, in our humanity, despite our best efforts, will sometimes still commit sin. By grace, we can go to God and ask for forgiveness through Jesus and be saved from the penalty of death required as the price for sin! Praise God!

So, God punishes the weak (those who give into temptation and are too fearful to ask forgiveness)? That sounds like natural selection.

Galltegfa
God doesn't punish the weak! He doesn't punish anyone, actually. People seal their OWN fate by choosing sin over what God commands as righteousness. A person can be what is perceived by the world to be weak and mousey yet still choose to do the right things according to God's Word. This ISN'T natural selection (we are not brute beasts driven by instinct!), this is God loving His children so much that He has even given them free will to choose their own destiny, whether that be unto death or life. May God bless you, Galltegfa!

Get a life MacKinnon!
You wouldn't know what conservatism is if it hit you between the eyes! You're obviously a social liberal. You and Romney both lack moral judgement - period. What facts did Mitt not have at his disposal about infanticide before he decided it was morally wrong? Maybe he thought babies weren't human till after birth. Why didn't he take a stand against the militant homosexual agenda if he has a biblical world view? I think getting votes were more important than principle to him. Don't get me wrong, I respect Mitt for his intellectual abilities, but I don't believe he's a man of deep convictions no matter how religious he may seem. The social conservative base is the moral compass of the republican party and it's a shame that amoral republican pundits that have very little understanding of Christianity or our nation's historical values are given a platform to spew their miserable opinions.

MacKinnon Condemns HIMSELF!!
So let me get this right. MacKinnon is now justified to trash Huckabee but condemn Huckabee for it?

This guy obviously had drying wet leather underwear for Huckabee all along and a thing for Mitt!!

Never mind the Mitt forces that have brutally gone after Palin and the Mitt forces that EVERY other campaign new played dirty. Of course THAT wasnt' portrayed by such a balanced jouranlistic moralist like MacKinnon!!

I agree Huckabee made a SERIOUS error in the commercial he showed - but did not run on Romney. I chalk that up to growing as a politician. But did you SEE the subsntance of the commercial?? IT WAS RIGHT ON!!! Romney DID horrible things to nearly every candidate.

It looks like the swooning and fawning in the Democratic circles for Obama started with the Romney Kool-Aid drinkers!

Christian does not equal push over. Jesus cleared the temple with a whip. Quit using your bigotry toward the religious as a political arguing point.

Huckabee NEVER did.

Douglas MacKinnon the Pharisee
Wow, talk about juvenile and un-christian, how about pulling that plank from your own eye, Douglas?

It's quite obvious from your distorted recounting of the primary season that you were a pro-Romney and anti-Huckabee guy from the beginning. I'm not going to defend every last word and action of Huckabee, but Romney's behavior during the primary was frankly atrocious and unbecoming. He repeatedly lied about Huckabee and was often able to get away with it due to his financial advantage. Huckabee never attacked Romney's faith (though as a freely chosen belief system, I fail to see why a candidate's faith is totally irrelevant in assessing their character, judgment, and leadership potential -- I bet you wouldn't be too keen on a druid candidate, for example).

Nothing in Huckabee's record in politics suggests he is anything like the nutjob character in your book -- which makes you the juvenile and un-christian lout you attack Huckabee for being.

Beth
You lost me. If someone commits a sin and does not repent, he dies. But if he repents his sin(s) to Jesus, Jesus will plead the sinner's case to God the Father, and the sinner will be forgiven and will enjoy eternal life.

But, if the sinner is weak, gives into temptation, and is too ashamed and/or fearful to ask Jesus to ask God the Father to forgive the sinner, then consequently dies, how is that not punishment on the part of God the Father towards the weak?

Does God the Father decide who lives and dies, or doesn't He? If He doesn't, why is Jesus acting as the intermediary on behalf of the sinner? Why must one have Jesus appeal to God the Father for the sinner's life if God the Father doesn't have the final word?

I'm still confused.

God requires payment for sin. That payment is death. He loves us, but is 100% righteous & holy and will allow nothing short of that into His kingdom. We are made righteous & holy through the blood of Christ. All throughout the Bible, a blood sacrifice was required as penalty for sins. Jesus was our blood sacrifice once for all time. Fear & shame come from knowing we did something wrong and can be a catalyst for repentance. But if a person allows fear & shame to keep them from ever repenting, then yes, if they die in their unrepentant sinful state, they will suffer the penalty. If you don't like that answer, argue with God, not me. I just am telling you what His Word says & what He requires of those who say they follow Him.

Spiteful Huckabee
Huckabee seem so spiteful, mean-spirited and full of himself during the primary that I can't even watch his TV show. He was my least favorite candidate in the Republican primary and it had nothing to do with religion - his or Romney's.

Utah Vote for Romney
For those who say Mormons are bigoted because Utah went 97% for Romney - think about who their choices were at the time! There was John McCain (who most agree is RINO), Mike Huckabee (a man who preached at an anti-mormon rally in Salt Lakebut pretended "not to know much" about Mormons...oh really Mike?), and Mitt Romney - the most conservative of the three and a man who they can relate to. I don't think they were bigoted at all for voting overwhelmingly for Romney. They were just smart.

Huckabee's Religion Didn't Inspire
I'm a conservative Christian from the south, the type of guy who was supposed to vote for Governor Huckabee, but I didn't. I voted for Governor Romney because I felt he was the most conservative candidate at the time and the one who had the best shot at beating McCain. A lot of my friends jumped on the Huckabee bandwagon because of his outspoken Christianity. I didn't buy it. One reason was his attacks on Romney. I thought it was disingenuous of Huckabee to claim to be a Christian and make the snide attacks against Romney. It seemed to me that Huckabee really should have been attacking McCain instead since that's who he should have had more differences with.

McCain couldn't win the South, but Huckabee could keep Romney from winning. Divide and conquer - that gives us McCain for the nominee. But my Christian brethren didn't see it that way, so now we have what we have.

Advice for Beth
Instead of complaining about the course this country is taking because of lack of your definition of true Christians, why don't you follow the example recently set in CA. Members of the churches you have criticized as well as numerous other denominations and other non-religious groups worked together for the passage of Prop 8 to define marriage between one man and one woman. Cooperating on a common goal is much more effective than attacking different groups for not fitting your definition of Christian.

Galltegfa
You don't need my permission or forgiveness to try and eliminate my profession. One way to look at what I do is I am here to defend taxpayers against government oppression. If the source of the oppression is eliminated, I lose my job, but I don't see that as a bad thing for the country as a whole. Good luck, I've got to run. (Again)

Huckabee scares me to death
At one time during the campaign Mr. Huckabee stated that he was the only one with a degree in theology. Thats a strike against, not for. I can recall only one of the New Testament Apostles that you could say had a degree in theology. That mans name was Saul, later Paul and it took a little incident on the road to Damascus to straighten him out. Mr. Huckabee is just another false teacher, a wolf in sheeps clothing.

Huckabee or Romney
Being raised as a Democrat and an Evangelical I had never met a Mormon. I was not ignorant of the Bible, in fact, my study of the Bible left me with questions that no one could adequately answer. I had been taught to shun Mormons as cultist and people to avoid like a plague.

However, like most people in the South, Mormon Missionaries knocked on my door and I thought I would make them see the light.

In stead, I found that their teachings were more sound than what I had grown up with. When I approached my Pastor about what they were teaching me I was ridiculed and told to repent. When I asked him if he had ever studied their teachings I was rebuffed. I was more intent on studying what the Mormon's taught and, against my parents wishes, I joined the LDS Faith.

I was ostracized and came to understand what it meant to suffer for your faith.

That said, Mormons make up a very small percentage of this country. Less than 1% are active members of the LDS faith. They have less political pull than any minority in this country. Yet, they have been attacked for their stand against Prop 8 in California as if they were the size of the Catholic church. They stand strongly for family, chastity, hard work, service to others, and every other teaching of Christ. I can see from my own personal experience that Evangelicals are bigoted and unaccepting of such faithful people. Yet, I find that unless all people of faith support each other we will continue to see the ungodly secular practices continually pushed on those of faith.

While I appreciate your advice (heartfelt, I am sure), I said this country is taking the downhill course it is because of IMMORALITY, in the church and out of it, not simply because of lack of moral Christians. I am not complaining in the slightest, simply stating the obvious. You cannot tell me that people who call themselves Christians and voted for Obama have a true sense of Biblical morality when he supports things that are diametrically opposed to the Word of God. This downhill slide and church apostasy was prophesied thousands of years ago...in the Bible. It's time for the church to stop being selective about what moral issues they chose to support or not and stand in support of them ALL! Time to shed the fear of what non-conforming to the world's idea of morality (which is actually immorality) will be and count the cost instead of what conforming will cost us.

Huck is now warning that Libertarianism
is the wrong direction for the Republican party to take. Conservatives need to shuck Huck and the other big government nanny staters. What this country needs is more freedom.

Are you deranged?
I am not believing anyone could be so uninformed, deranged, and misguided and have this total fabrication and smear on Governor Huckabee printed. You say he is the inspriation for your fictional novel character but it is YOU who would make a better character...To address just a few of your "comments", you say Huckabee is jealous of Mitt's success. Let's see now, Huckabee is a political analyst with FOX, has his own show, just inked a radio deal with ABC radio, is a whizz of a bass player, accomplished author of 6 books, has the best oratoral skills of any politician living...and he is jealous of Mitt. I don't think so. Next. you continue to live in a fantasy world where Huck ruined Mitt's political future because he asked one quesion about the Mormon faith to a reporter. Somehow, that becomes a continued attempt on Huck's part to make it an issue. YOU are the one who keeps bringing up Mitt's Mormon faith. If you, indeed believe it is hurting him, why do you keep putting it first and foremost in front of the voter's eyes by writing about it? Finally, you may have noticed that Romney's camp did not deny anything that Huckabee wrote in his book. Huck simply wrote what happened during the campaign and his assessment on the candidates. Huckabee will not say one thing to your face and something else behind your back. He is honest and open. Too bad more politicians aren't like him. Your article makes you sound like an unbalanced crazy. I hope you take a chill pill and try to calm down.

beth
are Catholics Christians?

for all your praching about sin, i find your posts to full of sinful behavior.

but then you have a log in your eye.

I agree Douglas
and, by the way, you don't sound deranged, uninformed or misguided to me. and I think you sound really calm....
I really like Huck, but he could have written a good book without all the BS. It does make him look petty. I was a little anoyed with him, too, when he was interviewed on Fox News, and brought up the remarks re: Mitt.

Beth
What if you don't know that you've sinned? What if you believed in your heart that you were being righteous, but instead were being arrogant and foolish? You wouldn't know that you needed to repent, but as you explained earlier, the price of (unrepentant) sin is death. So, though you repent for your sins that you are aware of, you omit repentance for the sins you are blind to, and God decides you aren't righteous and holy enough for his kingdom. You did your best, but still didn't fulfill God's requirements. Aren't we all blind to our own shortcomings? How do we repent for all those shortcomings we are blind to? Too bad? Is that your idea of all-loving and just?

To Linda from Mo
Since Huckabee was wrongly accused by Romney's supporters the entire election of being against Romney BECAUSE of his MORMON faith, it became necessary for Huckabee to write about the REAL cause of the friction between the two teams. As a matter of fact, NONE of the Republican candidates liked or respected Mitt Romney. If they ALL disliked him there has to be a reason. Huckabee explained his reasons for the friction. All the candidates ALWAYS call the winner to congratulate him. That was a REAL SNUB by the Romney camp. Huckabee has ALWAYS said the most important quality in a president should be authenticity. Romney clearly has none. I can look all over youtube of Romney speaking on the campaign trail saying much worse things about Huck than what is in that book. What Huck said is all true and none was denied by Romney. What Romney said about Huck was NOT true and WAS denied by Huck.

O BC
The fake BC has the seal with 1959 on it not 1961 nor is there any signature of mother, doctor or father, maybe he just landed from some other planet. He seems like he is just out of this world, messiah? Well, the difference is that God does not think He is Barak, lucky for us.

Man. this is disappointing.
Not the author, but many of the responses. Huckbots sound eerily similiar to Obamabots. Both proclaiming their man as a true man of God. Both refuting truth with propaganda. Both chastising anyone who won't embrace their guy. But the world loves Obama/Huck. Maybe you should consider God's take on that. "Friendship with the world is enmity with God." "Do not be suprised if the world hates you, for it hated me first, saith the Lord"

Who truly belonged to the Lord? According to the word, the ones rejected by the world.

If there were ever 2 men who should NEVER step foot inside the WhiteHouse, they'd be Obama and Huck. Both of these men tore into Palin without a cause. Both thin skinned and offend easily. Both drive on ego, corruption, fraud, deceit, hypocracy, slander, envy, riddled with insecurities, seeking self glory. Both have cult like followers dedicated to the smearing of the opposition. Both espouse socialism, greed, and ill gotten gain. The kool-aide cup in America runneth over. And on both sides of the aisle. My church (Baptist) has rejected Huckabee as well as Obama. Both for the same reasons. One has "a form of godliness but denies the power thereof; from such turn away." The other is an apostate. But we were not electing a preacher, but rather a president. And if I were to elect a preacher, it wouldn't be Huckabee.

The anti-Christian point of view
Why does this anti-Christian write for Townhall. Just because he throws in a comment about Christmas means nothing.

To all conservative readers: Ronald Reagan built a great coalition by relying on tried and true American values. There were 3 essential elements to Reagan's greatness. He absolutely demanded an American military second to none. Hawks as we're called today responded to his call. Nothing deters evil like the ability to destroy those who plot it. Even the evil Islamists hide under rocks when confronted by overwhelming firepower. He also voiced American desire for smaller government. Lower taxes resulted and most Americans responded favorably. Finally, Reagan was a passionate Christian. 30 years ago that was crucial.

Today, America is in trouble. Sorry Mackinnon, but Mormons are a false cult. Jesus and Satan are not brothers. Following the sick teachings of a murdering pedophile like John Smith does not get you your own planet with all the women you want.

President Bush has been a true champion of points 1 and 3 above. Taking the battle to the terrorists in Iraq will be viwed as brilliant by future historians. Bush is a committed Christian. However, while he did cut taxes, the growth of government over the last 8 years has been revolting.

Page 2
However, the Republican party of today is no longer Reagan's party. All 3 legs worked together 20 years ago. Now, heathens like Romney are splitting the coalition. No Bible believing Christian can support a satan worshipper like him. Unfortunately, in the general election as well, we saw many calling themselves Christian supporting the candidate directly opposed to God. Baby-killing, gay marriage and outlawing the Bible as a "hate crime" are not things true Christians support. I feel confident in saying that anyone who voted for Hussein Obam does not have a saving relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ.

People like Mackinnon, Coulter, and Hannity supporting the satan worshipper are no friends of the conservative tradition in America. To all you economic conservatives wishing to throw we evangelical Christians off the bus - think very hard about it. Without us we would have president Kerry. Without us you will never win a national election. Macknnon might try to make fun of Mike Huckabee's times with the Lord, but I can personally attest that He is there for us when we need Him. Pray for guidance. He gives it freely. I'm sorry Mackinnon, Coulter, Hannity and others don't respond when God calls. I pray that all of you supporting satan's candidates like Romney and Obama seek and find Jesus. He wants to be your savior. Let Him in.

Final thoughts
America is headed for true calamity. Like Israel of the Old Testament, we have ignored and waved our fingers at God far too often. The coming economic collapse triggered by Husseins' redistribution goals is our just reward. People like me talking of the Bible will be jailed. Terrorists will detonate a nuclear or chemical weapon in a major US city. We have done this to ourselves. Please, Christians - get out in the culture and impact it for Jesus. Revival can happen again in America. Supposedly conservative sites, like Townhall, need to stop attacking Christians with tripe like Mackinnon. We will win in the end. But, America, like Israel of old, needs to get back to worshipping the one true God. Christians - don't wait - start today.

Romney
I am a Christian. Would someone tell me how the Mormon faith is satanic? I confess I know very little about it, but I have been an admirer of Mitt Romney for a long time and was an admirer of his father, George, too. Am I so ignorant of the truth that I do not see how the Mormon faith is really as bad as it supposedly is, according to Huckabee? I have always considered it different from my denomination (Baptist) but no more than different. Romney says he believes Jesus is the son of God. At what point do the evangelicals differ so stridently with the Mormons? Huckabee seems so pleasant, yet so intolerant.

McKinnon doesn't understand Christians
This McKinnon doesn't have a clue about Christians. His evangelical friend should have told him that God speaks to us all. Those who are looking for him and trying to see His direction in their lives are just more attuned to Him. We can all have that. Those who don't understand that God wants a personal relationship with all of us (them included) believe that Christians think they have a monopoly on God. We know that God loves them just as much as He loves us. McKinnon has a completely false take on Huckabee. He is a good man, and maybe McKinnon just can't understand that. It sounds to me as though McKinnon is interpreting the actions of Huckabee through the filter of hate in his own heart.

Beth
Sorry if I misinterpreted your intentions from my quick reading of some of your earlier posts. I don't know exactly which points of doctrine from the Bible we may agree or disagree on, but I definitely agree with your point about morality. I am very grateful fot the faith of our founding fathers and the inspired principles on which this country was founded. But, maintaining our freedoms requires a responsible and moral society. If the morals in this society continue on their current path, this country will crumble as many other formerly great societies have in the past.

Mitt Romney
How can someone call Mitt a satan worshiper. Please that is just stupid. Look at his lovely wife and family. Look at how he has lived his life. He is successful in both his personal life and his professional life. He took the high road when Huckabee attacked his faith. I have to say I think differently about Huckabee now, but I still wish Romney had been the one to go all the way. He is fantastic.

cowardly ranters
All those ranters against Romney are one bunch of cowards. For example- what do you have to say in your balogna denial of Huckabees catering to the illegal mess! Well, lets her it you liars!
Him,Rudy,McCain, all were sleezy on Illegal
Immigration and Mitt was not Looking the other way so of course they were up tight w/him! Awww, too bad ! Mitt deny ? What is to deny?
Nothing to deny! Huckebee can deny all he wants he is a liar! He spent, taxed big time
that is liberal and the illegal situation in Ark. was condoned by Huckabee..that is liberal!
Romney hired a co. to do work for him and in
Mass. you can not investigate the personnel
working for the co. the co. had Illegal(s)
and when Romney found out ..he released the co.

I am Baptist also. Our pastor did a series on cults a false teachings over a year ago as many cults were active in our area. We even had satan worshipping mormons come to the door of my house. When I asked them questions from the Bible, all they could do was quote their evil book of mormon. They do not know the Lord Jesus Christ. Romney is a superior liar. When he said he believed Jesus was the son of God, he either is not a true mormon or just lies directly to America. Their cult states clearly that Jesus and satan are "spiritual brothers". A LIE. I blame the real church in America for the success of the cults. We have been silent for far too long. Now, a President and Congress that will jail us for telling others what the Bible says. Some people posting to this site fall right in line with that. Call it "hate crimes" or whatever you will, but it is anti-Christian and like Romney was, a direct attack from satan himself on the faithful. As I said in another post, persecution is coming. America will suffer great calamity. Through it all, the church must stand firm in the truth. Oppose evil like Romney and Obama. We win in the end.

Ann
Anyone who calls satan the brother of Jesus is a satan worshipper. Read your Bible, if you have one. I grew up in New England, so I suspect you don't own a Bible and may have never even opened one. If you get one, read the gospels - Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. Read Romans as well. Those are great resources to get to know the Lord Jesus Christ.

As far as Romney being successful in business and having a nice family - so what. The Bible will also tell you all of our good works is like a filthy rag to God. People directly opposed to God can do good deeds. But, without Jesus, they, like Romney are doomed to hell. I pray that through his rejection in the primaries, he searches for the truth. That he gets a real Bible, not the lies of the book of mormon. I pray that he comes to know Jesus as his savior. For if he doesn't, his fate is terrible.

ROMNEY
IN THE ABOVE RESPONSES, THESE CO CALLED CHTRISTIANS SHOULD RECALL THAT HE WHO IS WITHOUT SIN ,CAST THE FIRST STONE, OR JUDGE YE NOT, LEST YE BE JUDGED, ...
IT IS UP TO GOD ALONE TO DECIDE WHO IS GOING TO HELL AND THOSE WHO ARE NOT....
BUT WE SEEM TO HAVE "CHRISTIANS" JUDGING ROMNEY AS A SATAN ?
IF SO MANY CHRISTIANS ARE AGAINST ROMNEY, AS A MORMON, WHY THEN DO WE HAVE A TOTAL OF SIX MORMONS IN OUR CONGRESS ?
IT IS OBVIOUS THEY WERENT JUST ELECTED ONLY BY OTHER MORMONS....THEY WERE ELECTED AS KNOWLEDGABLE CANDIDATES.
THERE WERE 56 CHURCHES THAT BRANCHED OFF OF THE ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH SINCE 313 AD. THIS INCLUDES BAPTISTS WHO WERE FORMED IN THE YEAR
340 AD.
MORMONS WERE FOUNDED IN 1846 AND BELIEVED IN THE LORD JESUS AS CHRIST AND SAVIOUR.....A CULT ?
I PERSONALLY DO NOT WISH TO PREJUDGE ANY RELIGION THAT CLAIMS "JESUS CHRIST IS LORD"....

HUCKABEE
AS A MINISTER , THIS MAN SHOULD KNOW BETTER THAN TO USE THY TONGUE TO BLASPHEME ANY OTHER PERSON ...HUCKABEE IS SHOWING THAT HE IS NOT A TRUE MINISTER IF HE USES A BOOK AND HIS MOUTH TO JUDGE ANOTHER ....HIS "TRUE " COLORS NOW SHOW....

Ahem
Ahem, Cudlow?

Huckabee's Scary??????
Disappointing.

I heard the "scary" bombs being thrown during the primaries but heard little from the candidate himself. Since then, I've heard much more from him and he's not scary at all. I can only suspect democrats and liberals conspired to put that message out early in the primaries and select our most "defeatable" candidate.

And that crowd is what Americans should be scared of. Parasites, fools, socialists, terrorists, slugs and other human debris have moved in. We'll possibly survive 4 years but not much chance of 8 if they aren't removed.

Conservatives need to work as a coalition if not a team and build the opposition into an overwhelming defeat for the forces of Obamanation.

We need to work towards getting liberals out of education, journalism, and especially local offices. With that, we can embark on getting them out of courts, legislatures, Congress, and maybe even the country. "Liberals" took the last five or six decades to infect the dialog and create their army of drones. It will be a long slog removing that infestation. But it's vital we start and we have an advantage: After all, "liberals" already believe they'd be so much better off and happier in say Cuba, China, Venezuela or San Fransisco. Let's work together to get them a great deal on one-way tickets. Despite their opinion of themselves, "Liberals" aren't smart and if it looks like a free lunch, they'll swallow it whole without water.

We can fight among ourselves when they're gone.

"Inspiration for the evil character"
Wow... if Mike Huckabee is the closest thing to evil that Mr. MacKinnon could come up with for inspiration in developing the twisted evil character in his novel, then Mr. MacKinnon could make a fortune selling that punch he's been drinking (said with all due respect, of course).

Let's get one thing straight, I like Mitt Romney, and I would have preferred him to McCain hands down.
But let's hit a few Mr. MacKinnon's points, one by one.
1.) It is the place of a Baptist minister to challenge other faiths. It's not a smear to challenge the tenants of another faith if you are seeking the truth. Name calling and negatively labeling such challenges as "smear" is a liberal technique that is used to shutdown all discussion on an issue, and to avoid the merits of the case. Besides Mormons, and Mormon clergy, challenge other faiths all time. Have you ever discussed the issue of faith with a Mormon missionary on your porch?
2.) Huckabee's criticism of Mitt's changing his mind is perfectly legitimate. Mitt made a very strange turnaround on at least one major issue just short of his deciding to run for higher office . The graphic images of abortion, and even partial-birth abortion where the baby often fights the doctor with flailing arms and legs before having his brains literally sucked out by the abortionist was not enough to move Mitt from his pro-abortion stance. But, just short of the decision to run for higher office, he has an epiphany on life after some critical deep thinking on the issue of embryonic stem cell research. I'm not saying it wasn't possible, but it is indeed worthy of discussion and thorough analysis... and yes, even criticism.
3. Congratulatory phone calls are standard practice in U.S. politics, like it or not. Even President Bush was gracious enough to call Obama, after the man demonized him. If anyone had reason to not make that call it would have been George W., not Mitt Romney.

Bob
Let's get three things straight.

1. The campaign trail is not the place to be attacking someone elses faith. We were not voting for pastor in chief. I could care less what Huckabees campaign and supporters have to say about mormons or any other religion.

2. If you actually study Romneys record rather than just listen to what the pundits say you can find out his actual positions and the many false things said about them. Gay rights groups and pro abortion groups have been trashing him for decades. Huckabee claimed he only changed his position on abortion in order to run for president. Planned parenthood did endorse Romney once but only because his opponent was more outspoken in his anti-abortion views.
3. Do you really think that every losing candidate calls the winning candidate after every state primary? Who cares anyway.

OK, so let me get this straight.....
Doug gets miffed because his Mitt lost to both Huckabee and McCain in the primaries, so he then bases a character in a novel on the (in his mind) evil Huckabee.

Then the novel doesn't sell worth a darn (no listings on NY Times or USA Today sellers lists, so Doug ten has to do press and columns to promote it.

With opinion columnists like Doug supposedly helping spread conservative ideals the democrats don't need groups like MoveOn to slander Republicans, Doug and those like him will do it for them.

But hey, maybe he will sell enough books to retire and make room for a talking head who doesn't help destroy the party.

Just some facts
I was witness to the multi-million dollar smear campaign that Mitt Romney threw at Huckabee in Iowa. While most people on this board did not have their television and radio interupted with non-stop lies and dirty ads by Mitt Romeny, I did. It made me disgusted, and was one of the key things that fueled the Huckabee win - Iowans hate negative campaigns. Huckabee is still openly being called a bigot, a snake-oil salesman, and having his personal character assulted by the pro-Romney wing of the party. I can understand why he would be a bit upset with Romney.

Mike Huckabee did speak out against the mormon church during his time as a minister. To put it into context, Huckabee was a minister, and openly fought against what he believed a cult that leads people away from Christ. He would not have been living up to his calling to not do this. I would suppose that he would also take issue with the hindu, muslim, and budhist relgions as well.

In Iowa, Romney was both trying to call Huckabee a bigot because of his past actions against the mormon church, but at the same time distance himself from that same church. Huckabee may have gone overboard with his "brother" comment, but I have no idea how the man did not come completely unglued due to what Romney was doing. I can forgive him a little bad blood.
