Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

The Courant story notes that four of the 16 pardonees were convicted for their role in a $7.2 million robbery of a West Hartford bank in 1983.Yet: "None of the four was pressed by the Justice Department to provide information on the whereabouts of the never-recovered money or three participants in the robbery, including Hartford native and inside man Victor M. Gerena. Such pressure is a common precondition for amnesty."

What's more, none of the 16 had applied for a pardon, because they refused to acknowledge U.S. authority.

Holder, who oversaw the Office of the Pardon Attorney, met with advocates for the prisoners at least nine times. The first Clinton pardon attorney recommended against a pardon. The second pardon attorney recommended neither for nor against clemency.

A month later, Clinton commuted their sentences as the prisoners re-leased a statement, suggested by Holder, that supported "a just and dignified solution to our colonial problem." It also noted that in liberation processes, there are "innocent victims" on all sides.

Rich and the Puerto Rican political prisoners have two things in common: They were clearly unrepentant; and they were so well connected politically that they got out of jail free anyway.

Former New York prosecutor James Comey wrote to the Senate Judiciary Committee that the outrageous Rich pardon "may actually make" Holder a better AG "because he has learned a hard lesson about protecting the integrity of that great institution from political fixers." Maybe. Or maybe Holder is the consummate political fixer.

The buck stops with Bill Clinton
If President Bush took back one of his pardons, Bill Clinton could have done the same thing. Eric Holder can only recommend pardons. It was up to Bill Clinton to approve or disapprove. It was said Bill Clinton reads everything. No one pulls anything over the head of Bill Clinton. If there's one thing we have come to know about the Clinton's is that there are no donations they don't like. You can bet the donations of Marc Rich outweigh the recommendations of Eric Holder in Bill Clinton's decision to pardon him.

Pick your battles wisely.

Like it or not. The average american voter is not politically aware.

They don't know the connection between Sen. Frank Church (D) Idaho, who gutted the CIA. They don't know how Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton crippled the FBI. They don't know that Bill Clinton refused to meet with his CIA director. They don't know how Sen. Robert Torrecelli (D) NJ, handcuffing the CIA. They don't know about Janet Reno's incompetence in dealing with terrorism. The Liberal media certainly is not going to tell them.

This is not 1941. One 9-11 is not enough for today's disengaged voter. One 9-11 is not enough for blind faith in the executive branch.

Unfortunately the nation will require 1 or 2 more attacks killing in the hundreds before the country will wake up and understand the threat.

With the appointments of Eric Holder at Justice and Leon Panetta at CIA, more attacks will come.
