A Weymouth, Mass. police officer and an innocent bystander have died after being attacked by a man who stole the officer's gun and fired multiple times, reports Fox News.
Weymouth Police Officer Michael Chesna was allegedly attacked by Emanuel Lopes at roughly 8:00 AM this morning. The individual in question hurled rocks at the police officer, which hampered his ability to defend himself. Then, the suspect allegedly stole Officer Chesna’s gun and shot him multiple times. The suspect also hit an innocent bystander who later died. According to WCVB 5 the "officers engaged in a foot pursuit with Lopes when he fired off Chesna's gun three more times, with one of those bullets striking a woman who was in her home and killing her. Lopes was taken into custody after discharging the weapon. He is expected to be arraigned Monday on two counts of homicide."
Witnesses report that the officer was trying to pull over an “erratic driver” which led to the incident. April Visco, who lives in the neighborhood where this occurred, told the Boston Globe, ““Everyone says ‘it doesn’t happen in my neighborhood…It does happen everywhere.”

Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of Michael Chesna, who leaves behind a wife and two children. He was a 6-year veteran of the #Weymouth Police Department. #EndOfWatch https://t.co/D8EFUGWVWW pic.twitter.com/9325PAq4jr
