Kamala Harris Has a New Accent

Vice President Kamala Harris is being criticized for not only changing her policy positions but for using different accents as well.

Harris raised eyebrows on Monday during a campaign stop in Detroit, Michigan, after she used a “fake accent” while speaking to a teachers union.

“You better thank a union member for the five-day workweek," Harris said, unveiling an odd articulation of her speech. “You better thank a union member for sick leave. You better thank a union member for paid leave. You better thank a union member for vacation time.”

Social media users erupted in mockery over Harris’ use of an entirely different accent than what is original to her. One user slammed Harris' habit of altering her accent based on her audience, a "blatant display of inauthenticity."

"This isn’t about understanding or respecting different communities; it’s about manipulation. Harris’s accent changes don’t reflect relatability—they reveal a willingness to say or do whatever it takes to win favor, even if it means being fake," another social media user wrote.

Republican communicator Matt Whitlock pointed out that Harris changes her accent as much as she changes her policy positions.

"Today, she’s talking in a fake southern accent, pretending to be a moderate. Next week she’ll be back to San Francisco liberal," wrote on X.

This is not the first time Harris has faked an accent. In July, she was ridiculed for faking a southern accent during a campaign rally in Atlanta, Georgia. Again, in 2020, she faced criticism for extending her vowels during an event in Florida when she said, "We will tell them we were hangin' out in a parking lot this particular Saturday afternoon with Kamala and all our friends."
