NYT Editorial Board Says DNC Should Assemble 'Unbiased' Panel to Investigate Reade's Claims Against Biden

After weeks of overwhelming silence from mainstream media outlets, The New York Times’ editorial board weighed in on Tara Reade’s allegations against former Vice President Joe Biden. While The Washington Post concluded that Biden should address Reade’s claims directly, which the former vice president then did on Friday’s edition of MSNBC’s Morning Joe, NYT wants to put the case in the hands of the Democratic National Committee (DNC). NYT’s editorial board advocates for an “unbiased” panel, created by the DNC, to investigate Reade’s claims:

The board’s suggestion, which relies on the DNC to assemble an “unbiased” committee to assess misconduct allegations against their own candidate is bizarre, to say the least:

The NYT’s suggestion was not well received at the DNC. The committee claims that Biden was already investigated during the Obama campaign’s vice presidential vetting process, and that his denial is sufficient to satisfy the DNC:

Indeed, investigating Reade’s claims does not fall under the jurisdiction of the DNC. However, the committee’s assertion that Biden was already thoroughly vetted is rich; when Republicans reminded Democrats that then-Judge Brett Kavanaugh had already been subject to multiple FBI background checks during his decades-long tenure of public service, Democrats insisted that a new investigation was mandatory.
