Border Patrol Seizes Tens of Thousands of Dollars In Designer and Electronic Knockoffs

Border Patrol agents in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania seized 23 packages containing knockoff designer goods and electronics.

Nineteen of the packages originated from Hong Kong, two from China, one from Singapore and one from Taiwan.

The packages contained:

  • 264 Flawless shavers.
  • 235 Apple chargers.
  • 120 pairs of Apple ear pods.
  • 60 HDMI switches.
  • 21 fully-loaded Nintendo-like gaming systems.
  • 20 pairs of Air Jordan sneakers.
  • An assortment of Louis Vuitton, Prada, Fendi and Gucci purses and wallets.

If the goods had been authentic, they would have retailed for more than $51,000.

Border Patrol takes a vested interest in counterfeit goods because of the health and safety risk as well as the financial hardship counterfeit products place on Americans. The shavers could be defective and cause injury, the phone cables could overheat and cause a fire and the gaming systems could be riddled with malware designed to steal consumers' identities and financial information.

According to the agency, China still remains the primary source of counterfeit goods and products that make their way into the United States.
