Sen. Mitt Romney (R-UT) is a traitor. He’s voting to convict Trump on one of the articles of impeachment. He’s siding with Democrats and exposing himself as someone who is against the Great American Comeback. To all those blue-collar workers who stayed home in 2012 because Obama was too liberal and Romney looked like the guy who fired them, he didn’t disappoint. He just spits in your face with this vote which is a direct missile fired at the blue-collar comeback that’s been engineered by this White House. Romney is doing this because of his conscience. Well, good for him. He’s principled, right? Except that he’s not. Donald Trump Jr. cited a damning Twitter thread by Gregory T. Angelo who noted the years of flip-flopping by Romney, exposing him as the guy who just wants to be invited to the cocktail parties.
He called Trump a conman and then vied to become his secretary of state. He said he didn’t want to return to the days of Ronald Reagan in 1994, and then said he would very much like to see a Reagan Republican be the 2008 nominee. In 2012, he accepted Trump’s endorsement in his presidential bid. And he accepted Trump’s endorsement during his 2018 Senate run. The man is doing this because he thinks he can run for president again. Maybe. Why would he do this? It seems Mitt has become infected with John McCain syndrome of just being angry. As Steve Guest noted, Trump is more popular than him in Utah and with this move, made the impeachment all about him—as he’s done without fail in years past. Mitt isn’t principled. He’s a spineless politician who just wants to be liked—and this is the perfect way to remain hated. He’s a man without a country now and the Republican Party should move to expel him. He’s a loser. He’s a traitor. And he will not be missed.

Because he's kicking off his tenure as a United States Senator by criticizing President Trump's "character," let's take a moment to talk about Mitt Romney's "character" . . . (thread)

• When running for Senate in 1994, Romney told @LogCabinGOP he would "do better" than Ted Kennedy on gay rights, said he supported partner benefits ENDA, and open service in the military; when he ran for president in 2008 and 2012, all of that went out the window pic.twitter.com/gfrnUvZlSO

• Mitt Romney on March 3, 2016: "Mr. Trump is a con man, a fake"
— Gregory T. Angelo (@gregorytangelo) January 2, 2019
• Mitt Romney on November 29, 2016: pic.twitter.com/rwXK6NjS1j
• Romney when running for Governor of Massachusetts in 2002: "I will preserve and protect a woman's right to choose and am devoted and dedicated to honoring my word in that regard."
— Gregory T. Angelo (@gregorytangelo) January 2, 2019
• Romney in 2011: "I support the reversal of Roe v. Wade, because it is bad law"
On President Reagan:
— Gregory T. Angelo (@gregorytangelo) January 2, 2019
• In 1994, when running for U.S. Senate: "I was an independent during the time of Reagan-Bush. I’m not trying to return to Reagan-Bush."
• In 2007, when running for president: "I want that nominee, however, to come out of the same mold as Ronald Reagan."
• Romney in February 2012: Happy to accept Donald Trump's endorsement of his campaign for president
— Gregory T. Angelo (@gregorytangelo) January 2, 2019
• Romney in February 2018: Happy to accept Donald Trump's endorsement of his campaign for U.S. Senator
• Romney in January 2019: https://t.co/WLSUn7yZUb
I could go on. Romney goes wherever the winds of popular opinion take him. If Trump's popularity starts surging, or Romney's approval takes a hit after this ill-advised op-ed, watch how he turns on a dime.

Again, the crowd who thinks this man is a principled conservative Republican, radio host Buck Sexton, who is also a regular fixture on Fox News, said it best:
Mitt cares so much about conservatism, the Constitution, American prosperity, protecting the unborn and securing our borders that when it really counts he is willing to backstab the most effective defender of all those things and hand the lunatic democrat-socialists a win

“Mitt cares so much about conservatism, the Constitution, American prosperity, protecting the unborn and securing our borders that when it really counts he is willing to backstab the most effective defender of all those things and hand the lunatic democrat-socialists a win.”
Wall Street Journal’s Kimberley Strassel added that Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer should send Mitt a “thank you card” because this vote only screws over Senate Republicans and helps Democrats in their build to retake the upper chamber.

Mitt Romney may think he's taking a shot at POTUS. But any real damage he causes will in fact be to Senate Rs in tough races. Schumer's goal with all this was retaking the Senate. If he succeeds, he'll hopefully remember to send Romney a thank you.

Voters don’t care about principles. They want results. They don’t care about having a good person in office. They want results. And Trump makes and delivers on his promises. Mitt isn’t even close when it comes to such accomplishment. So long, Traitor Mitt.
Mitt Romney is bitter.
— Steve Guest (@SteveGuest) February 5, 2020
Bitter he didn't win in 2012.
Bitter @realDonaldTrump didn't pick him to be Sec of State.
Bitter President Trump is more popular than he is in Utah.
And Mitt's announcement was ALL ABOUT HIM.
Romney did a pretaped sitdown interview with Chris Wallace.
Mitt Romney is an irrelevant relic.

The entire Republican Party is united behind @realDonaldTrump and knows he did nothing wrong.
Let’s call it what it is. You’re sour about Trump’s success and you want to keep your elitist dinner invites.
I believe Mitt Romney is motivated by bitterness and jealously that @realDonaldTrump accomplished what he has failed to do multiple times. His desire to pander to the chattering class has gotten the best of him...again.
