The Fox News Channel came out on top among the cable networks for the first week of the Senate's impeachment trial into President Trump.
Between January 21st and 25th, Fox News averaged 2,382,000 total viewers and 418,000 in the 25-54 age demographic. MSNBC came in second place by averaging 1,713,000 total viewers and 265,000 in the age demographic, according Nielsen Media Research.
CNN was in third place, netting 1,228,000 total viewers and 314,000 in the age demographic.
Fox News was also the top-rated cable news network across both demographics during primetime, getting 3,684,000 total viewers, beating out CNN 's 1,260,000 and MSNBC's 2,189,000 viewers.
The channel's success for its impeachment trial coverage comes it is in its 18th consecutive year as the number one cable news network. The streak has been unbroken since overtaking CNN in January 2002. For this January, Fox News had its highest-rated month in total viewers since February 2017 with total day and November 2016 with prime.
"For 18 years, more viewers have turned to FOX News Channel for its unrivaled news and opinion coverage than any other cable news network and we are proud of our strong team both on and off the air as we offer our audience the most dynamic programming in the country," Fox News Media CEO Suzanne Scott and Fox News Media President and Executive Editor Jay Wallace said.
In an internal companywide memo provided to Townhall, Scott and Wallace said "no other network in cable can lay claim to this level of consistent dominance with one of the most loyal and passionate audiences in the country."
