President Trump took bold, decisive foreign policy action to take out General Qassem Soleimani, and Democrats in the Senate are having no part of it. Partisan hysteria and hatred of the president knows no bounds for this caucus, so much so that the Senate minority will not back a resolution introduced to laud the military’s efforts in this capture.
Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) brought the legislation to the floor of the Senate, along with 42 GOP colleagues:

Just as we did in 2011 following the killing of Bin Laden, it is my hope my colleagues in the Senate will come together once again to honor all those involved in this successful mission to defend America’s national security interests and eliminate a terrorist mastermind.

The resolution is nearly identical to the resolution introduced in May of 2011 that praised the military and honored their families immediately following the Obama Administration’s capture of Osama Bin Laden. This resolution received the support of all 100 senators; partisan politics were left at the door. The GOP rightfully praised the strategic call by former President Obama and the bravery of our service members. The 2011 resolution was a fantastic show of bipartisan unity, in support of the country both parties love, after such a decisive military win for both the United States and the world at-large.
The overall reaction from the Left following the president’s bold move has been nothing short of fear-mongering hysteria, strictly because of who occupies the Oval Office. It is not a GOP talking point to say that Democrats would rather sympathize with a terrorist than give President Trump credit for any action.
The GOP-led initiative to praise the successful efforts of the military and the Trump Administration is a chance for Democrats in the Senate to unite with their Republican colleagues and put American interests ahead of partisan politics. Alas, the Senate minority has refused this olive branch thus far. It remains to be seen whether or not the Senate minority will accept this olive branch, but thus far, the resolution praising brave service members and the Trump Administration is exclusively a Republican effort in the upper chamber.
