Warren: No One's Happy About Impeachment But We Got to Do What We Got to Do

Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) on Tuesday gave her final speech of 2019 in Boston, Massachusetts. Naturally, she had to bring up the Democrats' sham impeachment process.

Warren beat the same tireless drum that the Democrats have been running with, that no one wanted to pursue impeachment but President Donald Trump tied their hands and forced them to go down that route. And, if they did not, they would not be upholding their "sworn duty to the Constitution.

"It has brought no one any joy but the House Democrats upheld their sworn duty to the Constitution and impeached the President of the United States of America. And soon, I will return to the Senate to do my sworn duty as well," she explained.

Except she forgot to mention that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) is holding onto the articles of impeachment until she gets Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) to agree to her terms of an impeachment trial, which we know will not happen. As of now, Trump hasn't actually been impeached. It is not final until Pelosi sends them to McConnell.

Of course, Warren also tried to make this about Republicans not wanting to be truthful.

"But unless some Senate Republicans choose truth over politics, Donald Trump will be emboldened to try to cheat his way through yet another election," Warren said. "So, as we turn the page tomorrow into an election year, into a new decade, there is the chill of fear in the air. People are afraid, afraid for their families and their neighbors."

If Democrats really cared about the truth then they would have wanted to have a fair impeachment inquiry. They would have waited to see what the transcript of Trump's call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky actually said before they decided to launch their bogus impeachment inquiry. When they did decide to move forward with the impeachment inquiry, they would have had a full House vote to improve said inquiry and then chose someone other than Adam Schiff (R-CA) to lead the investigation. After all, Schiff spent more than two years telling us Trump colluded with Russia. He said he had this smoking gun that we just had to see and then we would finally know just how corrupt Trump really was. Except Special Counsel Robert Mueller found no collusion took place. So what did Schiff do? Move on to this call. And again, suddenly Trump did something wrong, even when a transcript of the call showed no wrong-doing.

The real kicker of the entire impeachment saga though? Democrats still will not give President Trump a fair shake. They will not allow Republicans to call witnesses. They will not allow Republicans to issue subpoenas. The Democrats say Republicans – and the White House – have this right, but they really do not. You know why? Because House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerry Nadler (D-NY) has to approve each and every subpoena and witness. And we all know how that will go.

People like Warren can say they will do "uphold their sworn Constitutional duty" by voting to impeach Trump. If they were really taking their oath seriously they would be prepared to hear the House's case and be impartial. They would not have their mind made up yet. But they do. They have already concluded that President Trump is guilty... and the trial hasn't even started.
