Rep. Jackie Speier Warns Trump Needs to Be 'Reined in' or Else He'll Be Impeached 'Yet Again'

Rep. Jackie Speier (D-CA) said on Tuesday that if President Trump does not rein in his "criminal" conduct then he will be impeached again by the House of Representatives.

MSNBC host Ali Velshi asked Speier what happens next after Trump's likely impeachment in the House.

"The most important thing that should happen is that the president recognizes that his conduct is criminal in many respects and that if he wants to not be impeached yet again, he has got to be reined in," said Speier. "I think the six-page letter that he just referred to suggests that he’s not willing to do anything differently. He has such contempt for the rule of law that he has established himself as a clear and present danger to the security of our country."

Velshi then asked what Democrats would do if Trump refuses to be "reined in" even if he is impeached.

"Certainly it will be in the hands of the American people, but certainly in the Intelligence Committee we intend to continue to investigate as appropriate and we will make as much as we can information available to the public as they make their decision," Speier replied. "But there’s no question that his conduct is so reprehensible to our Founding Fathers that impeachment was created just for these set of facts."

Speier said Trump does not understand the Constitution because he does not believe Congress is a co-equal branch.

The full House is set to vote on the two articles of impeachment against Trump, abuse of power and obstruction of Congress, on Wednesday. The articles are expected to pass, after which they will head to the Senate for a trial.
