How Some Iranian Schoolgirls Commemorated Anniversary of 1979 Takeover of US Embassy

Some Iranian schoolgirls celebrated the 40th anniversary of the 1979 U.S. Embassy takeover with chants of “death to America” and “death to Israel.”

In a video posted by MEMRI, an interviewer asks the girls why they are so happy.

“Because it’s November 4,” one girl responded, with another explaining its significance is “the taking over of the spies’ nest.”

“It feels good to come and punch America in the mouth,” she added.

Later in the interview another girl was asked “what important things can good and important students do for us?”

“The can help us annihilate Israel,” a schoolgirl replied.

One girl also compared being a student to the “profession” of “being a fighter in the [Iran-Iraq War of] Holy Defense.”

The girls explained their protest was meant to send a signal to the United States that it cannot do anything to Iran.

One held up a drawing she made “of the American flag we kicked.”

Some responses to the video said these children did not represent the views of all children in Iran.
