Immigration and Customs Enforcement has placed an immigration detainer on the Ukranian born driver responsible for killing seven, including five Marine veterans, in New Hampshire during "Bike Week" after his pick-up truck struck a group of motorists last Thursday.
According to Conway Daily Sun, "Zhukovskyy, 23, of West Springfield, Mass., was charged with seven counts of negligent homicide for driving erratically after allegedly crossing the double yellow center line on the rural road and striking a group of motorcyclists, killing seven and injuring three."
The accident occurred on June 21, but Zhukovskyy never should have been behind the wheel in the first place. His illustrious history with the law includes a drunk driving charge in 2013, a drug charge in 2017, another narcotics arrest in 2019, another drunk driving arrest in May of 2019, and a recent accident on June 3, 2019, which resulted in his truck being overturned on a Texas highway.
His license should have been taken after the DWI in May, but Connecticut authorities failed to upload enough information into the system to trigger an automatic revocation in his home state of Massachusetts. However, despite having his license also suspended in 2013 from his first DWI, the government failed to strip his license.
As Leah covered on Tuesday, the Massachusetts Registry of Motor Vehicles head Erin Deveney has resigned in wake of the glaring mistakes made by the state. According to Conway Daily Sun, "Massachusetts State Police also reported that when they arrested him at his home in West Springfield Monday, they found wax packets at his residence containing what authorities believe is heroin."
The accident killed "Albert Mazza, 59, of Lee; Daniel Pereira, 58, of Riverside, R.I.; Michael Ferrazi, 62, of Contoocook; Aaron Perry, 45, of Lee; Desma Oakes, 42, of Concord; and Edward and Joanne Corr, both 58 of Lakeview, Mass."
Now if and when he is released from police custody, Zhukovskyy will most likely be deported back to Ukraine by federal authorities.
