CBS News reports that "11 people are dead and six hospitalized after a shooting in Virginia Beach" on Friday afternoon, with more injured.
"A police spokesman told The Virginian-Pilot that the shooter opened fire in Building 2 of the municipal center, which is adjacent to City Hall," according to the Associated Press. One witness, City Councilwoman Barbara Henley, gave the AP her harrowing firsthand account.
“Somebody told me there had been a shooting and they were told to leave. Afterward, I heard a loud male voice say, ‘Get down!’ so I did..."When the person said to get down, then everybody dispersed pretty quickly,” Henley said.
“I’m just sick,” she added. “All these people that I work with all the time. They are such really fine people, and I just hope they’re all safe.”
Police told media in addition to the 11 deceased, there six other individuals who have been transported to area hospitals. One of these victims was a Virginia Beach police officer.

According to CBS News, the shooter is dead and was a "disgruntled employee" at the Virginia Beach courthouse who was shot by police.
