Conservatives appeared to be rather surprised that Congressman Justin Amash (R-MI) said President Donald Trump's actions regarding alleged Russia collusion and interference were "impeachable" offenses.
Both Trump and the RNC hit back at Amash, saying he's repeating the same old Democratic talking points.
Conservative pundits, however, seemed to have mixed reaction to Amash's take on the situation. One thing that seemed to bother most of them was the lack of evidence despite his so-called "analysis" of Special Counsel Robert Mueller's report.
It's a little surprising that Rep. Amash doesn't quote the Mueller report at all in this lengthy thread https://t.co/3CEFRomcb6

Justin Amash is the 2020 Evan McMullin. Fraudster through and through.

Hate stuff like this. The entire thread is Amash’s “analysis” and warnings of danger. Zero supporting evidence beyond “I read the report.” Until he gives supporting evidence, this is just same old talking points. https://t.co/eMZdX2gf0T

The only people who care what Justin Amash thinks who aren’t named “Justin Amash” have been super bored for the last couple years since weed got pretty much legalized.

Generally appreciate Amash’s independence and bucking of partisanship but 1) and 2) here are just ridiculous. Barr didn’t misrepresent anything. And impeaching a president for “obstructing” an investigation predicated on a fraud would be preposterous https://t.co/HQF7x9UrsD

McCarthy on GOP MI Rep Amash: “Maybe he wants some type of exit strategy. But it's very disturbing. This is exactly what you would expect. He never supported the president and I think he's just looking for attention.”

LOL, THIS IDIOT HAS ALWAYS BEEN A #NEVERTRUMP - Justin Amash becomes first Republican in Congress to call for Trump's impeachment https://t.co/G9g882VQ2o

President Trump's team, however, was quick to remind voters of Amash's record, especially on issues that shouldn't have been controversial:
Justin Amash was off his rocker long before his attention-seeking comments about @realDonaldTrump He was...

- 1 of 14 to vote vs. opioid legislation
- 1 of 10 to vote vs. $ to prevent school violence
- 1 of 35 to vote vs. making targeted attacks on officers a federal crime
Wow!
Justin Amash belongs to the Justin Amash Party and has been a nominal member of the GOP for years. His latest move is not shocking as it is meant only to get attention.

Every reporter covering Capitol Hill knows this. Any story not including this is a dishonest representation. https://t.co/k8Z1oZJcJv
The reason Attorney General William Barr had the majority of Special Counsel Robert Mueller's report released is simple: he wanted people to be able to come to their own conclusion about what did or did not take place. Although Amash is breaking from Republicans and saying Trump's actions are impeachable, he has that right to feel that way. The majority of Republicans, however, don't feel that way. And in order for impeachment proceedings to move forward, the majority of the Senate needs to agree with him. That doesn't appear to be happening any time soon.
