Ivanka Explains Why Americans Don't Want the Green New Deal

Ivanka Trump is among those who are positively befuddled over Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez's (D-NY) economic policies, particularly her Green New Deal. Part of the environmental measure demands upgrades to every building in the country, reduced air travel, and "economic security to all those who are unable or unwilling to work." The first daughter reasoned that most Americans don't want that kind of handout - at least not the ones she's met.

“I don’t think most Americans, in their heart, want to be given something," Trump said in an interview with Fox News host Steve Hilton this week. "I’ve spent a lot of time traveling around this country over the last 4 years. People want to work for what they get. So, I think that this idea of a guaranteed minimum is not something most people want. They want the ability to be able to secure a job. They want the ability to live in a country where’s there’s the potential for upward mobility.”

Lawmakers in Ocasio-Cortez's own party are questioning the motives of the New York freshman too. Sen. Mazie Hirono (D-HI) wondered how the strict limits on air travel will work for her constituents, who kind of rely on airplanes to get to those other 49 states.

Sen. Dick Durbin (D-IL) admitted on "Morning Joe" that he tried to read the legislation and found himself asking, "what in the heck is this?"

And let us never forget House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's charming nickname for the progressive measure.

"The green dream or whatever they call it, nobody knows what it is, but they're for it right?"
