Dems' Gun Control Narrative Is a Flop – And It's a Win For 2A Advocates

One of the Democrats' first major moves of the new Congress was introducing major gun control legislation. Now that they have control of the House, anti-gunners feel confident they can pass universal background checks and red flag laws. Our only hope in blocking these bills: the Republicans in the Senate (and even there, some have been wishy-washy on their support for the Second Amendment).

Whip Steve Scalise (R-LA) wanted to testify before the House Judiciary Committee about HR 8 and why he believed the bill would have done nothing to stop the Congressional baseball shooting that left him wounded. Naturally, Democrats denied him from testifying, which forced him to write a scathing letter with his testimony. Even after his powerful words and insight as a gun violence survivor, Democrats continue to move full steam ahead.

Last month, Rep. Richard Hudson reintroduced the highly anticipated Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act, which would make states recognize each other's concealed carry permits. As it currently stands, gun owners have to know where their permit is valid and what states reciprocate or "approve" of the permit. It's something Scalise desperately wanted to talk to the Committee about, but they weren't hearing it.

Hudson slammed the Democrats for not taking adequate actions to prevent gun violence.

“Democrats aren’t interested in talking about common sense solutions that can actually help prevent gun violence—like supporting local law enforcement, ensuring laws and protocols are followed to spot warning signs, improving mental health care and implementing national concealed carry reciprocity,” Hudson said in a statement.

The Congressman said that's definitely the case, as evidenced by their decision to keep Scalise from testifying.

“That was reinforced last week when they blocked my friend Steve Scalise – a survivor of gun violence – from testifying at their hearing because he wanted to talk about my concealed carry reciprocity bill. Today’s so-called universal background check bill would have done nothing to prevent recent mass violence events and would only serve to punish law-abiding citizens. I will continue to stand up against these attempts to restrict our Second Amendment rights," Hudson said.

It's time for pro-2A advocates to wake up and face the music. The truth is Democrats know exactly what they're doing. They know that the policies they're implementing won't make a difference in stopping mass shootings. If they did, they wouldn't feel the need to keep people like Scalise from testifying before their committee. They know what he says makes sense.

Think about it.

Democrats like to tear down people. If there is no possible way for you to know how someone feels or understand what they've gone through (because they disagree with your outcome) then they break you down.

"You've never been the victim of gun violence..."

"You're not a mother or a father..."

"You're not a minority..."

There's always some kind of defining factor before they consider your opinion to be valid.

When Democrats kept Scalise from testifying, they knew exactly what they were doing. He couldn't automatically be disqualified for "not knowing what it's like" to be a victim. They brushed him off because he tears down every. single. narrative that they have. He's always been pro-2A and he still iseven after being shot. He's challenging their narrative and their status quo. And it's a win for Second Amendment advocates.
