GOP Holds Onto Critical Seat in NM-02 With Yvette Herrell

State Rep. Yvette Herrell (R) and attorney Xochitl Torres Small (D) faced off for New Mexico's 2nd Congressional District. The seat was vacated by current Rep. Steve Pearce (R) who decided to run for New Mexico governor.

The race between the two women has consistently been a toss-up race, well within the margin of era. A New York Times poll conducted in mid-October showed Herrell winning by one point. An Emerson College poll conducted a few days later showed the two ladies at a dead tie. A few days before the election, KOB-TV showed Herrell winning by five points, while a similar poll by the Albuquerque Journal showed Herrell winning by one point.

Herrell received endorsements from Speaker Newt Gingrich, Reps. Steve Pearce, Jim Jordan, Mark Meadows and Mimi Walters. She also received endorsements from organizations such as Gun Owners of America, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, the National Border Patrol Council, Susan B. Anthony List, National Right to Life, the National Rifle Association and the Albuquerque Journal.

Vice President Mike Pence and Kellyanne Conwayalso stumped for Herrell and encouraged New Mexicans to vote for the Republican candidate.

News outlets are projecting a GOP win.

Herrell is said to win the race with around 51 percent of the vote.
