Kellyanne Hints the White House Will Soon Take Action Against Leakers

White House Counselor Kellyanne Conway expects personnel changes in light of yet another round of leaks.

If you serve at the pleasure of the president, you should be, at the very least, "competent" and "loyal," Conway said on "Fox & Friends" Tuesday morning.

The latest leak occurred last week after a cabinet meeting, when media got wind of communications aide Kelly Sadler's insensitive joke about Sen. John McCain's (R-AZ) who is suffering from brain cancer. "He's dying anyway," Sadler reportedly said during a discussion about the senator's opposition to CIA director nominee Gina Haspel.

McCain's family was rightfully upset. On "The View," his daughter Meghan McCain said there was no plausible reason why Sadler should still have a job at the White House. The employee has apologized to her, McCain noted, but the family wants a public apology.

McCain also suggested that the problem of White House leaks starts at the head.

“It’s always a sign of a bad campaign, or a bad candidate, or a bad politician when you have rampant leaking problems, because it shows that you don’t have loyalty to the principal,” she added. “You’ve got to look in your own house on that one.”

McCain said her father has "never" had that issue in his own office. She defended her dad's character and history of bipartisanship.

Lawmakers, including Republicans, agree with Ms. McCain that Sadler should apologize. "The person who said that should apologize, and should apologize publicly," Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said Tuesday following a meeting with the president.

Others say President Trump should speak out against his aide's untoward comment. No word yet on whether he will, but it's clear he too is frustrated by the leaks.
