Pelosi: It's a 'Gift to Republicans' to Discuss Impeaching Trump

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) told reporters Thursday that Democrats should not be pushing for President Trump’s impeachment.

"On the political side, I think it's a gift to Republicans to talk about impeachment," Pelosi said during a press briefing.

"I have said over and over again,” she continued, “I don't think we should be talking about impeachment."

“We want to talk about what they’re doing to undermine working families in our country and what we are doing to increase their payrolls and lower their costs,” she emphasized.

Pelosi was responding to a question about remarks made by former Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) earlier this week.

“I've been through an impeachment, and they’re not pleasant,” Reid told MSNBC in an interview. “And I think the less we talk about impeachment, the better off we are as a country.”

Pelosi agreed, saying that impeachment talk, like the kind that is frequently seen from Reps. Maxine Waters (D-CA) and Al Green (D-TX), will not be helpful in the upcoming election.

"This is an election we must win for our children and the fate of the nation,” she said of the upcoming midterms. “This election is not about what's going on in the White House and the rest of that."

Pelosi claimed last week that impeaching Trump "is not a divisive issue in our caucus," noting that about one-third of the Democratic caucus supporting advancing Democratic Rep. Green's articles of impeachment in January.
