LATEST: President Donald Trump Addresses Nation As America Strikes Syria

President Donald J. Trump has announced confirmation that the United States has taken military action by bombing Syria in retaliation against Basher al-Assad’s alleged chemical weapon attack on his own civilians last weekend.

In his address, President Trump told the nation that the strikes were a direct result of Russia's failure to prevent Assad from using chemical weapons.

Earlier in the evening, at approximately 8:30 PM ET, members of Vice President Mike Pence’s press pool began reporting that the Vice President was whisked away back to his hotel abruptly by his motorcade.  Vice President Pence is currently in Peru.

The New York Times then reported that President Trump would be making an announcement on Syria this evening. At the time, sources close to the White House confirmed to multiple outlets that America had decided to strike Syria after much deliberation.

Saagar Enjeti of the Daily Caller reported the United States will be acting alongside the United Kingdom as part of a larger coalition. These reports were confirmed in President Trump's address moments ago.
