California Attorney General Xavier Becerra had a rather intense response for MSNBC’s Andrea Mitchell Monday when she asked him about President Trump calling his former Congressional colleague, Rep. Maxine Waters (D-CA), a “low IQ individual.”
“I think Donald Trump probably said that from about 2,000 miles away from Maxine Waters, because he’s probably too afraid to say it to her face,” Becerra responded.
“Maxine Waters has been one of the greatest champions consumers have ever had, that families have ever had,” he continued, “I suspect that Donald Trump would be afraid to come up to her and actually say something like that to her because Maxine Waters won’t stand for that.”
Becerra condemned President Trump’s “derogatory language.”
“It’s unfortunate he uses that kind of language about someone who’s been a public servant for so many years — someone who’s fought very hard,” he said. “And just because he disagrees with her doesn’t mean he has to use derogatory language.”

He concluded by commenting that Waters wasn’t someone you would want to fight in an alley.
“Again, Maxine can take care of herself,” he said. “I would urge Donald Trump to be careful if he ever finds himself in a dark alley with Maxine Waters.”
Andrea Mitchell laughed at the remark, calling it a “funny image.”
“Did you ever see her? Did you ever see her?” Trump asked the crowd about Waters at a rally Saturday. “‘We will impeach him. We will impeach the president! But he hasn't done anything wrong. It doesn't matter, we will impeach him! She's a low I.Q. individual. You can't help it. She really is."
Waters responded to Trump’s remarks by saying that he’s an "expert at name calling" and has been a "conman all his life."
Waters has long advocated for Trump’s impeachment and came under some scrutiny in October when she said at a gala for LGBT youth that “with this kind of inspiration, I will go and take out Trump tonight.”
She later clarified that she was “talking about impeachment” not doing the President any harm.
