Oof: Quinnipiac Poll Shows That "Idiot" Is The Word People Most Associate With Trump

A new Quinnipiac University national poll shows President Trump at near-record low approval ratings, and also contained a rather unusual section: a word association game. When respondents were asked to name the first word that came to mind when they thought of the president, the top response was "idiot." Second and third place were "incompetent" and "liar." The first positive word, "leader," came in fourth.

Overall, only 106 people responded with a positive word, such as "smart," "good," and "strong." An additional 79 people gave a word with a neutral connotation, such as "businessman" and "American." The rest were negative words, like "bigot" and "racist."

Yikes.

On overall approval ratings, the poll found that 82 percent of Republicans approved of how Trump is handling the presidency, compared to only seven percent of Democrats. Overall, only 36 percent of respondents said that they approved of Trump's presidency. This is his lowest approval rating since the beginning of April and is tied from his first week of the presidency.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, nearly two thirds of Democrats approved of how the media had covered Trump, compared to only eight percent of Republicans.
