Despite recent reports that the FBI will soon begin formal interviews with Hillary Clinton and her top aides over the mishandling of classified materials on the former secretary of state’s private server, Clinton seems completely unfazed.
In an interview on NBC’s “Meet the Press” Sunday, Clinton said she’s “not at all worried” about the investigation.
“No, I'm not,” she said. “Because I don't think anything inappropriate was done. And so I have to let them decide how to resolve their security inquiry, but I'm not at all worried about it.”
She continued: “Back in August, we made clear that I'm happy to answer any questions that anybody might have. And I stand by that.”
Pundits and legal experts disagree over whether Clinton will ultimately be indicted, but her violation of “clear cut rules,” her continued lying about all aspects of the scandal, plus evidence that thousands of her emails were marked as classified including some that were beyond top secret does not bode well for the former secretary of state.
Yet even if the investigation doesn’t lead to an indictment, it has certainly affected her campaign, particularly among voters who value honesty. Just look at Michigan, where Sanders won in large part because of his trustworthiness. Clinton should be worried about this, but apparently isn't.
On Monday Clinton said that she's “absolutely confident” she’ll end up being the Democratic nominee, despite Sanders’ recent winning streak and favorable polling numbers in Wisconsin ahead of the primary there tomorrow.
The 2016 race has been anything but ordinary on both sides of the aisle, so we’ll have to wait and see if Clinton ends up being the Teflon candidate she thinks she is.
