Empire State of Mind: Trump Hits 65% in New York

Now that the Republican presidential election field has narrowed from 16 candidates to three, Donald Trump has reached 65 percent support in the State of New York according to an Emerson College poll, destroying the narrative that he would not be able to gain a majority in the liberal state.

Why is New York important?

The state has 95 delegates that are divided proportionally but Trump could take most of the share because of poor polling from John Kasich and Ted Cruz at one percent and 12 percent respectively.  Also, New York has the second most delegates at stake for the rest of this campaign season outside of California with 172.

In a direct matchup between Cruz and Trump, Trump still dominates 69 percent to 25 percent.
