Conservative Speakers Launch Crowdfunding Campaign to Spite UNC Student Congress

In response to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill refusing to grant enough funding to the College Republicans to bring conservative speakers Ann McIlhinney and Katie Pavlich to campus, a crowdfunding Indiegogo campaign has been launched to raise the $6,000 needed to host the events.

McIlhinney, a documentary filmmaker and investigative reporter, and Pavlich, a New York Times best-selling author, Fox News Contributor, and News Editor of Townhall.com, were deemed by the members of the Student Congress as being “non-intellectual” and having “no value.”

McIlhinney is no stranger to crowdfunding. Her latest film, FrackNation, was produced through a Kickstarter campaign and raised $212,265 by more than 3,000 backers.

Although UNC’s Student Congress decided against fully funding the activities of the College Republicans, they provided full funding to various left-leaning, feminist, and anarchist groups. The Student Congress has more than $90,000 in reserve funds, which are supplied by mandatory student activity fees.
