Well, it looks like there is a going to be quite a close call in Kentucky in 2014. Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell is facing a tough race against Democrat Alison Lundergan Grimes. In a new poll out this week, the two are practically tied at the time.
The survey (although done by a Democratic firm) gives the Democrat a one point lead over McConnell. This is within the poll’s margin of error. So basically what we can deduce from this poll is that there is a lot of work to still be done by both of these campaigns.
With the election over a year away, there is still a lot of time for things to change for these candidates. Just last week a Republican poll showed McConnell 8 points ahead of Grimes. With these types of results it seems pretty clear that the voters have yet to make up their minds, and that we also need some more unbiased polling to really get an idea of where the voters stand.
But the survey also found that McConnell has a 51 percent disapproval rating. This is something that McConnell will obviously be thinking about over the next year when it comes to legislating. With some very controversial votes coming up, McConnell will not only have to think about what is best for his constituents, but how his choices will affect this election.
Grimes will need to now hone in on some of the senator’s vulnerabilities and try to use these surveys as support for her campaign. Until we get closer to the election, these polls are going to try and navigate where the campaigns go. This seat is still very much up for grabs!
