Oops: Democratic Representative Mixes Up Sandy Hook and Hurricane Sandy

Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee (D-TX) represents Houston in her congressional district; so you would think that she would, you know, actually know what she’s talking abut concerning Hurricane relief efforts. Sadly, it was history repeating itself when the Texas representative confused Hurricane Sandy and the tragic Sandy Hook shooting while being interviewed by CNN’s Alisyn Camerota yesterday. The CNN host also brought up why Lee didn’t vote for H.R. 152, an appropriations bill, which the congresswoman replied by saying that she voted to support the Sandy Hook victims (via Washington Free Beacon):

Lee called the storm Sandy Hook —the name of a Connecticut elementary school where 20 children and six teachers were killed in 2012—at least four times, prompting corrections from the hosts of CNN's "New Day." Lee was in a Houston shelter for those affected by Hurricane Harvey, when Alisyn Camerota asked about her votes on Hurricane Sandy relief, and Lee said she did help "Sandy Hook victims."

"As I said, I voted on legislation to help the Sandy Hook victims," Lee replied to Camerota's question.

"Superstorm Sandy," Camerota interjected.

"Sandy super storm," Lee immediately said, before making the same mistake seconds later.

"The Sandy Hook vote took many times and my vote was for the maximum amount of money," Lee said in the course of answering.

Well, this trip up is probably not as bad as when she said the U.S. Constitution is 400 years old
