The Atlantic's Molly Ball: When It Comes To Democrats Retaking The House, Don't Listen To Nancy Pelosi

When it comes to House predictions, The Atlantic’s Molly Ball is pretty clear who to not really take all that seriously: House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi. Ball was on CNN’s Inside Politics Friday, where the topic of the day was whether the GOP put their House majority at risk by passing the American Health Care Act. A bill that doesn’t have a shot in the Senate, which is drafting a separate health care bill, but was passed nonetheless. Democrats taunted Republicans with “na na na na hey hey hey goodbye” as they left the chamber after Thursday's vote since they feel this is the death knell for their majority. John King noted how Democrats had a sizable majority in 2008-09, which was destroyed in the 2010 midterms over Obamacare. In that Tea Party wave, 63 House Democrats lost their seats.

So, it’s the same, right? No. A lot can happen between now and the 2018 midterms.

“We don’t know, right? I mean, at this point in the 2014 cycle, the shutdown hadn’t even happened and Democrats were sure that was going to be terrible for Republicans and they ended up doing pretty well in 2014. Also, I don’t think we should ever take Nancy Pelosi’s word for what’s going to happen in the House because I recall she predicted Democrats were going to take back the house in 2012, in 2014 and 2016, so she always makes that prediction,” said Ball.

Also, yes, it’s Pelosi’s job to give the rosy picture, but what she said to ABC News’ Jon Karl was just detached from reality.
