Live Blogging the Opening Day Convention

For the first time all convention, the crowd has come alive.  First Lady Laura Bush stepped up to the podium and received a tremendous round of applause.  Now it feels like a convention!

... Next, the lights dim and a video is projected with Texas governor Rick Perry, Alabama governor Bob Riley, Florida governor Charlie Crist, and Mississippi governor Haley Barbour talking about hurricane relief.  (They must be saving Bobby Jindal for later).  While a video (even one that is broadcast live) is only moderately intersting to convention attendees, I can see that all the cable networks are covering these interviews -- and it looks very good on TV.

Now First Lady Laura Bush and Cindy McCain are on stage together.  Cindy is calling for everyone watching to go to www.CauseGreater.com and donate to hurricane relief.
