Bush Vetoes Stem Cell Bill

Kudos to Bush for this:

Announcing his veto to a roomful of supporters, Bush said, "If this legislation became law, it would compel American taxpayers for the first time in our history to support the deliberate destruction of human embryos. I made it clear to Congress and to the American people that I will not allow our nation to cross this moral line."

The Dems will try to make hay out of this.  Don't let them.

Bush hasn't banned all research -- only the kind that actively kills existing stem cells. This point cannot be made enough ...  Another little-known fact to bring up is that Bush is the first president who has funded stem cell research ...

Update:  One of the commenters made a vital point that I should have noted.  The veto only applies to federally funded research.  It does not prohibit someone from doing research, it just prohibits them from using our tax dollars to destroy human life ...

Update:  There is a Townhall blog called Eugenics Watch.  If you're interested in this topic, check it out.
