Late last week, Townhall reported how an illegal alien, living in Texas, shot and wounded a police officer. This occurred after police officers responded to a domestic violence call involving the illegal.
The illegal alien, Venezuelan national Jorge Chacon-Gutierrez, 25, died during the shootout with San Antonio Police Department (SAPD) officers. At the time Fox News reported on the incident, it was unclear if he was killed by police officers or if he committed suicide.
According to Fox News, Chacon-Gutierrez was apprehended by Border Patrol after he illegally crossed the southern border into Eagle Pass, Texas in November 2023. He was released into the United States with a court date scheduled for April 2026.

This week, the New York Post reported that Chacon-Gutierrez was set to be deported. However, an immigration judge gave him a “second chance” to stay in the United States.
Reportedly, Chacon-Gutierrez crossed the border with about 600 people. At the time, border agents were processing him for “expedited removal,” but he feared persecution in Venezuela, his home country. An asylum officer rejected his claim and continued the removal process (via NYP):

Chacon-Gutierrez, however, asked to make his claim before an immigration judge, who quickly vacated his order of removal and let his case continue.
The Homeland Security source who spoke to the Post said that this goes to show that the immigration system has “so many loopholes.”
In the shooting, Chacon-Gutierrez reportedly fired the first shots. His girlfriend told police that he assaulted her. When police entered their apartment, Chacon-Gutierrez began shooting. Officers returned fire. A female officer was struck twice. She went to the hospital and underwent surgery.
“The officer is in good spirits but has a long road to recovery ahead of her,” a spokesperson for the San Antonio police told The Post.
