One City Has Become a 'Non-Sanctuary' for Illegal Aliens

Earlier this year, officials in Montgomery County, Maryland said that they would revisit its sanctuary policy and cooperate with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) after several violent crimes involving illegal immigrants plagued the community.

As Townhall covered, ICE stated that no detainers on illegal aliens have been honored in the county in recent years, despite the county claiming that it works with immigration on removing illegals who are suspected of committing violent crimes.

Now, one city on the opposite side of the country has passed a resolution declaring that it is a “non-sanctuary” for illegal aliens.

According to KTVB, the city of Eagle, Idaho officially became a “non-sanctuary” for illegals after a recent city council decision.

"What they're doing is they're sending a message to people who are undocumented here in Idaho, saying they are not welcome in their city limits. and so that has dangerous implications, " Estefania Mondragon, executive director for Poder of Idaho, told KTVB on Friday.

The resolution was reportedly approved June 9. No taxpayer dollars can go towards sustaining illegal aliens.

"I think concerns from the citizens as to what was going on with the... I will not say illegal immigration, but the potential for rumors of migrants coming into the community," Eagle Mayor Brad Pike told KTVB on Friday.

Reportedly, a video that circulated X in May showed illegal aliens in Boise with a charter bus nearby. This, Pike said, may have influenced the resolution.

"I think that generated some concerns with what's happening with our city and our tax dollars." Pike said. "(Eagle citizens) didn't want any of their tax dollars go into illegal immigration from any nationality or any ethnic group."

Pike added that the citizens were being proactive with the resolution.

"How would they know if they're undocumented? Mondragon asked. "Is there a skin color that they're looking at specifically, that flags as someone as undocumented? If that's the case, then that's considered racial profiling."

Dana Biberston, spokesperson for the city of Eagle, told the Idaho Statesman in a phone interview that the declaration was mostly a fiscal policy and that it was the city’s right to make it.

“The citizens of the city of Eagle have expressed a desire for the city to not use any taxpayer resources to fund any services relating to undocumented immigrants,” according to the resolution.
