Chris Wallace and Trump Attorney Face Off Over Whether the President Is Under Investigation

Fox News host Chris Wallace and Jay Sekulow, a member of President Trump’s legal team, went head to head Sunday over whether the president is under investigation by special counsel Robert Mueller.

At first Sekulow denied Trump is under investigation, as the Washington Post reported last week for possible obstruction of justice. Later in the interview, however, he seemed to reverse that claim when he said Trump is “being investigated for taking the action that the attorney general and deputy attorney general recommending him to take.”

“You've now said that he is being investigated," Wallace fired back. "You just said, sir, you just said that he's being investigated."

"Let me be crystal clear so you completely understand, we have not received, nor are we aware of any investigation of the president of the United States. Period," Sekulow replied.

Wallace grilled him on the contradictions in his statements but the lawyer insisted he was being clear Trump was not under investigation.

The Fox News host didn’t let up, again telling Sekulow that he doesn’t know whether Trump is under investigation or not.

"You're right, Chris, I can't read the mind of the special prosecutor," he said.

"Okay, well good, we're in agreement," Wallace responded. "You don't know whether he's under investigation or not."
