Ford Motor Company announced Friday it will invest $300 million in a Michigan plant to build transmissions for fuel-efficient vehicles.

The investment will also “create or keep” 800 jobs for the Livonia Transmission Plant, which will be filled over the course of the next two years.

The upgrades to the facility are part of more than $2.25 billion in investments the company is making in the state this year.

“We remain committed to American manufacturing and investing in our people and facilities,” Joe Hinrichs, Ford president of the Americas, said in a statement. “Even as the industry’s largest employer of hourly workers in the United States and biggest producer of American-made vehicles, we believe it is important to continue investing right here in our home market.”
