Christians in Pakistan Targeted in Easter Attack, More Than 70 Dead

More than 70 people are dead and 300 more were injured after a bomb went off in a crowded park in Pakistan on Sunday.

According to a spokesman for the Taliban group Jamaat-ul-Ahrar, which has sworn allegiance to ISIS, the suicide bomber was targeting Christians, many of whom were there celebrating Easter.

Despite this, most of those killed in the Lahore bombing were Muslims who were also in the park that day. Fourteen of those killed were Christians, while 12 bodies have yet to be identified.

The attack underscored both the precarious position of Pakistan's minorities and the fact that the militants are still capable of staging wide-scale assaults despite a months-long military offensive targeting their hideouts and safe havens in remote tribal areas.

Christians make up less than 2 percent of Pakistan’s population.

Update:

Among those killed were 29 children, as the bomb exploded near a swing set.
