Lindsey Graham Sees No Hope for GOP in 2016 Race

Sen. Lindsey Graham seems to have lost all hope for the GOP’s chances of winning in 2016.

Speaking on MSNBC Thursday, the former presidential candidate said, “We can lose in 2016 and we probably will.”

“Here’s my concern. Trump gets wiped out. Ted makes it competitive, I don’t know if he can beat [Clinton] or not but at least we’ve got a fighting chance,” he continued.

Graham doesn’t seem to have much confidence in his Senate colleague, but that’s hardly surprising given that he once joked about murdering Ted Cruz on the Senate floor, and said choosing between his colleague from Texas and Donald Trump was “like being shot or poisoned. What does it really matter?”

Nevertheless, he ended up throwing his support behind Cruz as a means of stopping Trump, whom he feels will utterly destroy the Republican Party if he becomes the nominee.

“If Trump is the standard-bearer, it’s not about 2016, it’s about losing the heart and soul of the conservative movement. I’m not going to stand behind a guy that gets David Duke’s support.”
