The Debt Clock Officially Starts

One of the GOP's 2012 convention gimmicks is to show just how much the federal government's profligate spending explodes in the course of only a few days. To highlight this, they've got their own version of a debt clock that will track how much federal debt is added during the GOP convention.

Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus officially gaveled in the Republican convention's beginning at 2 p.m. EDT today. He spoke for less than one minute - and when Chairman Priebus gaveled Monday's session to a close, the clock had already hit over $2 million.

The Republicans mean to highlight just how fast debt is being added - and it will be a hefty price over a mere four days of the convention.

Of course, the GOP has their own version of a debt clock, sitting now at just under $16 trillion. It may pass that mark in the next four days.
