Resist: Schumer Says Trump Should Change the Nominee If Gorsuch Fails to Get 60 Votes

Lead Senate Democrat Chuck Schumer is sticking to his promise that Democrats will "vehemently resist" President Donald Trump's campaign promises.

On Friday, Schumer argued that if the Senate does not confirm Supreme Court nominee Neil Gorsuch with at least 60 votes, then President Trump should find another candidate.

"Senate Republicans are acting like if Gorsuch doesn't get 60 votes they have no choice but to change the rules," Schumer said. "That is bunk." In that scenario, Schumer said Trump should produce a more 'mainstream' nominee instead.

Schumer made it clear in January that the Democrats would resist any attempt by President Trump to put together a cabinet.

“President-elect Trump is attempting to fill his rigged cabinet with nominees that would break key campaign promises and have made billions off the industries they’d be tasked with regulating,” he said.  “Any attempt by Republicans to have a series of rushed, truncated hearings before Inauguration Day and before the Congress and public have adequate information on all of them is something Democrats will vehemently resist. If Republicans think they can quickly jam through a whole slate of nominees without a fair hearing process, they’re sorely mistaken.”
