Actor Mark Ruffalo explained why he is backing Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) for president out of the 18 Democrats who are running in the 2020 election. One reason is because he believes Sanders would easily beat President Trump.

Ruffalo citied Sanders' long history of activism and said it bode well for him that most of "The Squad" endorsed him. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN), and Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI) endorsed Sanders with fourth member, Rep. Ayanna Pressley (D-MA), endorsing Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA).

"When I look around, they’re all stealing from [Sanders]. I mean, he led this and he’s been doing this his whole life and I just know that guy is who he says he is," Ruffalo said. "He will fight the fights he says he will fight. I don’t know that about everybody else. He’s the one known quantity and we’re going to need that person for what lays ahead."

“I know that he has the grit and I know he has this huge infrastructure and the young people dig him. And of course a good part of ‘the Squad’ signed off on him. So, I’m very excited about what he’s doing. He’s already pushed the Democrats to the progressive values he already has and he keeps leading in the field even today. And he’ll beat Trump’s a**," he added. "No doubt about it."

But in order to face Trump, Sanders needs to make it through the primary and that has been a challenge for him as he and Warren are vying for much of the same voting block. Sanders is currently in second place with a polling average of 19.5% and Warren in third with an 18% polling average, according to RealClearPolitics
