Democrats Get Skittish, And Republicans Should Double Down

It's long been known that if the economy didn't improve, the Democrats electoral chances would become even more tenuous. Well, it's the end of the summer, and the economy is only getting worse.

Cook says that majorities in the House and Senate are well within the GOP's reach — not guaranteed, but certainly possible. Economists have run numbers saying that Republican gains are likely. Democrats are privately expressing concern.

Others urge caution, however. Reid Wilson at the Hotline gives four good reasons why Republicans shouldn't be doing the happy dance just yet. Others point out that we need to strategize a little bit as part of our happy dance. That's a good idea, and one that the tea party has already put into action. In this political climate, reminding our elected officials that we're going to hold them accountable is just as important as getting them elected.
