The American Parents Coalition (APC) is calling out two of the nation’s largest teachers unions that are desperately trying to use government-run schools to indoctrinate children into leftist ideology.

In a new “The Lookout” report, the APC highlighted the National Education Association (NEA) and American Federation of Teachers (AFT) for pushing educational policies that undermine parental rights while infusing far-leftist ideas into classrooms across the country.

The report accuses the organizations of prioritizing left-wing ideologies over academic success, noting that they “divert resources from classrooms, override parents, and prioritize left-wing ideologies over kids’ learning.”

The unions shell out tens of millions of dollars to left-wing candidates and policy agendas. They have “funnelled more than $43 million to politically-aligned groups since 2022.” Now, they are allocating their resources into lawsuits against the Trump administration over its efforts to restore parental rights and to combat DEI and LGBTQ initiatives.

Not only do the unions openly and loudly prioritize political activism like climate agendas, but, both teachers’ unions have also endorsed left-wing candidates and causes, funneling more than $43 million to politically-aligned groups since 2022.

NEA and AFT also spend heavily on elections and policy influence. One AFT PAC, for example, raised more than $13 million for the 2024 election cycle with more than 98% of contributions going to Democratic candidates, including $1.5 million to federal congressional candidates.

These groups constantly try to erode parental authority while pushing progressivism in schools. In fact, NEA President Becky Pringle referred to the Supreme Court’s ruling in Mahmoud v. Taylor, which empowers parents to opt their children out of inappropriate materials,” as a “threat to democracy.”

The NEA and AFT also champion forcing female athletes to compete against men who identify was trans-women. The NEA claims to “publish explicit resource libraries, training programs, and resolutions that promote racial justice, LGBTQ+ inclusion, and social justice classroom practice,” according to the NEA’s annual meeting notes.

The NEA also urges school districts to defy federal guidelines intended to protect female athletes and students. For example, the NEA endorses biological men competing in women’s sports. The organization also pushes discriminatory ideologies through their “Schools in Transition” guide, which promotes transgender topics in classrooms without parental consent. NEA and AFT publish explicit resource libraries, training programs, and resolutions that promote racial justice, LGBTQ+ inclusion, and social justice classroom practice. These tactics highlight how unions impose ideology, sidelining parents’ role in safeguarding their children.

The unions filed lawsuits to stop the Trump administration from dismantling the Department of Education, framing it as a threat to DEI and LGBTQ+ initiatives.

These efforts have led to declining student performance and a national dissatisfaction with the state of government-run education. The NEA and AFT “pushed to keep schools closed longer…at the expense of children’s mental health and education,” the report read.

There have been some tremendous strides in restoring sanity to the classroom. But there is still more work to be done. The issue, which was catapulted onto the national stage during the COVID-19 pandemic, remains a topic of hot debate.

In many ways, people are finally waking up to the dangers posed by these teachers unions, which appear to want to turn out a new generation of far-leftist activists by influencing their young minds in the classroom. Many schools continue to embrace this initiative.

The Trump administration, along with state governments, have enacted legislation to curtail this nefarious agenda. But at the end of the day, it is up to parents to protect their children. In many cases, schools are still helping students “transition” to the opposite sex without the knowledge or consent of parents. They are still pushing radical theories on race, sexuality, and gender. Meanwhile, students across the country are receiving a substandard education.

As the White House continues its work to return authority over education back to the states, it will become easier for parents to ensure that schools are being used to educate, not to indoctrinate. Now is the time to remain vigilant — because all these bad actors need is for sane Americans to fall into a false sense of security.
