Rick Scott Will Not Be Serving in Trump Administration

A sad day for any big fans of Governor Rick Scott. The Florida governor announced Monday that he plans on serving the remainder of his term as the Sunshine State’s chief executive.

Speaking on CNN’s “The Lead,” Governor Scott explained his decision. “I am not going to go to the White House. I have a great job. I have a little more than two years to go in this job. I've got a lot of good things to get done... I've got a lot of things to do here."

Scott endorsed Trump the day after his home state voted for Trump and Sen. Marco Rubio dropped out – which made the governor a fairly early supporter of the president-elect’s candidacy. Scott went on to be a strong surrogate for Trump’s campaign.

After the Republican nominee’s victory, there was heavy speculation as to what role Scott would play in a Trump administration. Scott made millions in the healthcare business before getting involved in politics. He co-founded what eventually became the largest private for-profit health care company in the United States. He was eyed as a top candidate to become the next Secretary of the Health and Human Services Department.

Even though Scott has turned down an opportunity to serve in the next White House, he may not be ready to end his political career. The Florida governor, speaking at a recent Republican Governor’s Association meeting, would not rule out a potential challenge to Florida Senator Bill Nelson (D). Nelson is up for re-election in 2018. The same year Scott will be ending his gubernatorial term.
