Dr. Ezekiel Emanuel: Obamacare is ‘Good for Business’

Friday morning, Dr. Ezekiel Emanuel stopped by “Morning Joe” on MSNBC to discuss the future of Obamacare. 

Brother to former Obama White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel, Dr. Emanuel also played a central role in the administration. As a doctor of oncology, he served as a former White House advisor for health policy and played a role in constructing the Affordable Care Act.

While on “Morning Joe,” Mark Halperin, co-managing editor of Bloomberg Politics and a senior political analyst for MSNBC, asked Dr. Emanuel, “When you talk to conservative healthcare policy analysts, are they forthright with you? [Do] they say ‘We don’t think universal healthcare coverage is something the federal government should aspire to’?”

Dr. Emanuel responded saying even conservatives are proponents of universal healthcare. Without it, you just have cost shifting, he explained. 

He then revealed this “secret.”

That’s right. Dr. Emanuel insisted that Obamacare has been “good for business.”

“It’s kept health care inflation and their premiums much lower,” he explained. 

Halperin was quick to disagree. 

“No business leader I’ve met thinks that’s true. Not one,” he countered.
