Umm: Where is Kim Jong Un?

The guy hasn’t been seen in public for nearly five weeks, and people are starting to notice.

Most recently, he missed a major commemoration event for his late predecessors, Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Un, which is causing all sorts of speculation about his whereabouts. According to CNN, rumblings of a coup are now part of the discussion, in part because he’s replaced so many of his top lieutenants since inheriting power, including his late uncle, and in part because there's so much dissension in the ranks. (His top two deputies, for example, recently and unexpectedly opened up diplomatic negotiations with South Korea).

There are also growing concerns about his physical wellbeing. His addiction to Swiss cheese and love for alcoholic beverages, for instance, are vices almost certainly contributing to his growing waistline. Some believe his ailing health is directly related to why he's being kept behind closed doors; others say he's already dead.

All of which begs the question: Where on earth is Kim Jong Un?

Maybe he’ll turn up, maybe he won’t. Either way, his absence is hardly going unnoticed.
