Supreme Court Rejects Trump's DACA Challenge

The Supreme Court has rejected the Trump administration's appeal of a federal judge's injunction last month to maintain the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, which provides protections to illegal immigrants who came to America as minors.

While individuals already in the program can reapply, new applications will not be considered.

Last year, Trump announced his intention to end DACA, which was introduced by his predecessor President Obama. But, Trump gave Congress six months to try and make it constitutional. Over the weekend, however, he tweeted that the Democrats have given up trying to solve the issue.

The Supreme Court did not give a specific reason for its ruling. Yet, they expect the appeals court to "proceed expeditiously."

In a brief order, the justices did not explain their reasoning, but said the appeal was “denied without prejudice,” indicating they will maintain an open mind on the underlying legal issue still being considered by a lower court. The high court also said it expects that appeals court to “proceed expeditiously to decide this case.”
