Trump Diversity Coalition CEO Resigns After DACA Decision

President Trump just lost his CEO for the United States Hispanic Chamber of Commerce after his decision to end the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program.

Javier Palomarez, who announced his resignation Tuesday, explained why Attorney General Jeff Sessions's DACA announcement was the last straw.

“The USHCC vehemently opposes the President’s inhumane and economically harmful decision to terminate DACA, which was enacted to shield almost 800,000 individuals who were brought to this country through no fault of their own, and who have already been vetted for criminal backgrounds," he said in a statement.

"This disgraceful action goes against not only the values of this country, but also against the promise of this administration to focus homeland security resources towards individuals who have committed violent crimes and pose a threat to communities across the country."

Palomarez made an economic argument in addition to his moral one. Taking away the work permits of 800,000 people will cost the country $280 billion in lost economic growth over the next decade, he said, citing a CATO Institute study.

He went on to say the president "misled" Dreamers by giving them false hope a few months ago when he told them to "rest easy."

Republican leaders like House Speaker Paul Ryan and Sen. James Lankford have voiced their concerns about ending DACA because it would punish children for their parents' crimes.

Palomarez had a separate issue with the Trump White House last month over former Chief Strategist Steve Bannon. In the aftermath of Trump's botched response to Charlottesville, Palomarez demanded he fire Bannon because of his "alt-right" ties.

Bannon did end up leaving, but as you can see the USHCC now has a new bone to pick.

Palomarez's resignation is effective immediately.
