When he made the media rounds on Sunday, White House Senior Advisor Stephen Miller categorized the appeals court ruling against President Trump's immigration executive order as a "judicial usurpation of power." When discussing the refugee controversy and potential voter fraud in New Hampshire, Miller said there is no room for debate -- the president is "correct 100 percent."
That kind of "dictator"-like rhetoric did not sit well with the anchors on MSNBC's "Morning Joe," judging by the looks on their faces.
"It's so much worse than I thought," host Joe Scarborough said, horrified that the administration is seemingly rejecting any kind of judicial review.
"You really need to go back and read the Constitution," he told Miller. "That made Susan Rice the weekend after Benghazi look smooth."
That's saying a lot. Back in September 2012, when terrorists stormed the U.S. consulate in Benghazi, Rice, Obama's national security advisor, told just about every network that the attack was the spontaneous result of a YouTube video.
The "Morning Joe" guests agreed that Miller offered even worse optics.
"What Stephen Miller said should worry everyone," according to David Ignatius.
The White House, however, seemed pleased with Miller's TV appearances. Trump tweeted that Miller did a "great job" representing him. The president has indicated that instead of appealing the immigration order to the Supreme Court, he will consider writing a brand new law.
