Trump's 'CNN Smackdown' Tweet Is Now His Most Retweeted Ever

President Donald Trump's now-infamous "CNN Smackdown" tweet from Sunday is now his most-ever retweeted post. As of writing, the tweet has been retweeted 340,879 times.

Until this tweet, Trump's most-shared tweet was from the morning of Election Day. In the early hours of the morning, Trump tweeted "TODAY WE MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!" That tweet received just over 339,000 retweets.

After his victory on Election Day, Trump's tweet saying that America will "come together as never before" also received over 200,000 retweets. Typically, tweets from the @RealDonaldTrump account receive fewer than 50,000 retweets.

Trump received heavy criticism from both sides of the aisle for the "CNN Smackdown" tweet, with many people calling it unprofessional and un-presidential behavior. The creator of the video featured in the tweet has been identified by CNN as a male, middle-aged Redditor in what was seen by some as a bizarre witch hunt. CNN did not reveal the full identity of the creator, and later issued a statement denying claims (in its own article) that there was a "deal" made to protect the person's identity contingent on an apology and a promise to not engage in such behavior again.

Trump is the first president to actively use both a personal Twitter and the governmental @POTUS account for the full duration of his presidency. Twitter was still a relatively new social network during the early years of the Obama administration, and the @POTUS account was not created until 2015. Needless to say, it will be interesting to see if Trump's frequent use of Twitter sets a precedent for future presidencies.
